I love innovations! While the downside is that you need to book months in advance, I am always pleased with my service. I got a massage by Ryleigh and a facial by Marlayna. I've been to Marlayna multiple times now and she is amazing. She is friendly, gentle on your skin, gives tips on products based on how your skin is, and the facial never disappoints! I will definitely continue to see her when looking for a facial. The massage was great as well- Ryleigh asks you questions about firmness, injury, etc and did an overall great job and had firm pressure which my muscles definitely needed (and maybe one of the best foot massages i've ever had!) The spa is relaxing and everyone is kind right down the the ladies at the front desk. Before you beginand after you finish they offer water and a warm neck pillow that really helped round out the experience. They have calm music playing throughout and dim, warmly lit rooms that really allow you to relax during your services. Freaking amazing. I was so incredibly nervous about this hair cut because 1. only one other person has ever cut my hair that I loved and 2 not a lot of people know how to cut curly hair. But Vanessa was super patience, took the time to listen to what i wanted and what my overall hair goal was and even looked over the styles i pin on Pinterest. She def put my nerves at ease and I am so in love with my hair again. My curls have never looked this amazing! Also, the people at the front are the best humans ever. One greeted me and asked if this was my first time I was doing the Deva Cut and I told him this was my first time and I am so nervous but he was so freakin sweet and put a lot of confidence into Vanessa and her abilities that it def helped relax me. My family and I all started to go to this spa. The first time we went the front desk was extremely rude. The second time I went for a facial the service was great but I was deceived with price. I asked for a classic facial. When I was in the room all relaxed the lady asked me if I would like more lactic acid in my mask to help with hydration. Not thinking Anything of it I said sure whatever you think. I get to the register and its $30.00 More than the facial I had asked for. The lady charged me without telling me it was extra and me thinking it was just part of the facial. My stylist, Emily, started working here about a year ago and I followed her from the previous salon because she is the best stylist I've ever gone to, hands down. I recently went in to have my hair done after neglecting it for almost a year (I cut it for Locks of Love last fall, so I've just been letting it grow) and we jumped right back into the rapport we've had for years. She did an excellent job layering, thinning and cutting it just right so that my normally thick and curly but impossible to manage hair has been wash and go, without losing almost any length. She's a genius, I'm telling you. I also decided to have my eyebrows waxed for the first time and it was worth every penny. Amy was quick, polite, gentle and made pleasant conversation while she worked, distracting me from the process which is, honestly, a somewhat barbaric ritual. :) My eyebrows are perfect now, better than I could do myself, and I will be going back again rather than tend them with tweezers at home. They also have a comprehensive day spa menu of offerings - massage, facials, manicure and pedicure, masques and scrubs and skin treatments - as well as lots of very appealing looking packages for half- or full-day pampering. I booked a massage here after hearing about this place from a friend. The spa was nice and had a lot of cool products for sale. I was definitely thinking of purchasing something after my massage. But after my massage I could not wait to get out of there! Even though I am somewhat of a wimp, I can handle some pain. But when I told my therapist about the knots I had under my shoulder blades she suggested some technique where you basically pinch the knot until it releases. I thought "how bad can it be?" Well all I could think of for the remainder of the massage was "when will the torture end?!" So basically, this is not somewhere I will go back to - for a massage anyway. Yes, some of the knots were gone, but there are less painful ways to work out knots. read more

WORST EYEBROW SERVICE EVER and I've been getting my eyebrows waxed for 15 years with no issue elsewhere before. Please Please DO NOT get your eyebrows done by Gabrielle Baker, she has 0 experience and I really hope they rethink her employment there. All I asked for was a trim & a touch up. She took off half of my eyebrow & made the other one sickly thin looking. I was so upset when I saw how bad my previously nicely shaped brows looked after, I cried right in the middle of the salon. The front desk agreed my eyebrows were a mess, comped me & had their makeup artist redraw parts of my eyebrow on. However, the more concerning issue is why they have an "esthetician" employed on staff that DOES NOT KNOW HOW TO WAX EYEBROWS. The eyebrow service I had here was something you'd see from a beauty school student only a few days into training. So disturbing. DON'T GO HERE FOR BROWS, GABRIELLE IS CLEARLY UNTRAINED. read more

Every time I go there, the people at the front desk are not friendly or welcoming. Instead, they are cold and condescending. I receive the same poor attitude when I call. I got a massage. i was not asked if I had any injuries or places on my body where I didn't want to massaged. Also, the place was loud and not whatsoever relaxing. It is definitely not a spa; it's a slain that gives massages. The pedicurists do a good job (I've had better elsewhere), and they are nice. The facility is clean. If the front desk staff were more welcoming and attentive, I'd given the place a much higher rating. read more

