Yesterday was my first visit or to Aidan James. I walked in for my appointment and the front desk personnel instructed me to use their complimentary hand sanitzer and my temperature was taken. The salon was immaculately clean, and it's very evident that the staff has taken the Covid sanitation policies very seriously. My hair stylist was Shannon. I'm looking to go lighter with my hair in stages, andd she provides a thorough color consultation. Before mixing the color, she also double confirmed the choice by using the swatches before proceeding with the color application. Shannon applied my color meticulously! I have very dark hair, and there was zero color staining on my forehead, ears, or neck. Shannon has a very pleasant personality. She was very down to earth and easy to talk to. My color came out perfect! Upon checkout, the desk personnel asked if I was satisfied with the service. They were equally as pleasant and kind as Shannon. Overall, I couldn't be happier. I am ever impressed with the service and professionalism from Aidan James. Walk in the door and you are always welcomed with at least one smile and friendly face. The front desk personnel (Yes...Karen that means you!) are sure to welcome you by name, take your jacket and offer you a beverage. Proceed over to the comfy waiting area for the luxury of service to begin. I have been a regular of Lisa S.'s for over 15 years. She is one of the best, if not the best nail technician in the area. Perfectionism should be her middle name. Once I sit in her chair I am sure to have a few laughs (okay....ALOT of laughs), a delicious drink (she should be a bartender) and pampering (she gives the best massages with your pedicure). I never question her choice of color (I make her choose my color at every visit), products (she has so many colors for her products you could probably have a new color every week for a year), service (NEVER misses and appointments and is ALWAYS on time) or cleanliness (I have seen her clean....). Did I tell you that I book all my appointments 1 year in advance? Another aspect, I like about Aidan James is the "one stop shopping" model. I can grab all kinds of facial and hair products as well as nice boutique style items. Don't need products but need another service? Aidan James is great about that too! There have been many times when a service might be on special (they have lots of them) and I decide last minute to give it a try. They are great about finding times that work! I am a huge fan of Aidan James because of Lisa S., but especially enjoy the fact that all the staff makes you feel welcome (even those who don't provide a service for you). I hate to put a damper on every other reviewer's enthsiasm, but I'm not a fan. I searched out Aidan James specifically because of its great reviews and yearly awards. However, my experience didn't measure up to my expectations. Looks as though from the reviews here on Yelp, I should have asked for Derek. My stylist was pleasant and professional (won't name them in hopes it was just me or an off-day for them). I took in 2 photos and tried to be as specific as I could about what I liked and didn't like. My stylist seemed to be listening and offered feedback. But, alas, in the end, I have a rather average haircut that is by no means stellar. I could have gotten (and have many times) the same average haircut in any mall salon. It doesn't lay particulary well and I wouldn't get any compliments for this drab cut/style. Furthermore, I don't like the products at all of the Arrojo line. I got the shampoo, conditioner and volume foam. I feel as though my hair is limp and lifeless and that's after even doing without the conditioner. Oh, just an update. I later learned that they had sold me 2 conditioners and no shampoo so everytime I reached for the shampoo, it said "conditioner" and I just "naturally" assumed that the "other" must be shampoo. There are things I love about this place and some other things that I'm less crazy about. I tried here after reading good reviews online and seeing that they had won multiple awards. I wanted to develop a relationship with a stylist, but not spend loads of money getting my fairly short hair maintained regularly. I asked for a junior stylist or new talent. They hooked me up with John, who gave me an AMAZING haircut. Loved it. When I called to schedule my next appointment about 4 weeks later, I found out he was no longer there. Sad, sad, sad. But they reassured me that Erica would do a great job. She did. The next four times I went in. Then she, too, was gone. So they set me up with Maria, who was training under Felix, one of the master stylists. When I got there, I found out that Maria couldn't make it that night, so Felix would cut my hair at the junior stylist rate, which I thought was fair. He did a fantastic job--he is the bob MASTER. I saw Maria a few times, and she's done a great job four times and an ok job twice. The two times that I walked out feeling "meh" my hair still looked really good, but it wasn't quite what I expected, which I am completely willing to admit may have been due to vague communication on my part. My travel schedule at work got nutty and I needed to reschedule and wound up with Stephanie, who did a great job. I felt weird because they told me that Maria wasn't available, but when I got there, she was working. I didn't see her with another client: confusing and a bit awkward. I've found everyone there very friendly and professional. I like that they have evening and weekend hours, although they do change seasonally. read more

