Quiet, peaceful, shaded wide open pull through site with 50 amp FHU right across from the pool. Packed gravel site is pretty level, with grass all around. There was a huge ahade tree overhead which helped with the overhead sun the afternoon of our arrival. A picnic table on a concrete pad. All connections are within a few feet of each other, and the water pressure was good. Hidden away in the mountains of southern VA, is a great lake with water that looked crystal clear! You can paddleboat, kayak, canoe and swim! The swim spot is more than twice the size of Lake Anna State Park. And surrounded by the beautiful mountains. I hiked the 6 miles around the lake with the stop off ay Molly's Knob. It's gorgeous! I had preplanned this trip to see these parks down here many months ago. While, I camped in a tent at Claytor Lake, I rented a Yurt for two nights here at Hungary Mother. I've never stayed in a Yurt before and I loved it! It was hot though, don't get me wrong. That Yurt was like a volcano tube all day and 1/2 the night. Luckily I was gone during the daytime and due to location, around 3am to 6am it wasn't very hot at all. LoL. Mountains make the difference! The Yurt was spacious and lovely. I'll rent again in the future. Employees were nice. Gift shop was amazing. Unlike most other state parks, this one had long trails. Like I said, one was 6 miles..usually, at other parks, they have .5 and .9 mile trails that you peice together to make a 6 mile trail. Those who've been, know what I mean. My favorite VA State Park is Sky Meadows. Perfect for me and only 25 min from my house. Hungry Mother is second place winner for me!! Love it!

The site was level. We did have to use a longer hose for water connection. There are a number of "permanent" residents and some of their sites could have been better maintained. There is an area behind the park for tent camping that has a pretty creek with some picnic and play areas. Some mention highway noise but it didn't bother us. We camped at Pioneer Village Campground in a Fifth Wheel. There is nothing to do in Max Meadows but we weren't looking for that. Wytheville is a short drive and has everything you could need. The Log Cabin 1776 restaurant is a must as well as Skeeters if you like hot dogs. We made a trip to Bristol and really enjoyed hanging out for the day.

The park is designed so that each lot has the creek behind it. Right outside my window I have a beautiful view and a lovely sound to fall asleep to. Each spot has its own picnic table and a nice level gravel ground. It also is in walking distance to the Virginia Creeper Trail! If you don't know what that is, check it out! Another fabulous thing about this park was that my Verizon Cell service was clear enough to stream television online from abc.go.com. YAY! You will need to have your own bathroom and be fully self contained in your vehicle. The price is affordable! I don't ever use all the stuff that KOA's and resorts have... but end up paying for all of it. This is nice because it has a little more of a "camp" feeling and you don't have to sacrifice your whole months paycheck. LASTLY - Damascus is SUPER friendly! EVERYONE says hello when they walk by. Seriously, 1 out of every 50 people say, "hi, how are ya?" And check out the Blue Blaze Cafe... surprisingly good food in such a small town. Burger is dee-lish! OH and one last thing! I came for Trail Days but ended up staying a whole month. I pretty much have the whole place to myself, too! It's super relaxing and sorta nestled behind a quiet little neighborhood street. The walk into town is about 15-30 min depending on how fast or where you want to go. It's a pleasant, safe, and pretty walk. I wish there were more parks like this all over. I have a 22ft sprinter van conversion, by the way.

There is a nice little creek running next to some of the sites. It is a short walk to the New River. We saw several people enjoying the river just wading in and some fishing. WI-FI was great- best we have had in a park yet. The owner Tom was great helping people in and out of their spots if they needed it. If I had to pick a negative- no camp fires - but it was worth not having one to stay in this beautiful place with great scenery. We didn't do it but they have river rafting and kayak rentals down the road. Saw lots of people enjoy that.

We arrived Friday approximately 5 PM after a long down the road due to a few stops and heavy traffic, not to mention the terrain, after departing St. George, South Carolina. We were happy that they offered a military discount. Overall, this is a very beautiful park. Extremely well-kept! Yes, the spaces are a little tight if 100% filled however, I certainly didn't see anywhere, as mentioned by another reviewer, a sewer hook up 36 inches from a fire pit. They also offer a nice little café and sundry shop in their office. My wife and I had some of their breakfast pizza as well as a lunch pizza and chicken wings. All three were absolutely delicious! There is a small pool for children as well as a splash area. Additionally, there's a rather novel putt putt golf and gem mining area. In addition to RV spaces there are small apartments and large apartments. There are a number of long-term residents at the majority are short term rental. We liked it so much. We bookmarked it for a future stop if we're passing through the area. Keep up the great work!
