Pretend you're me: It's cold, rainy and miserable. You park near Insomnia Cookies and walk in wet--only to find no employee at the counter. A lone couple waits for service, ignored. In time, a girl appears from behind a wall. Lethargic, dreary-eyed, non-committal. "I'll be with you," she says to the couple then disappears behind the wall again. In a bit, she putters to the cookie oven, opens it, turns a tray twice then slogs back to the counter. Still ignoring you (me), she approaches, takes the couple's order--then returns to the oven. She waits for the couple's order, going out of her way to avoid eye contact with you (me) and presumably, the burden of customer service. She wraps the couple's package, hands it to them and then eases back to the oven. You call to her. "Can you help me, I think that's my order on top of the oven." She gazes at the order from a mile off, lifts her helium balloon hands, takes hold of the cookie box and reads the name. Take note: I've been standing there for over ten minutes. I confirm it's mine and ask why it's been sitting there when I could have been out and happy nine minutes sooner. Flat-eyed, she says, "I was busy with other customers." You (I) think, "Wow," and wonder if she's okay, in an altered state (it is Colorado) or sick. You want to feel bad for her, but she looks at you as if you're hateful for questioning her, her schedule and lack of service aptitude. I've worked all over the world, including the pits of Miami and South America where customer service is at best optional and normally terrible. My experience at Insomnia Cookies that night, starting at 7:09 PM and ending at 7:23 PM, was worse. By far the worst service I've received in Colorado, particularly Fort Collins. Will you receive better service? Perhaps. Was this an aberration? Maybe. But the anecdote is fact--terrible enough service for me to write a review. I don't blame the girl She's a kid. Who knows what was on her mind or in it, if anything. I blame management. Two employees present, no supervision and terrible customer service. These cookies were pretty good. I ordered a dozen. Paid around $24. They had all sorts of flavors, snickerdoodle, mint chocolate, peanut butter , candy cookie, chocolate chip. Double chocolate. Parking here is a little difficult at times. No problem getting in or out of the shop. The guy who helped me was totally cool. He put the warm cookies in a pizza looking box , I paid on their iPad and that was that. The cookies lasted and still tasted "fresh" a few days later too. However the mint one , it's pretty strong in mint, and the same day I ordered them the mint essence had gotten to some of the cookies. Buyer beware there is some shady business going on here!! Last night my fiance and I decided to buy some cookies for a friend's birthday. Rather than ordering online we decided to go there instead, being that we live so close. My fiance's car was in the process of being towed within minutes of us arriving. We went outside to find out what was going on and the tow truck driver was demanding $70 to release the vehicle. THE DEAL WAS $70 NOW OR $400 TOW. He made it very clear that he works for Insomnia Cookies and was told to tow any car illegally parked in the back parking lot. He pointed out a sign that wasn't very visible (in the dark) and located fairly high up the wall. So if someone were looking at the other signs posted much lower, it would be easily missed. I understand businesses are hurting right now but this is not the way to go about it. The employee's could and should have told us about the parking situation. They clearly saw that we walked from the back parking lot. And nothing was said. Even after we explained to them we just recently moved here and were looking forward to trying their cookies. How can anyone support a business being shady like this??? ***Message to business "spend the money on proper large signage so, consumers can see them in a dark parking lot!!! By 6:33 I was told 3 minutes later my car was being towed employees acted like oh your car is being towed? I'm like what???? Why would my car be towed? Our CAR WAS TOWED!!!!! $370 later I didn't have a credit card to pay so he offered for me to Venmo $70 or $370 to tow my car so what choice did I have they towed my car. The tow truck driver was a complete a * and said that the parking is only for delivery drivers only and employees. It's dark out signs are not visible they are placed very low they must be scamming customers and this is disgusting to me and I wanted to just surprise my neighbor since I found out that she had a birthday so we wanted to support a small business. You can't beat the flavor of these cookies. Particularly if you like Snickerdoodles; they're the best in Colorado as far as I know from 20 years of tasting and testing the 'doodle here. (It's a hard job, but someone's got to do it.) I've dropped by in person to the storefront twice and have had orders delivered three times. The cookies are great for late night snacking not just because of the sugar rush but for their warm, soft goodness, the kind of cookie you'd use a spatula to take them off the tray because they're so warm and floppy. Delish. Tonight, alas, my cookies arrived cold. Still great flavors and nice texture, but not a hint of warmth anywhere in the container they came in (like a small pizza box). Delivery was prompt, the young woman doing the delivery was delightful (and good at finding a place like mine, tucked up against the park). But I didn't realize until she left that we were the proud new owners of 12 cold cookies plus three cold but free chocolate chip cookies, a special for the night. I am (dutifully) sampling the cookies as I write; the chunk chocolate cookies are fully cold to the hand and a little crunchy on the outside where their original goodness has grown sadly rigid. I wish Insomnia Cookies would pack a little flyer saying how best to warm up their cookies when they're being delivered in cold and wind. That might even be useful for the next day if your eyes were bigger than your stomach. I like the place, I like the people who work there, and I usually love their cookies, so I'll be giving them another chance. If anyone from Insomnia is reading this please know it'd be a huge service to your customers to advise how best to heat up the cold ones.Maybe even a URL printed on the box saying HOW TO HEAT UP YOUR COOKIES? read more

I called and spoke with the manager, Alicia, who said that they would hold a credit that I could redeem the next time I ordered cookies. I tried to call the store today to add cookies to my order and was connected to a customer support rep, Tahira. She was patient when I got frustrated and she went above and beyond when she didn't see notes on my previous order. She called the store and spoke with Alicia. They made things right! Cute place! Stopped in here after dinner with a friend n our kiddos. They have a good selection of cookies to choose from and ice cream as well. To start when we walked in the employees were smoking, the floor was super dirty (leaves and foot prints) and the counter girl wasn't very nice. Then when we went to order we felt rushed, they were out of buttercream frosting, s'mores cookies, and birthday cake cookies. Those were my first three choices. Then when I asked more jokingly why they ran out she said don't look at me I can't control it. Any way, after I got my cookies that I paid almost $12 for three of them, they were super salty and barely edible. I know covid has changed a lot of hours but everywhere it says open until 3 am, on the website it says "open now", google maps "open now", apple maps "open now" even on yelp it says they're open until 3 am everyday. I walked up to the door at 2:30 am and there was two workers inside the door was locked, I was confused and they just gave me a dirty look as if i was an idiot for trying to go in. I'm sorry but the window has a huge sticker that says 3 am so i really don't get why you wouldn't expect costumers to show up past that time. I would more realistically rate a 2.5. Regardless, I was not impressed. I heard a lot of hype surrounding this place and unfortunately it did not live up to my expectations. The biggest factor was the pricing. Almost $2 for a normal size cookie, that's a bit absurd. Other places in town have larger cookies for the same price or cheaper. I would be more accepting of the price if the cookies were of higher quality, although I found them to be slightly above average. As well, service is huge for me, and I understand it's a cookie shop in a college town, but customer service should still be of upmost priority.
