I am so happy a friend of mine recommended Mr. Chu to me for my son. I had already paid AAA for the online and behind the wheel training. Once my son got his permit, I called AAA to get the behind the wheel training done. Now because of covid , they are closed, and even when they do reopen we are basically in line to get him scheduled. (We were looking at months) I called International Driving School and he was able to get him scheduled the following week, including finishing all 3 trainings. (While being covid compliant) My son had a great experience, he loved Eric, always coming home to tell me how fun his instructor made it, while teaching him everything he needed to know. I know this review is going to be a long story, but it's my experience hehe. I attended another driving school before this school (I called A school), but the time to help me practice is minimal. I was very stressed since the A school instructor moved my test day into the next month. He always tells me that I still need more practice, but he always busy with other students and don't even call me or text me to ask if I'm free or not. Even that, he always tells me to be ready when he is on his way to my house but not asking me first. And other stuff, but I don't want to say it (if you want to know more, just text me lol). Then I looked up at Yelp and found this school, and then I got helped from Mr. Chu and instructor Park. And yes, instructor Park helped me a lot, and I see the improvement from that. Thanks to instructor Park for helped me practice on his car and tell me the right and wrong thing. And I got more confident after 3 days of driving with him. So, many many thanks to Mr. Chu (helped me finding a instructor) and instructor Park (helped me driving and fixing my problem). read more

100% recommended! If you need to learn to drive, I can't think of a better school/instructor than Mr. Chu. I took driving lessons with Mr. Chu and passed on my first try. Mr. Chu is very easy going, nice, super encouraging, and great at explaining how to do some of the more technical things like parallel parking. You can tell based on his quick and easy explanations that he really knows what's he's doing. Some of the things I thought was above and beyond: Mr. Chu made sure I had all the paperwork and admin stuff taken care of too, for the exam. He also listened carefully to what I had to say and tailored our lessons around my feedback and concerns. I hardly even know how to format this because there were so many issues with this school, so bare with me. The first time I met up with the owner of the school to discuss beginning my lessons, he said I would have the same instructor each lesson, talking about how important it was and how it helped them get a better understanding of my strengths and weaknesses, as well as what I needed to work on in order to get my license. I had four lessons, each lesson with different instructors who were all clueless as to what I had previously learned and what areas I needed help with. During my third lesson I was still relatively new to driving and the instructor made me go on the freeway even though I expressed that I was uncomfortable with it. As I was trying to explain to her that I was still learning to drive, she told me to stop complaining. She made me pick up her next student halfway through my lesson and the poor kid had to sit in the back for over an hour. Of all the instructors I had during my lessons, there was only one who wasn't constantly on his phone. I'm not sure if it's normal for driving instructors to be constantly texting and checking Facebook, but I believe that jobs such as theirs are dangerous and require more attention than the instructors at the International Driving School were willing to give. As they were making an appointment for my DMV test, they realized my permit had been expired since before I even started taking lessons. I had to go back to the DMV and redo the whole permit process all over again, which kind of sucked but wasn't that big of a deal. However they should've realized it when I gave them my permit the day I came to register for lessons. They gave me a date for my test after I renewed my permit, but didn't give me an appointment code or time. As my DMV date was coming up, I tried to get in contact with the school with no success. I texted them on two separate days and got left on read. This led me to believe that they don't truly give a crap about their students, tossing then aside after their paid lessons were over. The day before my test was scheduled, I had to go to the driving school in person, just to ask for my code and appointment time. They told me they had already rescheduled it to the next month and probably wouldn't have even bothered telling me if I didn't show up at the school. Also, the instructor just completely forgot about one of the lessons and as a result, promised me an extra hour added on to my 6. When I came in to ask for my code, she essentially denied giving me an extra hour, even though I had texts of her saying yes. During my last lesson, the instructor (that day it was the owner of the business teaching me) had me drive to his next student's house and I got in the back seat. As she was walking to the car, he made remarks to me about how pretty she was. While she was driving me home, he was constantly complimenting her driving skills and excessively displaying his approval physically, such as rubbing her shoulder or patting her back every time she did something right. It didn't really mean much to me, as asian culture is different and sometimes slightly strange. However, I can understand how some people might not appreciate and misinterpret such behavior. Needless to say, choosing this school is a misuse of money and there are plenty of other driving schools to consider. read more

I would really recommend this school to anyone who needs to go to driving school. I found International Driving School by asking a question on an Orange County forum for a cheap but good driving school. I went on their website and saw that it was $210 for 6 hours of driving class in Irvine area and that it's around 10 dollars cheaper in a location closer to Garden Grove. International Driving School is a bargain compared to other schools, especially in Irvine. Eric, my instructor and I believe the owner was super awesome, easy going, and funny. He lets you know what you're doing wrong and really encourages you to fix it before the drivers test. The day after my last class with Eric, I passed the drivers exam! I drove with Kim, very nice dude. International Driving School is excellent, I just finished my 6 hours of training with them today. $195 total if you live in their area. Kim, my instructor, was very informative, an excellent teacher. The school's cars have dual pedals and brakes so they can stop you if you do anything wrong, which is a plus. I've been coming here ever since I was in high school and they've been assisting me for about 10 years now starting with learning to drive, learning to drive manual, and with all the traffic school I have accumulated. Eric is very genuine and honest and this is the reason why I keep coming back although every time I visit it comes with a nice hefty ticket from the CHP/Police/Sheriffs. A very good school. Mr.Chu was very kind and understanding to my novice driving and pointed out my mistakes. Took me out to a drive way and was able to schedule appointments ahead of time that fit your schedule. The experience was also fun as well because while learning to drive he also drove you to many places such as Seal Beach, Long Beach, etc. The cars have dual pedals on the side so you don't have to worry to much about making mistakes because they can correct you and stop you. 3 6-Hour lessons for $195. I had Kim as my instructor. With the lessons I had with him, they were alright. Honestly, I wasn't the best driver (I mean who is when they first start their lessons right?). However, he made quite rude remarks when I was driving, it was very uncomfortable and rude. He would say "OMG" in a way where he sounded he's super done or annoyed with me. He asked me if I know how to count to 3, said "I think you only know how to count to 2.". He made fun about my driving and laughed about it. I feel so bad about my driving and I honestly hated having lessons with him. I didn't look forward to them at all. I learned reverse in last lesson, but it was only for about 5 minutes. Most of the time we just turned, changed lanes, yielded, and stopped in neighborhoods or streets. I didn't learn how to go on the freeway or park... I would only take up this driving school if you're looking for a cheap BTW lessons and also if you're used to people yelling or having you feel bad about yourself. read more
