This is a truly terrible venue for a large party or event. The location and the grounds are nice, but the innkeeper is awful. I planned my wedding at the inn and deeply regret choosing this venue. At the welcome party the night before the wedding, Andy (the proprietor) cornered me to yell about a minor and very fixable infraction. He gave no warning or reasonable discussion before elevating to threats, and then continued to make the entire party feel uncomfortable for the duration of our stay. We were led to believe we would have full access to the kitchen and amenities since we had rented the entire space, but Andy doled out silverware and ice one cube at a time. He is mean, controlling, and difficult. There are many nice places in the area to have a relaxed and fun event, best advice to go elsewhere. read more

A small 16-room Inn full of history, including past presidential stays, welcomes you in Vermont. There are many wonderful things I can say about Windsor Mansion Inn but perhaps the most important was how fantastic our guest experience was because Andy was on top of every detail. We stayed for Valentine's weekend (3 nights), and it was like being welcomed into someone's mansion. The place is beautiful even in the winter snow. The accommodations are like stepping back in time, but with some modern amenities as well. The bed was a four poster antique replica with the most dreamy mattress. The in-room electric fireplace was nice within our spacious room (junior suite). Having Andy greet us every morning at breakfast was lovely, and the plated meal was delicious. We also enjoyed a bottle of wine and some food in the pub. An added bonus was entertainment one night by a talented duo. Recommendations for outside the Inn dining was provided by Andy along with some "must see things" as well. It was very nice "stepping into the historic past" at this beautiful Inn. A slow pace and a relaxing wood fire in the lobby was just what our weekend called for. We're planning to go back in warmer weather to see the grounds in all their glory and experience what other seasons have for visitors. read more

I loved my stay at the Windsor Mansion Inn. I was there for an event, and I was very impressed with the elegance of the mansion. There is ample room and privacy in the hotel and on the grounds and gardens to sit, read, and relax. We enjoyed watching the beautiful views and the chimney swifts flying overhead -- and yes, the mansion has 7 chimney stacks, reminiscent of the old days when fireplaces were the way to heat the rooms. For those who love the charm of old buildings, this place has it all. I also can't say enough about the host, who is incredibly helpful and welcoming. Finally, I want to mention that this inn offers as much as any short term rental of a complete house that I've ever stayed in, and it is, by far, a better value. read more

We came with a large group and rented the entire mansion, which was a mixed experience. I think this would be a great place to stay as an individual guest in a single room (hotel style). The rooms are well kept and comfortable. The property manager (Andy) is very available and helpful when you want him to be. I can't recommend it as a private rental with a large group though. We discovered the property on Airbnb, so private rentals are part of what they do, but it seems that most of their business and most reviews online are from smaller groups who stayed in a single room. As a private rental, you'll pay the high rate for privacy that you are used to with large homes on Airbnb, but with a less private and more tightly controlled experience. When we arrived, Andy showed us around and laid the ground rules. For example, we were supposed to clean the kitchen before we left, which is normal. On Saturday morning, we made eggs and bacon using one pan and two baking sheets. We planned to clean them that night as we were leaving Sunday morning, figuring it didn't matter to leave the kitchen unclean in the middle of our stay. Andy came to us later and said he was frustrated that he had to clean up after us, and also called us "stupid" for using baking sheets without foil. We were all shocked and frustrated that he never laid out this expectation and also felt the need to insult us. I think he would do well as a hotel host, because that is meant to be a more tightly controlled experience, but if you do a private rental from him, don't expect the privacy and independence that you are used to with most homes on Airbnb. read more

I loved our stay- we stayed in the art deco room! Absolutely beautiful. I loved the calm tranquility of the grounds and it was gorgeous. We were only here for one night as it was a stop on an extensive road trip and it was perfect. I want to come back as soon as possible as it was the most beautiful place. I think the inn keeper so was attentive and kind, he really payed attention to details and from check in to check out, he was lovely. The room was clean, it was beautiful decorated and the history is unbeatable. Even staying here for the views alone would be more than appropriate but everything about the stay was superb. Andy the owner is a pathetic, sad man with nothing better to do than to hate on his guests. Behind a false hospitality lies a man who is deeply disturbed. Not a friendly man. We messaged him on Airbnb hours before showing up and he didn't respond- we headed to his hotel anyways, hopeful that he would allow us to check in. He did- and apologized, allowing us to upgrade our room for free. At the end of our checkout though, he left us a review complaining about how we were late- and checked in past time! (If we were late, why did he apologize and feel the need to give an upgrade on the house?) My husband and I rented this place through Airbnb and the walls are THIN!!! Zero privacy. You can hear every word that your neighbors say. During our stay, I was drinking tea and was asked to not bring the cups upstairs- or to "drink on certain tables only". He practically screamed at me when I put a tea cup on a center table (on top of a napkin). Made me want to leave immediately!!! The owner is the only staff member, and clearly is in charge of cleaning as well because he left comments about beard trimmings in the sink and dirty tissues! Just to clarify, this is an Inn! Not a typical airbnb where you are asked to clean up after yourself. He ignored us on multiple occasions to tend to other guests, and on our checkout was bragging that he had "a group of 10" coming. So unprofessional! If you want a nice place to stay in, don't stay here!!! Run away!!!! read more