2015 Update: I'm updating this review from the 3 stars I gave it in 2009 to now 5 stars in 2015. I've been going here since I left my original review and actually grew to love it. I've found a couple of massage therapists here I love, an esthetician I love (Jess) and have been really happy with the nail staff too. Everyone is really friendly and they work hard to make you feel comfortable and relaxed. This place is hopping! The massage was on the night of a snowstorm but the parking lot was full. The huge building houses both a spa and a salon and there are nice locker rooms for you to change in. The massage was ok. The massage therapist I saw was good about asking me if I needed more or less pressure but wasn't really consistent in taking and using the feedback to adjust. Sometimes it felt really good, other times she was kind of rough on me, especially my lower legs. Ouch! Granted, I was pretty relaxed afterwards (she spent a ton of time working on some serious shoulder knots I have from a zillion years of waitressing) so obviously what she was doing helped but I don't think I'd ask for the same therapist again. They do seem to have several therapists on staff though so I will go back and try another therapist's style. The mani / pedi was good. She did a great job (no pain! ha!) and I actually booked another appointment with her when I left that night. The second time was great too. I'll go back to see Cheryl again. The front desk staff is friendly and the atmosphere is warm and relaxing (the salon isn't relaxing-it's loud, but the rest of the spa is separated in another part of the building). After being escorted the the locker rooms, you are given a robe and flip flops to change into and then escorted to a seating area upstairs (which could use some updating-stencil borders are a little 1991) and given a hot neck wrap and tea to sip while you wait. Honestly, I had some concerns after reading some of the other reviews but decided to go anyway. I called and scheduled a same day express massage. The lady on the phone was upbeat and pleasant. I just left Innovations and could not be more impressed! The front desk staff was pleasant and professional, they promptly offered me a robe and slippers, asked if I would like refreshments and seemed genuinely eager to please. I started to relax, but that wasn't the highlight of my experience. The best part of the trip was the massage therapist, Janine. She was awesome! She listened to my needs and gave me advice on managing stress. The most amazing thing was she made me feel very at home and relaxed. Innovations is the best spa in area! They are a full service spa....hair nails, facials, waxings and massages. I almost forgot a vichy shower room for salt scrubs and wraps. I have had wonderful massages here. I think they have 5 or 6 masseuses that each have their own special touch. I had a vichy and a deep tissue massage and I thought i had died and gone to heaven! A vichy shower is like getting massaged with warm water. I had a salt scrub and then the vichy shower and my skin felt like velvet! I have also have had my hair and toes done and it was pleasurable, professional and relaxing experience! I can't wait to go again! read more

I went here with my daughter. The front desk receptionists are rude. No eye contact, monotone voices and an attitude that says "We're so busy we don't really need you." Very friendly at the end when they're taking your money! THEY scheduled my daughters appointment incorrectly so they didn't have time to do her service. Told us we had to come back later when there was more time. The receptionist acted like it was our fault THEY scheduled incorrectly. No apology!!!! No offer of compensation. How about you honor our appointment that we showed up early for and do it without a bad attitude. The estheticians/stylists should know that the front desk is hurting their opportunity for return customers. Too many other salons to choose from so I won't return where I'm treated like an inconvenience. read more

This was my 10th time as a member of a bridal party. NEVER have I had to pay two weeks in advance for a service. The policy is absurd. Not only is not practical (what if I choose to tip my hairdresser 15% or 20%?), it's rude to expect a customer to pay for a service they have not received. When I questioned the policy, the Salon Manager made a weak attempt at "spinning" the policy to say how convenient it is to not have to "worry" about paying for the service the morning of the wedding. Give me a break. This policy is convenient for the salon owners. Not the customers. Payment policy aside, what bothered me most about the salon was that the Salon Manager called the bride a week before the wedding to complain about her unruly bridal party. Several of the bridesmaids expressed concern about the pre-payment policy. Although reluctant, the bridesmaids decided to pay in advance and not tell the bride they were displeased with the salon. Since it was one week before the wedding, the bridesmaids did not wish to upset the bride. Instead, the Salon Manager called and upset the bride! What salon calls the bride to complain about her bridal party??? Again, 10th wedding. Never heard of a Salon Manager calling a nervous bride the week before the wedding to complain about her attendants. Brides beware! It might be worth looking at other salons before you settle on Innovations! read more

