We were promised that the foundation would be completed in roughly four/five weeks and it took four months (in all fairness, approximately two/three weeks were not Allscapes' fault). We never made it to the flatwork with the Allscapes team and we would not recommend hiring them. To summarize the biggest issues: During the foundation process, the piers were not placed at the right elevation, the setting of the rebar in the piers was incorrect, the wrong rebar configuration was used in the beam wall construction, the top of the foundation wall was not level and the retaining wall was placed in the wrong spot. We failed every single engineer inspection on the foundation build and correcting mistakes caused delays and additional cost. We ended up hiring other contractors to fix the issues caused by Allscapes as they did not respond to phone calls or text messages for a few weeks. The last time we saw Allscapes was when Orlando's team delivered and spread the road base for the garage floor and the driveway but did not compact it as promised. We paid for 95 tons of road base and additional black granite rock but we only received a little less than 60 tons of road base and no black granite rock at all. When we approached Orlando about a refund, he turned angry and said we can litigate the situation if we want. Therefore, we would not recommend this contractor.

We purchased a home in late December 2021 and have been gradually renovating the various rooms so…read morethat it's a bit more updated and more our aesthetic. One of our biggest projects to tackle was the fireplace. We envisioned not only keeping it wood burning but making the room feel less like a cave and more bright, cozy and welcoming. We contacted several fireplace vendors and found one that helped with the pieces, but for our actual project we were told "you need a mason." So to the search engines we went. After talking and meeting with a few and getting some quotes, we chose to go with Adkins Masonry and are glad we did. From the beginning, Tommy was fantastic to work with. It's clear through conversation that he's passionate about what he does, and equally clear that he's very talented after looking though his portfolio. In the grand scheme of things, our project was pretty minor compared to a lot of jobs he does, but he treated us as if ours was the most important one whenever we met or discussed it. It was about a year in the making. We had an initial meeting to suss out our vision and come up with a plan. Then my partner and I took our sweet time to make sure we found the right natural stone for the look we were going for. We then started the demo, which was done incrementally as our project evolved over time. It took a while for the stone and hearth to come in, but once it arrived, Tommy was able to really get going. Since we were keeping it wood burning, and since Tommy is a mason, we ended up using brick rather than wood to frame it out which helped insulate it and make it safer. He also placed insulation over the vent, which did not exist on the original, to help protect the electrical and cable wires that ran behind it. We debated putting the TV over the mantel vs off to the side, and we ended up running power for both options to future proof it. Once the brick was laid and dried, he and his crew installed the concrete mantel and the giant hearth (which I cannot even begin to tell you how heavy it was). Next, he began to overlay the stone, first mortared into place, and then grouted to finish with the right color. It was really crazy to watch how each step completely transformed the project again and again. We are so happy with the way it turned out. The room still has a ways to go (floors, trim and oh, furniture) but I cannot recommend Tommy and Adkins Masonry highly enough. He was a complete pleasure to work with.

And I called one other company for a second bid. David showed up in time for our appointment, and his explanation of the problem (80 year old mortar in our brick house was falling out). The previous owner had gotten some of it repaired. That mortar was failing, too. I was particularly concerned because one pillar that carries a heavy load was cracked so badly (see photo) that you could see daylight through it from top to bottom. David explained why it had failed, and how the repair work someone had done years ago made matters worse. His bid that was about the same price as the other firm, but his explanation -- and the bid itself -- were so clear that D. Masonry was my obvious choice. He provided me with proof of insurance, too, a request the other company ignored. They lived up to my high expectations. Watching them work, I realized that tuck pointing is a highly skilled craft, practically an art form. They took the time to mix and try a range of mortar colors. With their help, we selected the one they advised. Now that the new mortar has completely dried, I can see it is a perfect color match. The pillar I was so nervous about? They elaborately jacked up and stabilized things, so they could remove the pillar, which they disassembled completely, laying out all the bricks (with all the old mortar removed), so they could put them back exactly as they were, only sturdy now, and good as new. Masonry repairs -- done well -- simply disappear when the work is done, right? As long as I own this house, my gratitude for this job-well-done will live on.

My garage floor was badly damaged, lots of deep cracks. I recently had it mudjacked, lifted in some…read moreplaces 6 inches. Complete Caulking & Restoration was recommended by the concrete company that replaced my driveway & patio. I made the choice to repair the floor instead of replacing it. They came out and sawed out all the cracks, then filled them with waterproof caulking. They also put the caulking around the perimeter of the garage floor and in the joints of the floor. It's not as attractive as a newly poured floor but I'm thinking it saved me $1500 -2000. The job took 2 days, they were on time and cleaned up after themselves. Pros-didn't have to move everything out of the garage. Cons-the dust from the concrete saws.