The coziest little inn with beautiful Vermont vibes. We felt so cozy and at home, had the best sleep of my life. Everything was clean and the front desk was extremely accommodating. We didn't order breakfast, but they provided delicious muffins for us on our way out anyway. 10/10. Very beautiful, comfortable, historic, and cozy. read more

We loved our shirt but sweet stay in this beautiful old estate. The inn keeper is kind, informative, gave us great recommendations, booked a table for us at the local steakhouse, and was overall very hospitable even with a very full house. We spent a single night passing through Vermont and were assigned The Writers Room, which was unbelievable like walking back in time. Gorgeous four poster bed, claw foot tub/shower combo, fireplace, reading nook with a small but fun collection of vintage books along with a delightful binder of all the details one would need to know about the area. Yesterday, Oct 11, 2024, a date which will live in infamy, my spouse and I were callously subjected to the most unprofessional treatment in our recall. To conclude our first vacation to VT in 35 years, my spousal surprise would be a visit to the hallowed halls of our engagement, the former Juniper Hill Inn. A quick peek was all that was planned to reminisce over our most treasured romantic memory. That was prior to meeting the Innkeeper, apparently a modern-day Jekyll and Hyde I gather from recent review perusals. To be accurate, the henceforth to be referred to as 'Hyde' was engaged with a handsome young couple planning the impending arrival of their guests. Stating our wish not to intrude, the innkeeper proceeded to display not the slightest modicum of civility, despite the couple's warm, open-hearted response to our engagement tale and their encouragement of our peeking. In no uncertain terms, we were permitted to step a few feet into the next room, take a look, proceed to the front door and exit, where we could view the surrounding grounds. My wife, refusing to return inside after Hyde's tone of blatant dismissal, prudently placed the choke collar on her outraged husband. Of course, it is conceivable the Hyde possessed the mental capacity of a single-threader, such do exist, and was incapable of politely handling an impromptu appearance. No excuse will ever suffice, however, for his discourteous behavior. And so ended our VT vacation and, with it, the forever tarnished memory of that glorious evening 36 years ago as well as our intended plans for a 50+ family member reunion at the Windsor Inn. We made a last minute stop in Windsor and were lucky to get a room at the Windsor Mansion Inn. What an unexpected pleasure. The room was well appointed and very clean and comfortable, the host was friendly, knew the area well and directed us to some great local places. The house itself is beautiful and its history was fun to learn about, especially as we were headed to the St. Gaudens historic site in Cornish, NH. We will definitely go back and would recommend this Inn to others. read more

Windsor Mansion Inn formerly known as Juniper Hill Inn, which was featured on Gordon Ramsey's "Hotel Hell". Beautifully remodeled and updated from top to bottom . Totally worth the trip to VT. Located in the middle of everything from Harpoon Brewery to all your local farms. Food: Delicious simple breakfast. Not a whole lot of late night food options so eat early or bring back something to eat when your ready for that late dinner or night snack. Brew: They are located 5 minutes from Harpoon Brewery and it's the cherry on top of your perfect relaxing getaway. Harpoon offer Brewery tours on the weekend and your perfect bar menu to enjoy for lunch or dinner. Ken was awesome enough to include my kind of welcome basket, 6 beers from Harpoon with 2 pilsner glasses. Like I said earlier, recently renovated from top to bottom and it's nothing like the Juniper Hill Inn. Ken did a great job preserving what this Mansion is. Easy commute from New York City. I was married over Labor Day weekend and rented the entire in for my family. (15 rooms). Andy the Inkeeper was beyond amazing- checking in with me regarding reservations, giving a tour to my dad and my inlaws, accommodating my 94 year old Gramma, as well as two new mothers with babies. The location is sublime. All of our guests were from out of state, and I couldn't imagine a better place to show off Vermont to our favorite people. Guests couldn't stop gushing about how helpful everyone at the Windsor Mansion Inn was. It was truly perfect, beyond all expectation. We LOVED the experience.It's a beautiful historic and elegant place. The view is beyond compare.Thanks to Andy and all your friendly and helpful colleagues. We want to come back for our anniversary. Beautiful location for an historically significant property. The Windsor Mansion Inn, in previous incarnations as a private residence, has hosted Teddy Roosevelt, Woodrow Wilson, and Calvin Coolidge. We booked the Theodore Roosevelt Suite for one night. Overall the property and room exceeded our expectations. Very nicely furnished, as if the guests are trusted not to break and steal stuff. Very nice owner and staff. We particularly enjoyed the view of the hills from the inn's vantage point. The ONLY problem I had was with the shower head. It was one of those large rain shower heads that was so blocked water only squirted out of three holes (out of what was probably 40 to 50 holes total). It was impossible to take a shower, so I gave up and took a bath instead. Also, be advised that, true to the era of the mansion, there are no TVs in the rooms; so bring a good book or plan to stream through your laptop. Finally, the location is remote from the town, so plan on driving to restaurants. read more

