Very nice somewhat upscale place with a rotating menu. We were visiting and walked in and the restaurant was apparently booked inside due to reservations but we were seated quickly outside on their sidewalk patio. Our waitress was very attentive and very friendly and was helpful with recommendations. We got pork rinds and boiled peanuts for appetizers and both were great! The pork rinds came with a house hot sauce which were delicious. All of our entrees were delicious. My scallops were perfectly cooked and not sandy at all. My husband's pork shank was huge and super tasty. My parents both got the brisket sandwich and the cornbread was stellar! Great place and we'll be back if we visit Pensacola again. read more

I visited Union Public House yesterday at 5:50 PM and was extremely disappointed with the service. I've eaten here before and have never had an experience like this. I was seated in the middle of the bar with customers on both sides of me. My server took my drink and food order, and after that, she never returned to check on me. I watched her walk past me several times while attending to the customers directly to my left and right. Not once did she ask how my food was, whether I needed another drink, a box, or my check. Eventually, another server noticed my frustration and asked if I needed anything. I told him I needed a box and my check and explained that my server had never returned to check on me. His response was, "We are all working the bar." That response was unnecessary and dismissive. If everyone was working the bar, it makes it even more confusing that I sat there for so long without anyone checking on me. A simple, "I'm sorry about that. Let me take care of you," would have been the appropriate response. I understand restaurants get busy, and I don't expect perfection. However, basic attentiveness and customer service should be expected, especially when a customer is sitting directly at the bar. Unfortunately, this experience was very disappointing. read more

While I had the intent of eating light, I fell of the wagon and had a Hot Honey Smash Burger and Pimento Cheese Pups. The Smash Burger was flavor-packed. The Pups with the Pimento Cheese were good (Next time I will add a few drops of Crystal Hot Sauce to each ball to add spice). This was our 1st time here. I've wanted to try it for a while because I heard the cornbread was amazing. I'm a bread lover. We ordered the Beef Carpaccio for an appetizer and it was light and very delicious. I had the sea bass which came with mushroom risotto and it had several small acorn squash. It was very tasty and I couldn't finish it, large portions. My hubs had the pecan crusted salmon and he loved it. I don't care for salmon but tried it and it was really good. Not fishy tasting. We got a side of cornbread of course and it is definitely worth a try. It comes with honey and butter. It's not a traditional cornbread but more of a cake cornbread. We also had a side of the collard greens which were seasoned well and if you like collards I would try for sure. Even tho we were both full we ordered a dessert, coconut cream pie w/mango sorbet. If you love very expensive but mediocre food, drink and service, this place is definitely for you. On glowing recommendation of several bartenders and waiters in the area, we decided to try it. We arrived and the front staff didn't say hello or greet us, they asked if we had a reservation. We did not. We were told we could sit outside in the heat and wait for 25-30 minutes on waitstaff or sit at the bar. We opted for the bar even though pretty evident the air conditioning was barely working inside. We order the pimento cheese pups. We were very excited to try. As a born and raised Southerner, I was excited to try. It was just fair to middling at best. It was sweet and didn't have any pimento cheese flavor to it. There was some commercial processed cheese shreds underneath that added nothing to the dish. It was so uninspired that we chose not to order anything else. I sat at the bar on Gallery Night to try a beverage and food item. The place was packed and I was lucky to get a seat! The bartenders were slammed, but still attentive and kind. I ordered a non-alcoholic beverage called Sultry Rhythm - a pink drink in a salty rimmed glass - and it felt like a tasty little margarita. The restaurant was bustling with a variety of booth, table, and high top seating. Bathrooms were in the back and had a nice message. The seabass was recommended by the bartender (I think his name was Fong? Couldn't hear him well) and he knocked it out of the park with that rec. If you go on a Saturday night U suggest reservations. That was the first thing we were asked. But we were accommodated since we didn't. Also forgot it was Saturday and we had been traveling. So may have been a tad under dressed. But that being said this is a must go to place! Our server was super friendly and very knowledgeable about the menu. I had the seared tuna OMG!! All of the flavors melded; the tuna was seared perfectly and not fatty. My husband got the smash burger which I tried to talk him out of because it had foie Gras on it... but didn't listen to me and was not a fan of his food. He tried mine and was upset he doesn't step outside his comfort zone for food. The kitchen is an open concept and makes for a fun environment to the restaurant. The Bar is great. With the bar comes the conversations. Great talent for both. Then the sit down. You sit at a table that has awesome presence. The menu, perfect in content and in the selection size. I have a hard time deviation from a menus item when it is so good and the fried chicken is that menu item, a southern staple. When plate comes to the table it clucks of perfection. Also, the meatloaf was competition for Momma. I've never had a bad meal there. That's is a weak comment on the meals. Our 2nd day in Florida and we wanted to explore Pensacola! But first, lunch! Union Public House was on our radar when we initially flew into Florida and had to make plans to come by to eat. It was a bummer as when we drove in, it started to rain so we got soaked running in the rain but luckily dried off at the restaurant and hung out while we waited out the rain. We had heard Union Public House was known for their Scotch Eggs so of course we placed an order of those along with a good mix of light bites since we weren't crazy hungry but wanted to snack on something. The only thing we regretted ordering was the cookie jar. It was very lackluster and disappointing- a huge jar comes out but there's only 8 mini sized cookies that you can't share with everyone. The tartar and korean wings were my favorite food items we ordered. The Creme brulee was of course delicious as well! The drinks were very delicious! Our server, was not as knowledgeable about drinks so he invited us to talk to the bartender but he gave great recommendations of food on the menu for us to try! He had also mentioned to us that he was new to the area, had only just moved to Florida with his wife within the last year so he was still finding and exploring Florida but gave us great suggestions of where to visit after we finished eating, hitting up bars and walking down the streets of Pensacola! We definitely plan to come back and visit again should we ever visit the area. Great for all group sizes! read more

