Luis did a great job on a tricky exterior stucco repair on a rooftop patio. The recent heavy rain in LA at the beginning of the year revealed a bad leak at an exterior wall corner that led to deterioration of the substrate to the point where water was entering the house. The exterior wall and substrate needed to be rebuilt correctly and sealed properly so the leak wouldn't reoccur. Luis was clear about the scope and communicated well throughout. He handled the prep the right way (paper/lath, corner and bottom section repair, sealing/flashing details, etc.) and then applied the stucco in stages. The finish came out clean and professional. What I appreciated most: Luis is detail-oriented and cared about getting the final look right. He didn't just paint the new wall -- he also painted a pre-existing, adjoining wall so the color match would be seamless. The blend came out excellent and the whole area now looks intentional, not like a patch. Fair pricing, solid workmanship, great attention to detail and follow-through. It has taken me quite some time to post this review, which I do believe needs to be shared. Reflecting on my experience with Luis (and looking at the walls of my home each day), still incites many emotions within me... I have made every effort to write this in a straightforward manner. I hired Luis in June for an interior painting job: 3 bedrooms and a small hallway in my new (100 year old) home. Prior to painting, he patched cracks in the bedroom ceilings and re-stuccoed two of them. He removed wallpaper from one bedroom and applied a skim coat to those walls. Luis was available to get started on the job immediately, which was great. He provided a competitive bid and estimated a rather quick turnaround time, on which he delivered (even with three days of work unexpectedly cancelled -- unfortunately, at the expense of the job). He and his team were prompt to arrive daily and began the project energetically. Luis was friendly and personable; still, he and I experienced a clash in communication, and I ultimately found his approach to be far from professional. In an effort to streamline, here are the main reasons I found my paint job to be unacceptable: - floor protection was insufficient (thin brown paper was left damp on top of hardwood flooring at the end of the workday, tape extended onto baseboards) - prep work was insufficient (dust from sanding was not entirely cleared away prior to priming, skim coats uneven) - wait time between coats of paint was insufficient (I stood in the room with Luis while he painted three coats on a single wall within 15 minutes) - touch ups were incomplete (tape was applied to doorknobs and baseboards haphazardly; once removed, surrounding areas were left unpainted) - overspray on hardware and door jambs is noticeable and unattractive (also inconsistent - there was not a plan in place for these) - in one room, coats of paint on neighboring walls are mismatch (there are white patches of primer visible on one) - I ended up purchasing some supplies which I expected to be provided, including buckets, paint trays, tape, and primer (although our agreement was for Luis to supply primer and for me to supply colors) - the amount of paint and primer needed was grossly overestimated and was used inefficiently (also, lids/caps were lost in the mess; now I have two half-full 5-gal buckets of primer drying out in my garage) - they had an incomplete plan for disposal of paint water and refused to take empty paint cans at the end of the project - I was inappropriately pressured for payment on multiple occasions (at one point Luis threatened to abandon the job if I did not provide payment beyond the agreed-upon installments; he also waited in my driveway on the final day of the job and did not allow me the time or space to walk through my home to ensure the job was sufficiently complete) While I cannot speak to an exterior paint or stucco job, I strongly hold the opinion that this team is not yet equipped to deliver a complete and refined interior paint job. I would not recommend Interior Exterior Renovations for an interior project anytime in the foreseeable future. read more

Luis did a small job for me replacing the drip boards under a couple of window AC units a few months ago. When he put one of the windows back together, he didn't put the glass into the slot and left an opening between the glass and the window frame. When I asked him to fix it, he said that he didn't provide a warranty for this clearly bad workmanship. Regardless, he said that he would fix it before the 4th of July. I asked him twice to give me a date and time so that I could let my tenant know. It has been 4 days, and I have not heard back.