The extremely helpful and upbeat person that answered the phone helped me secure an appointment, the next day with Fanny. When I arrived, I was greeted with warmth and kindness. Fanny did a wonderful job consulting before my color and cut. She recognized an issue I had with my previous color and was able to share how she could fix it! The experience was lovely, she was a delight to talk to and she did a wonderful job on my haircut and blow dry. My hair turned out better than I even expected and I made my next appointment on the spot! The whole experience was a delight. The entire staff was fun and SO welcoming. I went here to get my hair done for my graduation. I had previously gotten the underneath of my hair bleached and was ready to have lowlights added to my underneath and highlights added to my brown hair on top so it all matched. My stylist was nice at first but soon seemed annoyed that she had to do my hair. She kept trying to use small toothed combs to comb out my hair (i have medium length thick hair) and ended up ripping the knots out of my hair with it. I politely said she was hurting my head and she didn't respond and kept going. My hair usually takes 2 hours max when getting full highlights and it took her almost 4 hours to complete it. She never added the lowlights so I still had a block of blonde that did not match the rest of my hair. The cut was not straight and I had to go to another salon to get it fixed. She tried over charging me for a color correction, full highlight, cut, and style. I have never gone back and don't plan on going in the future. read more

This salon is incredible. Everyone is extremely knowledgable, friendly, and gets what YOU WANT done to your hair. Very accommodating. They take your coat and offer you wine coffee water, whatever you want. I see terry graham (he is amazing, will 100% be a celebrity colorist one day- he's already on his way...winning awards and placing first in elite hair competitions) and he always gives me the most beautiful color. Not to mention the best hair cuts I have ever had. I am from boston and have been to the newbury street salons- this place looks the part but is BETTER. Terry (and from what I've see of other stylists from being in the chair) are familiarized with all types of coloring. Blonde, brunette, reds, ombré, funky styles and colors, etc....they can do it all! Terry started with me as very dark and took me all the way to blonde! I can't believe this salon is not on yelp yet!!!! Ok so I found this place through word of mouth. My neighbor was going here(still is) and she loves her stylist Derek. The salon/spa is owned by Rachel Aidan and Derek James. I went in for the first time in August and was awed by the appearance of the place and great service. They have since moved from that Main St location to Water St recently to an EVEN BETTER spot. It is very chic and nicely designed at Water St. To get to the stylist, Derek, he transformed my look. I wanted to try a short haircut for the first time in my life. He thought it would work with the shape of my face etc ..basically we sat and talked about my hair and the possibilities. He made me feel very comfortable! He has an incredible amount of passion with what he does and extensive knowledge. The cut and style ended up being exactly what I was looking for. I have been going back for months now and love it everytime. I am checking out their other services these days on top of it. They don't just do hair(cut, color,treatments,extensions,the basics) their other serives are with their sister company named SKIN. Its a spa with the works and a medical cosmetic and laser group. This place is an absolute gem!! I am new to Nashua and needed to find a new stylist. I recently lost 150 lbs and decided to go for a whole new look to go with my new body. After reading Laura W's review of Derek and The Aidan James salon, I decided to book an appointment. The salon is right in downtown Nashua, but on Water St. and it has PARKING, which is key. The salon itself is GORGEOUS. High ceilings with tall windows and lots of sunny light - very welcoming atmosphere. The salon looks like a trendy Newbury St. salon, but with no pompous attitude or catty staff. Everyone there was super-friendly and welcoming from the second I walked in. They took my coat, offered me a drink, gave me a tour of the entire space - all with a smile. Aidan James offers a full range of services - from skin care right down to Botox treatments with licensed medical doctors. They also offer classes - such as blow drying. You can come in with your old tools and products and they'll give you a credit towards new products from the salon -AND- they donate the old products to local women's shelters. Now