It's also where we had breakfast the following morning. It was the highlight of the trip. The reception was held in a different building that was also very nice, but didn't have the same views. It didn't matter much - the sun sets early these days so there was nothing to see. The cocktail hour featured pass horderves including a lobster shooter and steak with blue cheese dipping sauce. No complaints here. The salad and bread were nothing special, but I had the salmon for dinner and it's one of the best pieces of fish I've ever had. I highly recommend it. The cake was pretty good too. We had our choice of three types, and of course, I tried all three. Chocolate was my favorite. (lemon was my least favorite, with chocolate mousse being second). Overall, the food was good. Another positive was the bowling alley. If you go with a group (eg Wedding party) you can reserve all 8 lanes. We had fun for 3 hours. It included music, finger food and a cash bar. I also enjoyed the hiking trails, though I have one gripe - they should be rated (beginner, intermediate, etc.) We hiked a trail to the lake and my blind, 80-year old uncle had a tough time. This trails had hills, rocks, roots and deep puddles. I would consider this intermediate. At least one other trail looked like a x-country ski trail (just grass) and was much easier (it would be a beginner trail!) Overall, the staff were polite and friendly. During our 3 day stay, we encountered only one rude person, and she was the check-in person (in other words, the first person we met). I forget her name, but long story short we wanted to know if we should grab ice from the machine or whether there was some in the cabin and she rudely replied "Well, how should I know what's in the cabin!" Um, OK crabby lady... but she was the exception, thankfully. Actually, a highlight regarding service was when my cousins locked themselves out of their cabin and a staffer from the reception went to get them a new key so they wouldn't have to leave! Excellent job! As far as the cabins go, they are nicely appointed and plenty warm (We went on a chilly November weekend). Our only complaints were a lack of seating in the living room (could have used a sofa or another chair when entertaining) and the very hard mattresses. Also, the beds are queens, so understand that. My parents ended up ordering a cot because the bed was too small (no big deal, only $20 a night). Also, the housekeeping does not really clean the cabin. They don't do dishes or make the bed during your stay. They will drop off TP and fresh towels. This didn't bother me much, but it was a surprise. One last note on the cabins - the last sign for cabins 40-106 is insufficient in the dark. The sign says take a left by the Athena U building, but really, it's a hard left up a hill (almost a U-turn) and it's easy to miss. You could end up down an alley by a dumpster which several of us did. Lastly, I will say that though I enjoyed my time here, for better or worse, it felt like we were in the middle of nowhere. (some people might enjoy this). I lovingly referred to Northport as East Bumf***, Maine. It's about 4hrs from Boston with traffic. For some reason, my cell service didn't work, though others with AT&T had fine service all weekend. Northport doesn't have much going on, nor does Lincolnville (I did visit the one pub, Whale's Tooth, and it is very dated and caters mostly to locals in the off-season). Camden is 15 min away and does offer plenty of restaurants and shops. We went here several times. Overall, it was a lovely wedding and fun to see my relatives. Not sure I'll ever be back but some recommendations nonetheless: Think about adding a little store where people can buy essentials and maybe a six-pack of beer; perhaps add a pub; I heard the frisbee disc golf course is non-existent and this could be fun; throw in a mini-golf course while your add it - really anything to make it feel like an all-inclusive resort so you don't really have to leave if you don't want to.

Since we were only in town for a night, we stayed in a double-queen room instead of a full suite. We had our own separate entrance to the room from our own private patio area, which made it feel like we were entering a vacation home. Every detail in the room was luxurious. From the Bose stereo playing jazz, to the fireplace, to the ornate furniture, to THE most comfortable bed and pillows, to the hardwood hallway leading to the large bathroom with light dimmers. In the morning, they set-up a wonderful breakfast in-room for us: spinach-feta frittata, spring salad, fruit salad, blueberry-lemon pound cake, OJ, and coffee. Having to check out and leave really sucked. Additional info: Must book weeks in advance, as they only have 8 rooms. I'll start with the food: I am a food snob. Not a foodie.. a SNOB. When I cook at home, I use the highest quality ingredients and flavor matters. You'll never see me rave about food that contains any pre-made or processed ingredients. Restaurants are a low-profit business and typically cut corners to watch profits. So, it's rare to find a restaurant that takes obvious pride in their food and DELIVERS on that pride. The Homeport Tavern is a gem! We ordered the French onion soup and calamari appetizers and the Tavern burgers. The calamari was hand breaded and fresh, not from frozen. So delicious. The soup was the best French onion soup we've ever had - did I taste a hint of Jamaican all-spice? This tavern isn't afraid to use expensive spices to achieve ultimate taste. The burgers were to die for - incredibly fresh tasting grass fed angus, cooked to a perfect medium rare (most places can't seem to cook a proper medium rare, but the Tavern nailed it). The crispy fried piece of pork belly atop the burger was amazing - cut thick and seared at a high heat for a delightful texture and flavor. The coleslaw, obviously fresh and homemade with a poppy seed in-house dressing, was a nice palette cleanser between divine burger bites. Topping this all off is the best selection of draft beers we've seen in a while! Our server was perfect in every way. She was attentive, knowledgeable, accommodating, friendly, and professional. Top notch. Now let's get to the atmosphere. The Tavern is an adorable old Maine mixed with rustic old Irish charm type of architecture. We could hear Gaelic pub music - think minstrel - before walking in. When we entered, we saw an Irish folk band of about 6 musicians playing gleefully, which, along with the old Irish pub atmosphere, truly made us feel as if we're were transported to a time and place in folklore. There are a limited amount of spaces in front with zero room to maneuver your car to fit in a space. There is a public lot right next door for a fee and hopefully you'll get a space. We had noisy neighbors who we could hear using the hairdryer at 6:42am, and shouting down the hall and slamming their door at 7:30am. At 10:45pm there were sounds like chairs being dragged over hardwood for about 30 minutes. They do give you an opportunity to order breakfast that is delivered to your room and a time you specify. However, both days I had rancid milk for my coffee. I wrote a note to the staff after the first morning, and they served spoiled milk to me again on the second morning!! The food was also vastly under seasoned. I ordered the quinoa bowl both days and got two totally different dishes. And, my wife's potatoes were completely burnt. So for the money we spent on the room, I cannot recommend this place due to parking, noise, and food quality.

This made it particularly difficult when we needed something - I sat across from the desk for 15 minutes at one point - but that's not enough to warrant a negative review. In fact, I waited this morning to convey this message in person, but the only people in the lobby were customers waiting for help. What does warrant a review is our breakfast foul up. This may sound like a minor issue, however in the world of customer service it absolutely is not. Here's what happened: the hotel provides breakfast in the room. We had two rooms. My daughter mistakenly put my room number on her breakfast card, so they delivered both breakfasts to my room. Only they didn't deliver both COMPLETE breakfasts - they only delivered a portion of the breakfasts. When we inquired about the mixup, we were shown our cards - no apology, only a hint of "here's where the fault lies, and it's with you." However, no one bothered to ask us before delivering an incomplete breakfast as to whether this was actually what we wanted (and bear in mind, this is not a big hotel). After that, there were a series of further mixups before staff actually sorted things out and got complete breakfasts to our rooms. I don't have a big problem with the mixup. I do have a problem with the reaction and the confused resolution. However, the blame here is not on the staff: it's on ownership. It's very clear that at critical points of the day, the hotel has a real staffing issue. It's also clear that ownership hasn't adequately trained staff on "Customer Service 101." The poor worker was clearly frazzled and could use some training and some help. As a result, this hotel did not earn the premium it charges.
