I called several places the week of my wedding and everyone was booked... The only salon that called back (Twelve Stones Salon) and the gentleman recommended Intrinsic... I called and the receptionist was super nice... she put me on hold to ask if anyone was available to do my hair and a few seconds later she excitedly said yes Carlos Adame would do my hair! When I walked in that Saturday first appointment of the day... I was greeted by a very friendly receptionist... he showed me around and told me about the art on the wall being from local artists! The decor was modern and eclectic full of life and beauty... I felt like I was walking into a New York hair salon... it was snazzy and gorgeous! Carlos was so thrilled to meet me and just made me feel gorgeous from the very start. He listened to exactly what I has envisioned and looked at the Pinterest photos I shared with him. He was very honest with me from the start reminding me that my hair being as short as it is and the girls in the photos had extensions... but he said he would do his best... AND WOW! Without extensions he designed my wedding hair EXACTLY like the photos! Carlos is not only talented but he and I became best friends instantaneously! If you are going to Christopher...He does a great job if you want a bob hair style, or possibly a older woman's "jazzy" hair cut. For me my last cut and color was atrocious! Went to my car and cried. He didn't even offer to fix it. I had to go buy a wig to even be comfortable in public until it grew out. There are quit a few salons in Fresno/Clovis out there. Owned by my go-to hairstylist (even though I live in Hawaii) Christopher and his partner Lawrence, Intrinsic is your typical boutique salon. You can probably imagine it now, with its quirky but cohesive decor and the scent of hair product in the air, chatty customers, and complimentary coffee, tea, or water. The atmosphere preps you for the new hour or two you'll spend with the kindest staff you'll meet, doing the best work you can imagine on your hair. Again, Christopher is such a talented man that I set aside time on my yearly trips home to ensure that my hair is done by the one person I truly trust with it. He is a /hoot/ to talk to, and I've always let him have free reign of my hair with some direction (i.e., please cover my greys and keep the length), and he never ceases to amaze me with how beautiful it looks afterward. If you are considering extensions I strongly suggest the waterfall hand tied extensions that I am wearing in my pictures. I have worn tape ins, beaded and now finally went with hand tied. They don't damage my hair and can be placed anywhere you want. If you want a shorter look then you can move them up higher on the head. If you want long hair then they can be placed lower on your scalp. If you wear high ponytails or buns in your hair you won't see anything. For us gym rats that's a bonus. I've been going to Lawrence for my hair cuts for years and he does an excellent job. I won't trust anyone else with my hair and I always receive lots of compliments on my hair. I love his new salon - very welcoming and fun. The services here aren't cheap but I'm willing to pay them because the outcome is so great. I've never been disappointed by my cut or color. My one and only compliant is he is ALWAYS LATE FOR THE APPOINTMENT. It makes me angry EVERY SINGLE TIME and each time I consider going somewhere else but because he does such a good job with my hair, I keep returning. (In all fairness, this seems to be a problem with hair salons in general because before I started going to Lawrence, I had issues elsewhere too.) I understand that he may get behind schedule but since this is a habitual problem, some changes need to be implemented. For example, schedule each appointments longer so have that extra time that's needed. What I'd really appreciate is a phone call in advance telling me that he's running late so I don't have to get off work early to be there on time. An appointment is not a suggestion, it's a commitment. I'm always on time and I expect him to be too. That's called professionalism and courtesy. I'm being harsh in this review because I want his business to be successful and I want to keep going there but if this continues, I'll look for somewhere else to go. This problem needs to be addressed and fixed. I know I'm not his only client who gets frustrated. One time, I came in and he was still working on another client's hair. I sat there for 40 minutes and his client who was after me came in and I hadn't even been seated. A laugh and an insincere "sorry" doesn't do much to soothe the anger that we were both feeling. He almost lost 2 customers that night. When I go to get my hair done, I'm looking for a relaxing and enjoyable experience and instead, I'm seething with anger and resentment and stressing about how long this is taking because I have other things to do. read more