THAT'S a salon I want to get behind! Now let's talk about Derek and the cut: AMAZING, AMAZING, AMAZING. Derek is adorable - super trendy and knows his stuff. He spent a good deal of time with me talking about what I wanted and he made very nice suggestions about what would look good with my face shape and angles. He took his time and explained all of his techniques so I would understand what he was doing. I brought in a photo and he gave me the exact cut I was looking for, and my hair looks and feels SO MUCH HEALTHIER. I came into the salon on a Saturday at 10am. Was taken in right at my appointment time, which was great. I have blonde highlights in my hair and asked if the hair stylist could brighten them up and put more highlights in. She seemed to think about it a little, match my color, and also ask some advice from the stylist next to her, then we proceeded with it. Instead of foiling she decided to do an "all over color" and brushed into my roots the dye. I was a little nervous about it, since I'm so used to foils but I let her do her thing. After waiting almost 45min for the color to come through we washed and blow dried. It definitely didn't look like what I wanted but I was accepting of it. When I got home from the salon I looked in my mirror and saw that the color wasn't right. Getting a close up look at my hair it just looked really bad. I decided to wash my hair and noticed when I was blow drying that the blonde was an orange/yellow color and the ends of my hair was a totally different color from my roots. It was terrible, I hated it. I called immediately the next morning and left a message. Since they are closed Sunday and Monday, I didn't hear back from anyone till Tuesday. I hated the color so much that I dyed it back to brown, it was really bad. When I received the call back they informed me since I dyed my hair, they can not help me at all. I was shocked. I wasn't going to walk around all day Sunday and all day Monday with three different colors in my hair. After explaining this, the girl on the phone said she would contact her other stylist or manager...not sure. But she promised me a call back later that day. I didn't hear anything back that day. The next day I hear back from the manager to re inform me that they couldn't help me at all. It's disheartening. It's so easy to do the right thing.....I've been there three times before that and never complained, it always came out good. This time was very unfortunate. It left a bad taste in my mouth and I will never be back. The cut looks good though.... read more

Continuously have wonderful, friendly, timely, dependable and relaxing professional service with Lisa Sullivan. I have had numerous manicures and pedicures but nothing beats a service with Lisa. I have been going to Lisa for 10+ years now and never go elsewhere. Her pedicures are amazing and her workmanship is meticulous. The polish is perfect every time. I think of some of the other shops I have been to where the client is not the focus or cleanliness is set aside. This is not the case with Lisa. She gives the client her 100% attention and has very high expectations for the atmosphere. I never worry about the cleanliness. A stress free service is a guarantee with Lisa. I walked in for my regular salon visit with Derek, fed up with the curls and winter combined and walked out feeling great! Derek instantly new how to help - foils, Keratin treatment & touch up cut. I absolutely love the color Derek put together. A team of 4 got me out on time as I had not scheduled a 4 hour appointment, but they accommodated me with open arms. No pretentious behavior, no inconvenience to anyone, everyone was as excited as me to have a new look, there are simply no egos at this upbeat, friendly, 'european' feel salon, you instantly feel 20 years younger just walking into the place. I was walking around their lobby not knowing if they had a waiting area from me to sit as the stylist was behind schedule. Though my hair came out good I wasn't expecting to pay $400 for a balayage when their website says $200. They add on charges that I didn't know about or state on their website. Make sure you talk to the stylist before you have them touch your hair. If you are not willing to spend an arm and a leg I would suggest somewhere else. read more

I have even entrusted Becky with my twins hair. She gives 110% attention to detail and makes you feel like you are her only client that day. Aidan James is SO new and modern. It is the cleanest salon i have ever seen. There waiting area is in the nucleus of the salon. You are able to view all of their stylist in action. Every time i go i am offered complementary wine or Baileys in my coffee! They have a full service spa station. Lisa does amazing signature pedicures & manicures. Every month it is some new concoction she has created. Last month was blueberry and brown sugar pedicures. This month it is pomegranate martini pedicures. So here's the thing - no one is perfect. But it's what we do with our mistakes that really define us. When I heard great things about AJS I booked an appointment. Everyone was incredibly nice, friendly and