Unfortunately, the side salad was a letdown: just plain spring mix with three lonely cucumber slices--not much thought or effort there. This restaurant is a staple for us. Great food, drinks and vibe. The pork shank is life changing. The bramble is perfection. Service is usually pretty good. The mushroom toast app is my absolute favorite. I am hoping they bring back the watermelon burrata salad for summer. Highly recommend making a reservation as this place books up quick. My only compliant is that the square tables that they constantly seat 4 people at are absolutely too small. It's uncomfortable constantly trying to move things around the table. Ok first up, cocktails. This place has solid cocktails. I tried both the spicy watermelon margarita and the "5 am Nights" - and both were very tasty!! They also offer mocktails, wine, and beer. I tried the beef fillet carpaccio for an app- it was fresh and full of flavor. The meat was a little thicker cut than usual, had a flavor profile similar to roast beef. Loved the fried capers and garlic aioli on the dish. For dinner I tried the 5 hour sous vide and grilled tri-tip with crispy potato duck hash. The steak was cooked to a perfect medium rare (as requested), was juicy, and very tender. The hash was properly scattered- thin and crispy, with a mouth-watering condiment "smothered" on top. I absolutely loved this dish!!! I also sampled my partner's crispy confit duck leg and thought the duck was cooked very well. Beautiful presentation on every single dish, and great-sized portions. The outside "patio" left something to be longed for (very basic tables, no lights or decorations). No ambiance or vibe outside at all (we sat outside because we had our dog with us). Service here was phenomenal. Our waiter was really friendly and very helpful with the menu. He was willing to substitute ANYTHING out on any of the dishes (rare to find these days). Really good food and interesting menu. We were not very hungry so we stayed with appetizers only. The pork skins were really good. The came out still sizzling. They also have a house made hot sauce to go with it, and the sauce made them even better. Next we had the Frito Pie. This is a lunch size bag of Fritos cut open, covered with pork butt, cheese, sour cream, sauce and jalapeños. Very good. Finally we had the pimento pups. These are hushpuppies served with pimento cheese. The hushpuppies were a little more dense than I prefer- mine are crispy in the outside soft in the middle and very light. The pimento cheese went well with them, and they were really good when we added some of the hot sauce to the hushpuppies. Neat vibe, cool atmosphere. Our server was great and helped us figure out what we wanted. Also, we got a strawberry lemonade and it was super as well. All of the juices that are used in the restaurant and bar are squeezed fresh daily and you could tell. read more

