I had the opportunity to stay at the Common Man Inn recently. I had some business in Claremont and didn't really want to drive the hour and a half twice in one day. It's a cool spot! Very centrally located right on the river and super homey inside. My room was nice and clean. They offer a continental breakfast, I didn't try it this time. They also have a bar and restaurant (that I also didn't try). I have to head back up that way in November and will definitely stay there again. read more

Came back for a longer, 2nd stay, and it again exceeded my expectations! Beautiful fall backdrop to this lovely Inn. Stayed in the Terrace Suite which is so spacious and roomy. Had a fireplace and private jacuzzi. Love everything about it here and cannot imagine staying anywhere else. read more

My boyfriend and I never actually planned to stay here; however, I am so happy that fate intervened and led us to the cutest place with the absolute BEST staff. After significant car trouble left us stranded in the middle of nowhere, Sam helped us get settled in. Our room was fantastic and we got there just in time to enjoy the hot tub before it closed. The holiday decor was an added bonus that put us back in good spirits. Thank you so much for making a really terrible situation a little bit better. I stayed in room 117 from 2/24-2/27. The inn is cozy. The attached restaurant is very tasty. Cute little Continental breakfast. The coffee choices of green mountain kinda suck. It's very cheap overly roasted and bitter. The room I stayed in had the absolute worst mattress. There was a HUGE depression in it where countless folks have stayed. I was able to shove half a pillow down in it. It felt like I was sleeping on a hammock. I'm surprised it hasn't been changed as I'm not that picky about mattresses. Look at the attached photos. You'll see how the edges of the made bed are much higher than the centers where people would normally sleep. I found it pretty noisy with kids yelling and screaming up above me. That's not the hotels fault but lack of saying something to those individuals is. Consider the chase house bed and breakfast up in Cornish instead. It's a bit far out but it was much quieter and the mattresses was more comfortable. The chess game with salt and pepper shakers was kinda fun. read more

So I stood in the Terrace Suite and all I can say is that it was absolutely marvelous. Upon checking in Ross and Catherine (front desk) were very kind and helpful. The food from their restaurant...Superb! (the filet mignon and steak tips are to die for). Lastly, the morning staff are very friendly and welcoming. We stayed last weekend while on a ski trip to Okemo. We got the river suite which I highly recommend. The hotel was great and the restaurant was very good. I was highly annoyed that they added (2) $2 gratuity charges to my bill without asking. If they want to charge $4 more for the room, then charge $4 and disclose the higher cost. Don't try and hide this cost and then hit me on checkout (very poor business practice!). I will select my own "gratuity" going forward, thank you very much. They did credit me this charge when I called later but I shouldn't have to do this. I would have considered giving them 4 or 5 stars, otherwise. read more

Stayed here twice in order to go to the artisan festival at Mt Sunapee. The Inn is cool inside with beams, hardwood flooring, brick walls and huge windows all left from this old mill town. The staff is friendly and super helpful. Breakfast comes with the room and right now due to this never ending pandemic it's "grab and go". The rooms are spacious, have great AC and plantation shutters. They also have small refrigerators and coffee pots. The only negative is the mattress needs replacing and the area surrounding the hotel is rundown. read more

The atmosphere hits you right when you get in. This industrial look hotel is rich in history and a true charm to stay in. It was fun walking throughout the hotel reading the historical facts. Breakfast included was a big plus, especially because me and my wife needed something quick before we hit the slopes. A huge plus is that they have pet friendly rooms. Our dog had such an awesome time and we loved having her with us! Lastly, the staff is so friendly and they make you feel right at home. Highly recommended! read more

Housed in an old (1850s) textile mill building on the banks of the Sugar River there is everything the traveler needs. Cozy rooms, comfortable beds, complimentary coffee, tea, juice. Not to mention a Common Man restaurant with great eats and drinks ... even live music when we were there. We just visited New Hampshire, attended a wedding in Sunapee and stayed here in the neighboring town of Claremont. This renovated textile mill complex is lovely, cozy and perfect for a weekend getaway (I'm sure it's even more beautiful in the winter with a fresh snowfall). Located on the Sugar River, you can choose a room with a river view if you'd like when you make your reservation. We had a standard room which was well appointed and included an amazing featherbed mattress topper. I really didn't want to get out of bed..! Also, a large flatscreen television mounted on the wall across from the bed, awesome locally made toiletries and free WIFI in rooms. Next time we'll go for the room with the fireplace if we come up in the chilly season. Their continental breakfast is located in the restaurant directly next door and has a perfect variety of items, although if you prefer more you can wait for the restaurant proper to open and enjoy their large menu. All in all, a great value for the price we paid (as listed on their website). We will definitely be visiting again in the Fall or Winter! read more

