He didn't think it would work but was worth a try since my care was only worth $2500. I tried it and it passed smog with flying colors. The master window switch also went out. Toyota wanted $700 plus dollors! Dave found one for $23 on Ebay. Truecare charges the going rate, but are well worth it for their expertise and honesty.

The precious metals are platinum, palladium, and rhodium. I ordered a Miller CAT catalytic converter shield direct from the factory for $200. I opted for the stainless steel version instead of the aluminum version as it slows down the thieves if they're using a Sawzall to cut through it. Miller CAT shields use patented proprietary high security screws so either thieves have to drill the screws out or cut through the steel plate. The local Toyota dealer wanted $306 labor. Ken, the owner squeeze me in on a Monday (which is probably their busiest day) with drive shafts and other work coming in. This is a busy shop! I am a part time teacher for automotive and diesel technology at 2 local high schools, I could have done it myself. I could have used the school's 2 post lift but that takes away from students. Ken and his staff installed the Miller CAT shield and properly torqued the proprietary high security screws in about an hour. The bill was well below what the dealer would have charged. I highly recommend ADCO. They are extremely competent and honest.

My '64 Pontiac A/C Needed Help. I've owned this car for almost 10 years and the original A/C…read moresystem has worked well through most of that time. Recently however, I've noticed that the air coming out of the A/C vents didn't seem to be as cold as it should be. I could see a lot of vapor bubbles passing by the sight glass on the line back to the compressor. A little meat thermometer showed a temperature of about 60 degrees coming out of the vents on a hot day. My trusted mechanic suggested Jetair and I made an appointment for two days ago. Jetair was ready to do a diagnostic on my car almost exactly at the appointed time. They went to work while I waited in a comfortable chair in the office. They were to do a dye inspection and then add refrigerant to the system if the system didn't show any leaks. An hour later the job was done and John explained everything they had done: after the dye inspection, they had added 14 oz. of refrigerant and a little compressor oil. After I got the car back on the road with the same meat thermometer, the temperature was now almost at 40 degrees coming out of the vents. I can't say enough about this experience: an appointment system that really works for the customer; a shop willing and able to work on an old A/C system; no attempt to "upsell" me anything I didn't need. Evidently the word is out to the old car owners. While I was there, another old car owner came in with a need for A/C work. Again, I can't say enough about Jetair.

On Sunday, my 18-year-old Lhasa went to bed and then woke up at midnight with a tummy ache. By Tuesday morning, Otis was gone. Otis died of acute kidney failure at Goldorado Animal Hospital. He had just received a clean bill of health at Airport Pet Clinic in late March. I felt totally blind-sided. On Wednesday, I took Otis to Caring Pet Crematory in Sacramento. Both the hospital and this place were very kind, which meant a lot because I am new to the area. On Thursday, my car wouldn't start. The battery was fried. John was out of town on a work trip so I asked my neighbor for a jump start so I could get to O'Reilly's for a battery. I was shocked how expensive batteries were post-pandemic. Then I was given a list of mechanics to call to install it. I didn't know if they would do it or how much they would charge. Fortunately, Cameron Park Auto was first on my list. At first Debbie couldn't help me so I just went into auto pilot mode. You know, don't take it personally, don't burst into tears, just say thank you, hang up and go down the list. I was leaving a voicemail with another mechanic when Debbie called me back. Debbie said she talked with the mechanic and they found a way to help me. Later, Debbie told me she sensed something was wrong and knew I needed help. I bought the battery at O'Reilly's but before I could drive over to CPA, my car wouldn't start. O'Reilly's has jumper cables so I told Debbie I'll be over as soon as my car started. Debbie said, "Hold on." Next thing I know, Josh brought out a better battery and John installed it at O'Reilly's. I couldn't believe it! I don't know what Debbie said but it was so nice to feel like when your world is coming undone that there are nice people out there who care. After I got my car running, I drove over to CPA and thanked Debbie in person. I wanted her to know I REALLY appreciated her kindness.