I came home for a visit around Christmas time last year, and I made it a point to try new places. Union Public House has been receiving many awards from local publications, so I had to come and see what the hype was all about. We came for lunch, and were astounded by how beautiful and open the dining room was. Spacious booths and large windows letting in the beautiful sunlight and the views of beautiful downtown Pensacola. We started chatting up our super friendly server and got his opinions about what the best items on the menu were. We started with drinks, of course, and I was delighted to see they had some specialty mocktails. Not just juices mixed together, but real stuff. I had the Dry 75 (Ritual N/A Gin | Blackberry Champange Shrubb | Lemon | Bubbles), and it was lovely. A little dry, a little tart, some bubbles. Very sippable. Then, it was time for food. First, the app, the Pimento Cheese Pups (Hushpuppies, House Pimento Cheese, Honey, Chives). Oh Lord, these were Amazing. Very crispy hushpuppies that weren't dry at all, perfectly cooked, but even if they were dry, the complete slathering of honey and the huge dollop of flavorful pimento cheese. This was just the perfect, southern app. Do recommend. Then it was time for the mains. I had a salmon dish that I can't find online anymore, which I love, because it shows they keep their menu up to date and seasonal. But anyway, the dish was delicious. The salmon was cooked So perfectly, and that skin on top was So crisp. Gordon Ramsay would have been proud. Other components of the dish were scattered about the plate, letting you customize each lovely bite. I also got to try the Wild Boar Sloppy Joe (Pickled Peppers, Crispy Onions, Fried Sage). This was out of this world. I love the flavor of wild boar. If you've never had it, I can't describe it. But it's good. Acid from the peppers, texture from the onions, try your best to eat this as a sandwich, but you'll need to break out the knife and fork. Fun, elevated, delicious. Overall, I'm gonna be honest with you, I didn't know Pensacola had food like this. I knew that they food that was a step above this, but this high end, easily assessible stuff tastes like stuff you find in downtowns of big cities. Amazing. Five stars. I will come back. read more

Since it was lunch we did not get drinks but will come back soon after 5 to check this place out for a snack and a drink. . Ordered beer salad and the braised short rib burger. Send to be a fairly legit spot. Kitchen is enormous and fully visible. 2-4 is bar area only after 4 pm the restaurant is fully open for all seating. There are a lot of tables on the street for outside dining under the porch with huge fans. So as we're eating our lunch, the bartenders are hand, cutting all of the cocktail ice cubes the big rocks . Amazing. So the short rib burger is awesome. It comes with like fried kale on top of it beautiful mustard sauce, tomato, and then the short rib is actually inside the burger amazing. This place is really unique! I went with a couple of coworkers on a Tuesday night. The service was pretty good, couple of times we ran low on drinks, but on average very good service. I had the duck fat old fashioned and the Aubela Old Fashioned. Both were very good. Now on to the important part, the food! We started with the Pimento Pups and Scotch egg. The pups were sinful. They were fried to soft yet crispy perfection and the pimento cheese was really good as well. This was honestly the best Scotch Egg I have ever had in the US. The aioli they serve with it was really a perfect match. I had the McFoie Smashburger with sweet potato fries for my entree. Burger was well cooked and the Foie Gras was a tasty addition. Our guy was so nice and helped us pick out our meals. The food was insane. Such a great combination of elevated classics with decent portion sizes. Can't say enough about this place.