Full disclosure, I have never actually stepped foot in this salon, but my experience with the staff on the phone made me uncomfortable enough to avoid it -- even with close to $200 in gift cards!! I did contact the business to give them every chance to change this opinion. Unfortunately, financials, procedures and policies are apparently way more important than any customer. My experience is below... My daughter asked for a day of beauty at a salon so she could have her first professional manicure & pedicure. My husband related this sweet little wish to his mother who decided to give it to us as a Christmas gift! She gifted us each with a classic manicure and classic pedicure certificate from Innovations. We were so excited! About a month after the holiday craziness subsided, I called to make the appointment for our mommy/daughter mani-pedi. It took a while to find a time and date for two at the same time. Our appointment was schedule close to the end of February. As the date approached my daughter came down with some cold and was miserable, so I had to cancel the appointment. When I called to reschedule, it again was booked several weeks out to obtain two slots at the same time. This time the woman asked for my name AND my mother's name. I told her it was with my daughter and she said, "Oh, how old is your daughter?" And when I told her that she was soon to be 8, the woman said that she was unable to schedule her for services as they don't perform these services on children under 12. Huh? Really? So I asked why, and was told that it was salon policy. Well that really cleared up a lot! So now I'm wondering what do I do with these useless certificates?!! I decided I would call back and ask to speak with the owner or manager. The gift certificates went into a folder for me to deal with later. Life got hectic as it tends to do and, frankly, I forgot about it. Recently while cleaning out my desk for tax season, I found the certificates and decided to follow up. I explained to the manager my predicament that this was given to us as a mommy daughter spa gift and asked her if she could make an exception since no one related that policy at the time the certificates were purchased. Or she could help me understand why they have this policy in the first place (was it a safety issue?). She had a very frank and curt manner, not very considerate, which made me quite uncomfortable. She said that the chairs are too big for kids and their tools are not made for children. She told me that the certificates would be honored for any other service, if my daughter wanted a haircut or a massage for example. She did make a point of mentioning how old the certificates were and said that they could be used for any services up to the amount paid, leading me to believe their prices had been raised significantly since the certificates were purchased. After a pause she said she would make an exception and refund them if that's what I wanted. She did add that it would have to be refunded to the card that purchased the gift certificates originally. I did say it was unfortunate that she was unable to accommodate us, to which she rudely retorted that she did accommodate us with other options OR a refund. That response pretty much nailed my decision... Funny thing is that NH has strict regulations requiring businesses to honor gift certificates regardless of when they had been purchased. Further, businesses must refund customers for products or services that don't deliver what was promised. But, I guess if I didn't know that I might possibly consider that she was actually being generous. However, I felt her attitude was rigid, uncompromising and discourteous. Turns out this "family-run business" is only run by the family during the warmer months. During the winter, they spend it vacationing in Florida. I'm guessing this is why the rules are so strict and the prices so high... With a unique policy such as this, at the very least, it would behoove Innovations to add the "policy" of asking every customer if the gift recipient is over 12 prior to finalizing all gift card purchases. read more

I go here for massages and it's been a pleasant experience so far. I've been here probably about 3 times. I will say though, sometimes the front desk girls seem a bit snooty. When I called for a reminder, the nice woman told me about my rewards that I have and to spend them soon or they expire. So when I went in for next appointment the girl at the desk didn't say anything about them. I asked her about them and she was just like yea, you have points. They just say hi to you when you walk in then talked with each other. I think the greeting process could be slightly better. When you go also to get a massage, I was never asked if I have ever been here. They don't tell you were the bathroom is, when you change into a rob, and it's odd there isn't a bathroom in there where you change. I wasn't told either about where to leave my clothes or to take the locker key. If it was my first massage ever, I think I would have been lost. The massage itself wasn't bad. The upstairs is nice and I was given a heating pad and asked if I wanted water. One time there was a meeting going on in one of the rooms and those people came out talking out loud from one room to another, but it was for a few seconds. The masseur each time that I have gone were really good and I would go here again to see one of them. I have never tried any other services here. read more