responsive and seemed very knowledgeable. The price wasn't as scary as you might think if you'd read some of the other reviews here and the salon was a beautiful and had great energy. The employees joked with the clients and each other and got along. I am not one to go get my hair done regularly...or at all typically, so I was finding myself thinking, "I could get used to this!" The one and only thing was, when I left I wasn't totally thrilled with my hair. I nearly did nothing about it, blaming myself for taking a risk when I didn't really know what I was doing but my husband pushed me a little and reminded me that one of the reasons I chose AJS was because of the highly professional and positive way the owner, Rachel Aiden, responded to a client who complained here on Yelp. Long story short I wrote to Rachel and took her through my long, sad hair story. She responded immediately and AJS made it right - no, way MORE than right, and they did it fast. You are never, ever, in a million years going to find a salon (or any professional) that always, every time, gets it perfect. Especially on the first time. Best of luck getting even half the professionals out there, in any industry, to respond with understanding, empathy, unbelievable customer service and an incredibly positive attitude. Rachel and Derek blew me away with how they handled my situation - I had prepared myself for a response apologizing but arguing with me (perhaps subtly, in between the lines) about my actions, who was to fault or to blame and that never occurred or was even insinuated. In fact, when I suggested it, that's when they argued with me. You can't beat that. There's no way they could have made even half the impression that they made on me had it gone perfect at first. I've run a small business and I know first handhow annoying and entitled all of us can be as customers. You have to have incredible patience, caring and amazing customer service skills to handle a situation the way Aiden James Salon did. I LOVE MY HAIR and I will go back - I can't wait. My husband and I have both been extremely happy with the service we have received from Aiden James. I requested a hairstyle that requires minimal care and wasn't expecting much, but Derek, my stylist has consistently given me cute, easy to maintain cuts. So many times other hairdressers have assured me that I will be able to replicate the look at home, but I never can; with Derek, my cut looks even better the next day. Right now, I'm growing out my hair and because of his skillful trims I have not experienced any of that annoying half grown out hair frustration. I'm so grateful we found this salon. I LOVE THIS SALON!!! I've been to a number of Nashua area salons to get my hair cut/colored/styled and was never very happy with the outcome. Then I found Becky. She helped me realize that the problem with my hair is that it's not straight! Fancy that! An introduction to DevaCurl and curly hair maintenance, and now I actually wear my hair down...and it looks great. Becky is also a color genius. She has helped me have fun with my color, and I get compliments all the time, not just for a day or two after seeing her. The biggest reason I have been to so many salons is that I loyally follow the woman who gives the world's best pedicure! Lisa is second to none! I've passed on spa days with the girls on Newbury Street because even the 'elite' salons don't compare to Lisa!!!! The spa pedicure is an hour of pure bliss, tantalizing even the most stressed pair of legs. Yes, even the legs get a massage. Lisa has the 'scent of the month' which is paired with a 'drink of the month'!!! Try and match that in Boston! Lisa is my idea of heaven and she'll quickly become yours, too. I searched online for a salon to try and came across Aidan James Salon. Derek got rave reviews, so I decided to make an appointment and see for myself. Derek is very professional and really knows his trade. I have really thick hair and don't do much with it. I am not kidding when I say I like basic styles and mainly put my hair up and go. The cut Derek gave me was wonderful - no matter how I do my hair - it always falls perfectly. I get compliments wherever I go. I cannot say enough about this salon. I went back a second time, but had a different stylist. The cut was okay - not real thrilled with it. I definitely need to ask for Derek, next time I go! read more

I will start by saying that the haircut that a friend of mine got at Aidan James was absolutely fabulous. The stylist did a wonderful job of coloring and the cut was extremely good. BUT and it is a big but, several weeks after she got her haircut - In the middle of the night on a Sunday, Aidan James disappeared. They just came in with trucks and moved everything out. Ok so maybe that behavior is questionable but not so bad - What is bad is that they left owing their landlord several months of rent - leaving her holding the bag. It is, of course, not the stylists fault, it is the fault of the owners. Neither my friend nor I will ever patronize this shop again - not because of the stylists, but because the owner is dishonest and unscrupulous. read more
