Okemo was my first Vermont ski experience, and it absolutely delivered. I took the Paragon Sports…read morebus up from New York for what I believe was a three-day weekend, skied Saturday and Sunday, maybe squeezed in a half day Monday, and came back that afternoon. It was definitely cold, but we caught beautiful sun and good conditions, so the whole trip felt worth it almost immediately. Jackson Gore was the highlight for me. The day we were there, it was pretty empty, and we were able to lap that area over and over again with no real lift line. There is a particular kind of joy in skiing 10 to 20 uninterrupted laps when the sun is out, the snow is holding up, and nobody is making you fight for space. Compared with the massive resorts out west, Okemo is obviously a different kind of mountain. Still, the terrain volume felt excellent for Vermont, especially because the trails were well kept, accessible, and easy to keep moving through. The whole place felt comfortable without being sleepy, polished without being sterile, and family-friendly without losing the actual fun of skiing. Ludlow and the surrounding area also add a lot to the experience. It has enough Vermont charm and alpine presence to make you feel genuinely away from New York, the tri-state area, or any other Northeast city you might be escaping from for the weekend. I only went once, but I left wanting to come back, bring my kids, and use Okemo as a starting point to explore more of the region.

I came here to ski on a Thursday morning. I was able to easily park in the main parking lot and…read morewalk to the lodge which was within a reasonable distance. Parking was free. From the main lodge are a couple of very short and slow lifts that take you up to areas which give you access to additional lifts. I really liked the variety of runs and that it wasn't overcrowded. I would love to try some of the other sections of the mountain in the future. The terrain park looks fun (if you're into that). My only complaint was how slow most of the lifts are... but that didn't detract much from my overall experience.

For small children there's a separate area inside the clubhouse with toys, tv and play area and outside, a fenced in playground and swingset aside the pool area. For teens, there's mini arcade, movie room, volleyball and basketball. For adults- BBQ set ups ready to use with well appointed bar/kitchen area to make your own or use next to friendly community members. From roaring fires in the winter, to deck loungers or rocking chairs in the summer days, the clubhouse is wonderfully the heart of this community. The people just great too! From the staff that have helped us in dozens of things over the years - to the other owners and guest...this is a place where you really can re charge and relax.

Chimney Hill is a great vacation subdivision located just west of Wilmington. Here, you can rent a…read morehouse for your stay in Vermont, as well as buy a house and buy a piece of land to build on. It is extensive and consists of I believe three sections. The roads, with the exception of Haystack Rd, are not paved, making you feel like you're in the middle of the woods. The vast amount of trees and being set to the side of town help this feeling. Luckily, though, you're only five minutes from town. There is a clubhouse and a small rec center containing a few tennis courts. The homes are all very nice and you can't go wrong renting one, although we stayed with a friend in his house. You're only five minutes from the nearby lake for summer recreation and ten-fifteen minutes from the ski resorts, allowing for year round fun. Overall, if you're in the Mt. Snow area and want to rent a home away from the main tourist areas, look into Chimney Hill for a good vacation experience.

I would strongly caution anyone considering booking with this host…read more After making my reservation, I was presented with additional rental terms that I believed materially differed from what I had originally agreed to. When I asked reasonable questions, the communication quickly became hostile and unprofessional. Rather than working toward a solution, the host told me she would no longer honor our reservation. Because of those communications, I no longer felt comfortable bringing my family to the property and ultimately booked alternative accommodations at my own expense. Afterward, I noticed changes to the reservation information associated with my booking that only added to my concerns about the transparency of the listing. It appears she changes the booking information in order to avoid negative reviews, another huge red flag. After my experience, I read other reviews for this business and found that several described issues that I felt were similar to my own. While I can only speak to my personal experience, it reinforced my decision not to book with this host again. I rent vacation properties frequently and understand that misunderstandings can happen. What I cannot overlook is a lack of transparency, aggressive communication, and conduct that caused me to lose confidence in the reservation.