The Windsor Mansion Inn is a quintessential Vermont inn. Properly furnished rooms, walls teeming with history and care, and a delightful innkeeper, Andy. My girlfriend and I did an extended staycation in Vermont and our first night of our trip was at WMI. We had drinks in the pub and enjoyed a game of chess by the fire. We even managed to see an engagement (successful) happen right outside the door! This is a massive structure, but significant attention to detail is found in every corner. WMI is also situated at the top of a large hill with expansive views over the White River and Windsor town. Breakfast was continental and delicious, the bathrooms were well stocked and had plenty of hot water. Great for young couples or historical enthusiasts. As i traveled to visit my Daughter in Northern Vermont this weekend, I came across this delightful place to stay as I grew weary from driving. As I pulled into the back of the mansion, I must admit I was wondering if the place was open. I didn't have a reservation but their website that I checked hours before said that they had a some rooms unoccupied. I entered and was greeted by one of the most gracious of hosts that I have ever run across. Andy was great and as someone that was weary from the road, I was able to relax and feel at home instantly. The room was fantastic and the morning breakfast hit the spot. If I am ever back in the area, this little gem will definitely be in the plans. My friends and I went to Windsor mansion inn because it was on hotel hell. We parked wholly expecting to buy a beer or a little food and enjoy the nice view at a beautiful inn on the hilltop. Within two minutes of our arrival a man came out and asked us if we were staying in the inn. Answering honestly, we said we were not. He quickly and curtly told us to leave, ushering away our business. Honestly, I do not leave many reviews. This inn seems beautiful, but telling potential customers to leave, especially when we were considering staying at the inn the future. Extremely disappointed. read more

We stayed at Windsor Mansion Inn during a fun girls getaway weekend before a new baby arrives and LOVED our stay at the inn! We stayed in The French Room on the 3rd floor which was extremely comfortable. Andy, the gentleman that runs the inn was so genuinely kind and hospitable and went out of his way to make sure we had an enjoyable stay. I have never been treated so poorly in the first minute of meeting a hotel staff, Andy, in my life. Don't get to the property early, don't enjoy the grounds before check-in or don't enter the property before check-in because if you do, you will get yelled at for doing so! He told me I wasn't welcome to do any of the above. The yelling continued after check-in, when I told him I didn't like how I was treated. At one point he said I could leave. I spent 30 years working as a meeting and event planner and would have never ever treated anyone the way he treated me. read more

We absolutely love the place. The quaint rooms were tastefully furnished with antiques reflecting the character and ambiance reminiscent of days lived long ago. The innkeeper's, John and Gayle, saw to every small detail to ensure our trip was comfortable and memorable. John recommended areas he thought we would be interested in seeing and since GPS is at best sketchy in this remote area, provided a road map with highlighted routes. Gayle gave us a tour of the inn adding quips of History about the inn and some of the former famous visitors. She also saw that our room was cleaned to perfection. The linen was crisp and the bathroom always had plenty of fresh towels. We were delighted to find a delicious breakfast containing fresh fruit, pastries, omelettes and bacon waiting for us in the dining-room room every morning and at the time we requested the previous night. We had to depart one night earlier than expected and still have not received a partial refund as discussed with hotel management. It has been over one month and trying to call several times. Everyone was nice, helpful and polite during our stay but they do not stick to their word. Upon leaving the hotel we planned to return with some friends but due to our experience after we will no longer return. I've spoken to three people and no one calls back or resolves the issue. If you want to adjust your stay for any reason-don't expect your money back even if you come to an agreement. The facility has lost us as customers and any respect. read more

