Nice location, great view, clean building. Service was a bit slow, but not bad. All things considered, the value was pretty good. We ordered a scotch egg, a mixed drink, and a Guinness for starters. I've never had a scotch egg. It wasn't exactly what I had expected, but it was very tasty. The beer was a Guinness so... good. My wife ordered a grouper sandwich with truffle Parmesan fries. The fish that I tasted was really good. The fries came with a sauce. Without the sauce the fries weren't really all that good. With the sauce they were better. I think the truffle threw me a bit. My wife liked them though. I ordered bangers and mash and a Yorkshire pudding on the side. The sausage was very tasty, the gravy was really good. The pudding with the gravy was really good. The mashed potatoes tasted like they were instant. Okay, but not as good as they would have been if they were made from potatoes instead of out of a box. The dish came with fried onion rings on top and a bite that included a bit of everything was very tasty. We ordered the toffee pudding for desert. THAT was great!! I'm not really a person who likes sweets, but that stuff was really good. All in all, this is a really good place. Saturday brunch items so there was nothing complicated or specially requested as the menu was limited. My BLT on fried bread came out warm, no crispness on the "fried bread" that seemed more like a pita that had been warmed on the flat-top. Pathetic sliver of discolored and withered lettuce had to be removed. Bacon was good. Tomato had no taste. The mixed fruit as a side was OK. Not impressed with the food and will not return. Also, please be aware that they have a "sharing fee" as well as the credit card usage fee. It would be nice if diners could counteract these charges for the wait times, less than stellar food...that no one would be tempted to share anyway. Looking for something a little different, I stumbled across Calvert's while exploring Yelp. Looking over the reviews and photos it sounded like a place the whole family would enjoy. So, we packed up the car and headed over. While the dining room and outdoor eating area weren't very busy, the bar area appeared to be jumping! The Old English motif is fun and sets the stage for a great meal. The menu offerings include items like shepherd's pie, bangers and mash, fish and chips, pasties, well you get the picture... We ordered a variety of options. The food was good. Not great, but good nonetheless. The sticky toffee pudding for dessert was very good. What wasn't very good was service. It's not that the server wasn't kind and accommodating. He was just stretched too thin. This place doesn't assign servers' "sections." Instead, the servers take patrons on a rotational basis, and those patrons are seated in various areas throughout the establishment. (It's pretty difficult for a server to give good service when business picks up.) My daughter's salad never got delivered. My drink sat empty a couple times while waiting for our server to come back to the area where we were seated. We were lucky our server checked back at all. I liked the vibe. I liked the food. And, I liked the staff. I suspect I'll be back. I will just make sure I'm not in a hurry, and I won't have high expectations for exemplary performance! read more

Stopped into Calvert's in the Heights with my wife and grabbed seats at the bar. One of the few British-style pubs in the area, and it delivers on exactly what you want from that kind of place. We split the pub burger and a bologna sandwich (yes, really), plus a couple cocktails. Everything hit the mark with solid food, good drinks, and friendly service without being over the top. The vibe is relaxed and comfortable, the kind of place you can settle into for a bit. Only knock is parking: it's tight, so plan accordingly. However the accompanying Yorkshire Pudding - "cold" and rubbery.....please do not serve this again to my British heritage chef wife! (Likely held too long, perhaps steamed to warm, definitely not fresh-out-of--the-oven.) Desserts (we took home in 2Go boxes): Key Lime pie....nah. A bit short on that tangy lime flavor we expected. Sticky Toffee Pudding....yes, yes, yes. Tender, moist, sponge with host of flavors and topped with an (optional) thin caramel sauce. Really excellent sans sauce. We went on Mother's Day after a movie and the only bad spots were that the service at the bar was slow and inattentive. I love Calvert's though, the food is amazing and the drinks are phenomenal. Usually the service is great too but maybe this was just a shift change or an instance of people wishing they were celebrating with their families? We needed to wait quite awhile for anyone to greet us, we needed to remind the bartenders several times about our orders and/or what we needed in order to be able to eat our ordered food (like silverware) - again, this doesn't fit with normal standards here but it's worth mentioning. My husband and I live down the road from Calvert's and used to love eating here when we had guests in town or for brunch on Sundays, but have been very disappointed with service the last two visits we've made. We came in July for dinner around 8:30pm with a group of friends and waited more than 10 minutes to be greeted, more than 20 minutes to get drinks, and another 20 min for an opportunity to place appetizer orders. We were only checked on twice for drink refill requests during what wound up being a 2 hour dinner. Returned again in August on a Friday at lunch time with very low seating volume and ample staff visible on the floor (even what looked like two managerial staff making rounds) and waited 15 min without being greeted at our booth before getting up and walking out. Calvert's is still a great spot to pop in for a drink at the bar (we've always had a positive experience from the bartenders in the bar area), the atmosphere and food are good, but would recommend dining cautiously if you're looking for typical service times in the dining room. Wish our experience was different, but we won't be returning for lunch or dinner with the other excellent restaurant options in Pensacola. read more

It was a Saturday night they didn't seem too very busy and I was a solo diner so I was sat at a very sad little table in the back. Guess if you're alone you don't rate high on the list lol. Bigger table bigger tips. It was dressed for Christmas so it was cute. Food was just so so was not that impressed my fries were cold but so no one check on me for awhile it was too late to send them back I had a sandwich and the meat was very salty I ate 1/2 took the other half home. Server was very nice but like I said when your just one your not as important as full tables. Price was kind of high for the amount and quality of the food. Family friendly, unique decor and notable views. My friends said it gave them "backyard" vibes sitting outside. Walked in without reservation on a Saturday evening, waited about 30 min for a picnic table. Brought our pups! If you remember one thing from this review- bring a light jacket. Just bring it. Even if it says 85 degrees, the breeze from the bay will cool you right off (as well as your food). Which is one downside- eat quickly because your hot dish won't last long if you sit outside off the porch. We all LOVED the fried pickles, ranch and just devoured the beer cheese pretzel. I would return just for those items again. The low point for the night was ordering our entrees at 6:54pm, came out at 7:56pm. 3 people. The kindness of our server Ian saved the 4th star here, as he kept our drinks filled and checked on us the perfect amount. He apologized for the length of time we waited and told us he had prompted his manager about it. He was just awesome. My partner said the fish and chips were phenomenal. I was a little more disappointed with my crab stuffed grouper.. it was so salty. It came with shrimp-just okay. But the taste of salt was overwhelming and it certainly wasn't a fresh aftertaste. We finally made it to Calvert's a few weeks ago and have already been back twice. Calvert's is an English Pub style restaurant with soldi pub cuisine and ta bar food. The location is stunning with an amazing view of Escambia Bay and plenty of outdoor seating. The staff is eager and energetic and strives to keep you happy. First off, Calvert's has arguably the best Prime Rib/French Dip in the Pensacola area, but their burgers, shepherd's pie, and Rueben (called the "Mrs." at Calvert are all very good as well. Calvert's is worth a visit if you haven't visited before. It's definitely in our regular restaurant rotation. read more
