The gentlemen that work the counter are also great and always willing to help you out to the car if you find your hands are full.

I popped in to the store last night while I was waiting for my sushi order to be ready for takeout just down the road. Imagine my unbridled delight when I saw a section of the refrigerated wines labeled as "Wine For Sushi & Spicy!" I actually laughed out loud. Precisely what I was looking for, & didn't even need to ask. I went with a Grüner Veltliner & it was, as expected, delicious with my sushi. The next day, I received a call from Curtis informing me that unfortunately they do not have Le Berceau Blanquette de Limoux Brut in store, but they were putting in an order and can let me know when it arrives. I was not in a rush so I informed Curtis that I can wait. 8 days later, Curtis texted me that the Le Berceau Blanquette de Limoux Brut was in. I walked in and I informed the cashier that I was here to pickup an online order. Curtis was also behind the counter and he jumped in and asked are you Stephanie? I said "Yes! That's me." He said he got a whole case in so I purchased another bottle. The next time I was at Campus Fine Wines was for a Yelp event. Most recently, I went back to purchase a bottle of one of the wines we tasted at the Yelp experience. I was looking around the store for the bottle and Howard approached me and asked if I needed help with anything. I said I was looking for the Benito Santos Saiar Albarino 2023. He showed me exactly where the bottles were. All the staff at Campus Fine Wines are really friendly and welcoming. Campus Fine Wines has a great selection and I trust them to have good wines.

One can certainly find significantly larger selection at liquor superstores in Warwick or Attleboro, and if you are looking for exotic wines or champagnes then you probably would be much happier at those places, but Murphy's does have a surprisingly wide selection of certain items packed into a compact space. Murphy's holds its own with sake, mead, and other less in-demand beverages that small stores typically ignore because they are quite a lot smaller and quite a lot more expensive, and Murphy's best competes as an alternative to those. As a practical matter, if I'm buying a bottle of table wine to bring as a dinner guest or something of that sort, I'm more likely to buy it from Murphy's than from anywhere else because of good prices and convenient location.

While having dinner at Doherty's we did a mental inventory of the beer fridge at home and realized we didn't have enough to make it through a Bruins playoff game. I love a place with a good selection and Yelp says that this place has it. I suppose, if you're comparing Murphy's to your average neighborhood liquor store then their selection is pretty decent. But this is no Chris Gasparo's or Yankee Spirits. If you want selection then you need to go to one of the big guys. The selection here is simply above average. The big issue with this place is that it's dirty. Yes, that's in part due to the trashy folks you get walking in and out. While we were there two girl size 26 girls wearing size 6 spandex waltzed in. At one point they simultaneously bent over causing layers of flab to cascade over their skimpy clothing. It was the stuff that nightmares are made of. But the customers aren't the real issue. People watching in Pawtucket is actually one of my favorite hobbies. The problem is that the place itself is just plain dirty. There's one spot with a crumpled up fleece on the floor that's meant to capture water from the dripping roof. Every cooler was covered in grime. The whole place is just dingy. Not to mention, the layout is clumsy. The beer is in three completely different corners of the store. Look, I get it. I don't like my neighborhood liquor store either and I don't give it a shitty score on Yelp because I still go there on a regular basis. It's in my neighborhood and it's convenient. But let's be honest here, this place is really ghetto. If I lived across the street then I'd get my beer there, but I wouldn't like it. Since I don't live in the area I sure as hell won't be back.

That is a sort of extreme case ... but on average expect to pay $10 more for any bottle of liquor ... and $4 - $5 more for any 6 pack of craft beer than any other store in the area. Forget about comparing this place to a Total Wine, you can literally save 40% on most items shopping there vs. here. I honestly don't think I've ever seen prices this high on liquor/wine ... Not in midtown Manhattan. Not in my home of West Hollywood, CA. I won't be totally brutish ... they do have a very nicely curated selection of wines and spirits here. You aren't going to find any allocated items here ... No Weller, No Blanton's, No Pappy, etc. but they have a decent selection of bourbon, spirits and a huge amount of pre-mixed cocktails and mixers. They have craft beer ... local and far away brands ... fancy ciders, saki and other interesting but niche selections of expensive single craft bottles. The store is immaculately clean and organized well. It may be the most expensive liquor store I've ever been in but it's also maybe the most well organized. The staff isn't particularly interested in going out of their way to help you. But, if you ask them a question about wines, etc. they will make some good recommendations if they aren't too busy doing something else. I will end by saying that I was in a rush to buy liquor and wine for a dinner party that my house hosts were having. I wasn't looking too carefully at the receipt because I figured everything was just so expensive, it is what it is. However, when I got home, I found out one of the bottles I bought must have been put in the wrong place. They charged me $84 for a bottle that costs $59 anywhere else. It was next to a sign that said $65. For 8 bottles of liquor and wine and a 4-pack of craft beer, I paid more than I did for my first car in 2005. Not even kidding.
