My vehicle was undriveable and J and J was booked 2 weeks out, but I was going on vacation so I had my vehicle towed to their shop in case they had an opening. When I returned in only 1 week my vehicle was completely finished, the bill was less than the estimate and they had included an oil change but it wasn't billed on the invoice. Their business is safe and secure on off hours and Josh's communication is clear, concise and friendly. My daughter currently had her vehicle at another shop in Cameron Park awaiting service but decided to have it towed to J and J because of how they treated me and my vehicle. I'd lived in Placerville for a year before needing work on my cars and I didn't know any mechanics, so when the time came ("check engine" lights--first one one car and then on the other), I thought the safest thing was to go to a dealer. I thought it but I was wrong. The dealer's service rep, who was drooling with the apparent anticipation of a big commission, presented me with a to-do list resembling a CVS receipt. It was a $4,000 litany of woes, this list. I advised the gentleman that I did not have $4,000 on me at the moment, asking that he help me prioritize the work. "I can't do this all at once," I said. "Help me prioritize." "It all has to be done," he replied. "I can't do it all now," I said. "What needs to be done first?" "It all has to be done." (I remember now that his name was Chris, and I am trying very hard not to let the experience with that particular Chris color my relations with all the other, less mercenary, Chrisses in my life.) I thanked Chris and said I'd figure things out and get back to him. By "figure things out" I meant "go somewhere else." And I'm so, so glad I did. A quick look at Yelp reviews led me to J&J. Good reviews helped me to feel safe, and from Moment One, everything was fine. I handed over the dealer's CVS receipt. "Here's what the dealer gave me. They wouldn't help me prioritize. Can you make sense of this?" "Well, for one thing, these prices are pretty crazy." "And?" "Let's check the computer and see what it says." From then on, these guys did exactly what I hoped. They assessed the issues, explained what was urgent and what wasn't, and did the work for fair prices. They were like doctors who make you feel better just by being around you. In the six months since that first visit, J&J has worked several times on both my cars, and every single time they've been friendly, patient and professional. They stand by their work and have always done the right thing or even surprised us by going the extra mile no questions asked. Josh, James & Nick are the best mechanics in placerville. We have taken our vehicles to them now for about 5 years I don't trust anyone else here in placerville. We drop our vehicles off they give us an estimate of the cost and usually the cost is less than the estimate. I have referred quite a few people to them. Recently I had new tires put on a used vehicle I just purchased and the company that put on the tires said there was a lot of things wrong and they could do the job for $1500.00 I took the car to J&J I told them what we knew was wrong with the car and what the tire shop had said was wrong with the car. J&J fixed the problem I didn't need a new rack. Anyway $1000.00 cheaper now the used car is a great commuter car. Thanks guys your the best. read more

I rarely write reviews, but just had to let people know how great J&J is. We were on a long driving trip when the oil light went on in my car. J&J was the closest auto care place and I was so lucky they were close by. They told me that I had almost no oil left, but didn't see any leaks. They put in the necessary quarts of oil and only charged me $15 for the oil! They refused to take any money for the time they had spent helping me. Wish I lived close enough to use these honest guys all the time. read more

I took my car to J&J this week to have them check out a sound. I dropped it off at 9, walked with the baby to get a coffee at bean barn and before I even started walking back they called and knew what the sound was. I got back to the shop, they told me and let me know how much it would cost to replace-the alternator- and said no charge today because it didn't take very long to find out what the sound was since one of them also have the same vehicle. The dealership wanted to charge me around $1,000 for a big service. I paid under $200 here. Being it was so much cheaper, I had questions as to how that was possible. They printed the services that were recommended for the mileage of my specific car and showed it to me so I knew exactly what was done. Seriously amazing. I took my 1991 GMC Sonoma truck in because it didn't pass smog. The shop had been recommended to me by a couple of people, including someone from the local auto parts place. They replaced the catalytic converted and suggested replacing the O2 sensor while they were in there. The sensor was just $30. The catalytic converter was, as expected, more, darnit anyway : ) I took the truck back to the smog shop and it passed the smog test with flying colors. The two mechanics (the "J's" in J&J) seemed diligent and honest. They got the work done in short order and at a schedule that worked for me. I'll go back. read more

I took my car in for violent shaking between 55-65mph and explained to the guy on the phone that my neighbor suspected it could be transmission or something simple and that it felt like it was trying to shift but wouldn't, took it in for the appointment they couldn't get it to shake and I couldn't understand why, turned out a few things needing replace at the front end so I had them fix that. My 2 star review comes because I feel like they weren't wanting to listen to me when I was trying to explain why I didn't feel that was the reason for the violent movements. Then when my husband came to pick it up he was also questioning and asked if they even ran the computer and they then tell me oh yea they did and it looks like my traction control popped up with multiple codes but I wasn't told anything about that when they told me the front end needed some work. then I took my car for a ride the next day and shocker... still violently shakes at 55mph. Called them before I made an appointment to find out what they do as far as transmission repairs and the guy tells me we changed the story from accelaration vibrations to transmission issues. At that point I didn't want to argue and peacefully got off the phone. I never mentioned accelarating issues I don't know how many times I mentioned transmission and getting interrupted and cut off. I am very disappointed I took my car to them after seeing they had 5 star review and unfortunately they must have fell short on my service. Other than terrible customer service they did do a good job at fixing the front end and I am appreciative for that but customer service is very important to me. LONG REVIEW I KNOW read more
