I'm very happy about this. I had neglected my physical fitness for almost a decade and I was staring to see and feel it. I had never tried personal training before, but based on past experience, I knew that to make a long-term positive change in my fitness, I should seriously consider this option. When I first showed up, I discussed my goals with James, and he set me up with Brett as a personal trainer. Brett paid keen attention to my history and goals. At the time he left Portland, a year later, I was very happy with my increased fitness and confidence in my physical abilities. Brett and I also became friends. When Brett left, Tammie transitioned me over to Martin who was just starting there. At first I wasn't sure of this transition, as Martin's style differed from that of Brett's, but over the next few weeks I came to appreciate Martin's style of personal training. He too, paid keen attention to where I was coming from and what my goals were. I highly recommend him. When Brett or Martin weren't available occasionally, I trained with Tammie and Juniper. Those sessions were also great. I consider everyone at Whole Body Fitness to be very professional, knowledgeable, and thoughtful. Now, as I head out of Portland for extended travel, I'll miss training at Whole Body Fitness, but I expect that the habits and knowledge I've gained will support my fitness goals wherever I go.

After the first week, I was hungry for nourishing foods like beef and spinach. I was a lot less moody and more confident. Second week, I surprised myself: was my younger self and younger muscles still there? She was and fighting! Third week clothes felt better, fit better, and long bike rides were easier for me. I've been working out with Heather for over a month now and already I've seen incredible changes in…read moremy body. I was first introduced to Heather during the Booty Luv class at ME Fitness. After the first class I was hooked. Booty Luv is an awesome combination of dance, Pilates, yoga (plus some other stuff). It is SO fun, the hour flies by. There is upbeat music and an exciting atmosphere. Throughout the workout she explains what area you're working and why. It's an incredible work out that burns fat & builds lean muscle but also helps with flexibility and stability. (Which I need all of!) Heather's X Cycling classes and Pilates classes at ME are also highly recommended! The X Cycling class is cool because it's 30 minutes of cycling and 30 minutes of light weights, an effective way to spend an hour. I have worked with Heather as a personal trainer as well recently and it was a positive experience. She really listened to what I was hoping to accomplish and took into account that I had a lower back injury and had not worked out in a while. With that she created a personalized program that I'm still following, even after I had completed all my sessions. Heather's knowledge and communication style is topnotch. Back in October, I was experiencing some health problems like high weight, high cholesterol, headaches, joint pain, etc. that were becoming a concern. Some health consultant friends suggested going on the "Hunter-Gatherer" diet and getting more exercise instead of my doctor's suggestion of various drugs. I looked for a personal trainer as I knew that I would need one to get a program going properly and stay with it. After interviewing several people, I figured out that I just didn't relate well to the intense, chirpy people or the boot camp, drill instructor types. Also, some of the gyms that I looked at were just not appealing with their crowds, messiness, and/or smells. Then I found Kyla through the JCCSF Pilates Studio (she also works with Bodywork SF). What a breath of calm, fresh air. Kyla is a genuinely nice person whose fitness training is informed by an extensive dance background. She does personal training, nutrition counseling, and Pilates. Her style is to guide and be attentive rather than intense and be gently persistent rather than fierce or in-your-face. A workout with her leaves me feeling centered and calm as well as thoroughly stretched and exercised. It turned out that I needed a combination of Pilates (for flexibility and core strength) and traditional strength training which means that she has to blend several workout styles into the time we have. The JCCSF Pilates Studio has the machines (Pilates and Cable) necessary to do this, but she has also shown me exercises to do at home where we have minimal equipment. The results speak for themselves. In 2 months, I feel much better and am on my way to a toned core and increased strength overall. So far, I have lost 14 lbs and 3" from my waist. My headaches and joint problems are gone. Update: The past 8 months have gone by very quickly as Kyla is always keeping our workouts fresh and interesting. I have now lost 26 lbs and 4" from my waist. If you are looking for a personal trainer who will listen to you, tailor a training program to your needs, and help you attain your goals, then I think that you should talk to Kyla.

I broke 22 bones…read more(the worst being my pelvis and kneecap), and he broke his thighbone (the femur, which is the longest and strongest bone in the body), so even after the bones healed, we had some serious muscle weakness to work on. After some physical therapy, I figured we'd just gradually regain normal strength over time, but my husband wanted to go to a trainer, and he was right. Allison has really helped speed up our recovery. She uses her knowledge of physiology and movement to create workouts that target areas we need to work on, and we've seen a huge difference in our strength and flexibility over the months we've been working with her. Multiple friends and acquaintances have commented that they'd never know how badly we were injured just a year ago, and I think we owe a lot of that to working with Allison. Obviously everyone's needs are different, but I'd highly recommend Allison based on my experience.