We enjoyed a family dinner here tonight (Sunday) with our 2 teenaged daughters. Atmosphere was good- a beautifully restored, decorated old mill built long the river complete with gorgeous fireplace! We had an appetizer that was perfect for 4 and also enjoyed the complementary crackers, cheese and dip. Dinners were great:chicken pot pie definitely made from scratch, a handmade burger ,'cooked nicely and NOT greasy, apple walnut chicken-yum! And polenta and vegetables. I enjoyed my stay at the Common Man Inn very much. It feels like a cross of a large chain hotel, a small B&B and a boutique hotel. The room was very nice, spacious and had some character (with the exposed brick and recovered hardwood floors). Bed and pillows were above average. The bathroom was clean, new and fully stocked with everything that you could want, from artisanal soap to moisturizing cream and Q-tips. Free continental breakfast was above average for a complementary hotel breakfast (muffins, toast, cereal and even waffles), but I probably wouldn't have had it if I had to pay for it. Only negatives that I could find, where (1) staff at the reception wasn't particularly friendly but not ride either, (2) lighting in the room was poor and (3) you may have to park in a parking garage which is about two blocks away from the hotel. It's not that it's a long walk, it's just that it has open access, is unguarded and you feel your car is pretty much abandoned with a big label "no one's going to look after me until tomorrow morning". All three negatives together probably account for less than one star. I had considered staying at a more expensive Holiday Inn Express nearby instead, and I'm very happy I didn't do so. read more

Found this via the Mount Sunapee website and thought it would be a good place to stay for a night. Not much to see in Claremont, but this was worth the trip. Very cool rehabbed old mill right on the Sugar River. Very personal feel even though they have other locations. Nice little areas to sit in the lobby, play checkers, read. Room was great too, especially the bed. Nice pillowtop mattress. Only thing is the bottom floor rooms hear a lot of walking on the floorboards above. Bring a bathing suit if you want to use the private hot tub room. Free coffee too. Most importantly, fast, free wireless throughout the building. Restaurant is very cool space, but the food was pretty mediocre for us. Cool place to have a drink though. They have their own woodford reserve batch if you like bourbon. Overall, great value. Have stayed at this hotel 2 times now, and have had a wonderful experience both times! Our first experience was in the King suite with 2 floors, large bathroom including a jacuzzi tub, fireplace, and river views! Impeccably clean and warm, friendly staff. Second stay was this past weekend where we enjoyed a king suite again, though not as large and did not include a fireplace or jacuzzi tub. Again the room was very clean, and comfortable. Featherbeds, and locally made goats milk soap and lotion were equally nice touches! Restaurant was filled lovely with very hearty New England fare, and a superb drink menu. Food was substantial if not slightly heavy for my taste but my boyfriend enjoyed and though the portions were perfect! Our waitress Michelle was kind, and on cue. Dessert (if you have room) was yummy! We have had the pies, mousse's, brownie sundae, and toll house pie! Eaten at the restaurant 4 times now and always had a good meal. My boyfriend had made a reservation in the Cascade Suite, and dinner reservations at the restaurant for Valentine's Day. The room was wonderful! Two stories, with a fireplace and jacuzzi. Our dinner experience was quite different. When we arrived for our 7pm reservation, we were told our table was still occupied and were asked to wait. 40 minutes later we were finally seated, but they brought us to a large common table with another couple sitting at the other end. I understand that it was Valentine's Day and they were busy, but we were paying over $200 to stay the night, and expected to have a private table for dinner. There were about three or four open tables around us, and when we asked to have one of those, we were told they were for other reservations. This was not the way we wanted to start out our romantic evening. Other than the rocky start, our waitress was great, and they food was wonderful. We would stay at the hotel again, but would probably not return for dinner. read more

I have stayed here on numerous occasions in various rooms. The suites are nice but expensive for what they are. Most rooms are pretty but uncomfortable. The rooms over the restaurant where we are currently staying are terrible though. There is noise from the restaurant, which isn't so bad, but they also have a ballroom and a conference room which seem to have a number of late night events happening in them for the holidays and they are very close to the guest rooms and there is little to no soundproofing. The inn needs to either invest in soundproofing the 2 guest rooms in this building or get rid of them entirely. The staff told us on checking in that there would be a new years eve party in the ballroom right next to our room that will be happening until 1 am. We have a small child and we're not planning to stay up for the new year but the staff was completely unhelpful and offered us no alternatives. We were also told there was a "totally enclosed from the elements" walkway between the hot tub and the other building where our room was - there is actually a covered walkway with a wall on one side that is open to the elements on the other side and it is -12 out right now - not great weather for walking outside after using a hot tub. Overall it's fine for a short stay if you don't mind uncomfortable beds, but if you plan to stay for any significant amount of time, you are better off going somewhere else, and don't bother staying at all of the only option is one of the rooms over the restaurant. read more

Poor attention to the basics.... We have stayed here on two other occasions and had good experiences so we decided to come back for our 15th Anniversary. I was VERY DISAPPOINTED :( We spent over $300 on a suite by the river. We had a private hotub and courtyard. This would have been a nice amenity if there wasn't a 15 ton air conditioning unit running right next to it. It was so loud out there that we couldn't relax out there. The hotub was clean, but the railing to get in was broken and there were alot of weeds in the courtyard area. The room was decorated nice. It had a very cozy feel and was huge. It was NOT clean. Everything above eye level was caked in dust, including the headboard. ( I woke up congested with a sore throat) DO NOT stay in this room unless you can sleep with A LOT of light at night. There is an exit sign IN the room. It leads to the courtyard where you are supposed to have an exit to the street, but the doors are all locked. Fire hazard! Anyway, we went to the desk to check out, no one asked how our stay was. We asked for the manager, none was available, so my husband proceeded to show the front desk agent our issues and she had nothing but excuses to offer.