As a brand new customer, I tried to book a full spa day for myself and a couple of friends. After a very frustrating phone call with the receptionist, I gave up. Months later, my sister called to book a pedicure for her birthday. The day before the appointment, I called to see if I could book a pedicure with her. They then told me that they didn't even have my sister's appointment in the schedule! They informed me that they realized days before they had double booked appointments (including my sister's) and couldn't figure out whom to call about the mix up. So if it weren't for my spur of the moment phone call to add a service, my sister would have shown up on her birthday with the disappointment of getting turned away. Needless to say we were very angry and ready to give up with Innovations. However, after speaking with the manager, they offered to comp my sister and me a pedicure a week later and we accepted. We even decided to book another pedicure appointment 6 weeks later. When we showed up for our appointments last night, they refused to let us in because my 8 year old son was with us. The manager let me know that it's their policy that no kid under 12 is allowed, although we were never informed about that in advance. While telling me that they have made exceptions before, they refused to offer that to us and turned us away. After anxiously waiting 6 weeks for that appointment and looking forward to this time with my sister, we were furious to have to walk out. Despite hearing many bad reviews about Innovations in the past, and having our own negative experiences, we were still trying to give them a chance. Never again! I've only been here to get my eyebrows waxed when traveling for work, but I must say it was a great experience. They take you upstairs and you lay on a bed that has a heated blanket (best part)!! I was so relaxed and warm, I didnt want to get up when she was all done. Eyebrows turned out great too. I normally don't treat myself to things like this, but last Sunday I used a gift card for a Classic mani and pedi. It was difficult getting an appointment that worked for me because they are booked up on week nights, which is the best time for my schedule. I was pleasantly surprised when I heard they offered Sunday appointments. The front desk personnel seemed friendly enough when I arrived. She had me roll up my pants, put on a robe, offered me a drink, and gave me a hot neck warmer while I waited for my nail technician. The rest of my experience was fantastic. I had Sarah (I think her last initial was M?). First, normally conversation does not come easy to me. Yet, right away, I felt comfortable with her and we had some nice small talk. She did a perfect job on my nails. From shaping to polish, when I say perfect, I mean perfect. I cannot find a flaw. It's been almost four days and still no sign of a chip. Then she did my pedicure. She was wonderful. Just a very soothing personality and she had great chemistry with another technician who was working on a different customer. They helped each other out with little favors and it was all just very harmonious. It was such a nice atmosphere to be in. My toes came out perfect as well. No chips on them yet either. I can't say enough good things about Sarah. If I had one critique it would be to offer more paint colors, other than that, it was completely awesome. read more

I have never written a review of a business before. However I was so blown away by the sheer rudeness of the front desk person that I feel compelled to write a review. I made an appointment to have my hair cut, only a haircut, nothing else. I have a 3 year old girl and a 5 year old boy. I have always brought them with me to my hair appointments (not here this was my first time to innovations). In the past my children have always just sat in the waiting area and I put a movie on for them on my iPad. I make sure that the stylists chair is in view so I can keep an eye on them. They truly do great, are very well behaved, and have never been a disturbance or a problem. When the front desk lady saw that I had my children with me she was very rude and had a terrible attitude towards me. She said it was against their policy to allow children under 12 to wait. When I told her I did it all the time and that they were great she kept saying "I find that hard to believe" like I was lying about them being well behaved, or maybe she couldn't believe that other salons would be more accommodating and allow me to have my children with me. She said "I find that hard to believe" at least 3 times. So it's their policy, fine. If she had not been rude to me and looked at my children like were 2 piles of dog poop I would not be writing this right now. Innovations I suggest you train your staff on customer service and how to talk to and treat people. If she had handled the situation differently, and spoken to me in a different manner, I probably would have walked out of there with a re-scheduled appointment for when my husband could have watched our children. However, due to the way I was spoken to and treated I will never step foot in there again. read more

Had my Express Massage this afternoon at Innovations Spa in Merrimack, NH. The ladies at the front desk were very welcoming, and I was immediately shown where to change into a comfy robe and flip flops. There were locking lockers, and a bathroom up and downstairs. I was offered water or herbal tea, and given a warm neck wrap to help me relax while I filled out a general health questionnaire, which included my goal for the visit. The facility was clean and comfortable, and other clients seemed to be enjoying the pampering. My masseuse, Lisa, was very caring and accommodating. She gave me a wonderful massage, and then I was again offered water or tea and a snack (fruit, small muffin, or trail mix). I was encouraged to relax and stay as long as I liked. I'll look forward to my next visit. The Spa also offers a hair and nail salon, and waxing services. read more

My family went to Innovations Salon as an excited and happy bridal party and most left upset by the experience. We wanted to be together as we got ready for a beautiful day. For me it was about the experience of wedding day excitement and happiness and everyone being together. Unfortunately, the experience was tainted. From the kurt salon receptionist who was abrupt and unwelcoming to the salon policy requiring payment in advance for predicted services, to having us arrive an hour before our appointment to sit in a basement room and wait. We had to bring our own beverages and snacks. There wasn't even a pitcher of water offered to a bridal party about to spend almost two thousand dollars on hair services. It was my first time here and it was wonderful. I normally have really bad experiences with different hair dressers in the area. My hair because of my last hair dresser was and orangey brown with thick thick highlights, and I died over it with a dark brown to get it out. The color came out a very dark black and now I have been trying to grow it out. I went to Jen and told her how I just want to lighten the black back to my regular brown and match my roots. She did exactly what I asked as best as she could and it's not my natural color just yet but we are working towards it. She was super careful with my hair and kept me away from anything that would damage it. She also made it as cheap as possible for me and I'm so grateful! Im super happy I found a place that has hairdressers that know what they are doing. My haircut feels amazing and looks perfect. Definitely recommend!! read more