My first night staying at Windsor Mansion with my husband. I can not express enough about Andy. During covid 19 and all the rules in place. Andy did an amazing job with everyone staying there. He checks you in, shows you around, (I am particularly interested in history,) educated us on the mansions history/current owners and even showed us some nice pieces in the library that our presidents were involved with. He served us at the bar and when we woke up, he was serving us breakfast. Called day of my reservation and left a message if it would be possible to check in prior to the 4pm time, never received a call back. Anyway, Pulled up to the back door,(no access to front door) and was immediately stopped and told to wait at the door, put on a mask and wait till my temperature was taken. We never heard the word welcome but we did get a 10 minute lesson on how we were to social distance, wear masks in all public places, how to ensure the keurig coffee station stays clean, etc. Nowhere else in Vermont was there was an assumption that we should be treated as if we were diseased. The room was pleasant and clean. But the in-house bar we were told would only be open until 10 that night was closed when we came back from dinner hoping to have a nightcap. Ok, we'll at least according to the other reviews, we have a good breakfast to look forward to. Wrong! We we told we could have breakfast at 8:30 or 8:45. So we go at our appointed time, I had hoped to start the day with a nice cup of coffee, nope, house blend keurig all you can get. Oh well. Let's see what the breakfast is going to be, I'll bet it's gonna be good! Here it comes! Wow, two ounces of yesterday's yogurt with a bit of skin on it, add three strawberry slices and pinch of granala and you got the makings of a balanced breakfast. Now, since I don't eat yogurt I had to satisfy my hunger with the other part of the breakfast, freaking Entemens pastry, you know, the kind you get from Stop & Shop regularly on a buy one, get one free sale. We had an unusual experience at the Windsor Mansion Inn. Up until the last 10 minutes our experience was exceptional. The host was expecting us when we arrived and made us feel so welcome, he made excellent room upgrade recommendations, took such care to keep us and the other guests socially distanced and safe, and served us a delicious breakfast. It was so unfortunate that just as we were finishing breakfast & preparing to leave he engaged us in a political argument that was so incredibly unprofessional that after such a wonderful stay he took us from planning our next visit to never wanting to stay there again in just a few minutes. I have been in sales for 30+ years and have never once had a political argument with a client. It's just not something you do if you want repeat business. I'm sorry that after such a pleasant stay an unfortunate discourse such as this left such a bad taste in our mouths. I hope he does not repeat this mistake with other guests. read more

My son and his fiancé were married at the Windsor Mansion Inn in August. I cant say enough of how pleased we were with truly everything. Gayle, the manager/innkeeper was our contact person as she and her husband John run the Inn. Gayle was so warm and helpful. I liked her right away. She was very clear about everything and wanted to make it a great weekend for our family and friends. The Inn and the surrounding patio and garden areas were gorgeous and the views were stunning. We were extremely happy with the service and the beautiful surroundings. The Mansion itself is lovely with each guest room tastefully decorated with all of them a bit different than the next. I saw 5 different rooms and they were all charming, crisp and clean. We chose to have the Rehearsal Dinner party at the Inn as well as the wedding. We enjoyed excellent Salmon, Chicken and Lobster Ravioli. Because they are a B and B they don't handle wedding size crowds so the wedding was catered. But, they were able to easily handle our rehearsal dinner party of 28 guests for dinner . We had the entire Inn to ourselves as our guests were staying at the Inn. It is on top of a hill all by itself so it is entirely private. They had a bar available during non-wedding times and available for the after party as well. The wedding reception for 100 people was held on a huge tented trex deck adjoining the Inn and the beautiful patio.. It was so convenient and accessible to everything. The bride scheduled a yoga session on the patio on the morning of the wedding as the sun came up. I can't say enough about the Windsor Mansion. Gayle and John were wonderful and felt like friends by the end. We could not have asked for a better wedding venue experience. It would be a great spot for a family or friend reunion since it has about 18 guest rooms. We found there was lots to do nearby. The groomsmen played golf at the local Country Club that was 5 minutes down the road. We also met friends at The Station for dinner (also 5 minutes away). Those same friends hiked Ascutney Mountain State Park the morning of the wedding. So much to do with no traffic and a low key relaxing pace. A weekend we won't forget for our family. read more

I reserved 3 rooms, back in January 2016, for my brother's wedding on Saturday, June 18, 2016. My whole family stayed at the Windsor Mansion Inn. We were told by Ken, the owner, that it was being renovated and he told us it would be ready by the weekend we had booked. He quoted us room rates for that weekend. When we arrived that day, it was only partially finished. There was no lobby, reception area or kitchen. The driveway was completely dusty, as was the entire downstairs of the inn. The bedrooms were partially finished. There were no wastebaskets in the rooms, no kleenex. No wifi, no kitchen, no coffeemakers. The nearest deli or store was miles away. There were carpenter ants in the room, crawling into my suitcase. In my sister's room, a bird flew down the chimney and was flying around her bedroom. We finally trapped it. Then when she pulled the covers down on her bed, there were bird feathers all over the sheets. We asked Ken for a discount on the rooms , and he refused. I was shocked! We stayed that night after the wedding, as there was no place else to stay, but I would never recommend this inn to anyone! For good customer service and good will, he should have at least discounted the rooms and provided coffee in the morning. He didn't , so, stay away from this place!!!! read more
