These are the best tacos I've ever had. I ordered three meat tacos and they were wonderful. I love the side sauces and fixings you can choose from the side cart near the counter. The extra hot pepper sauce was spectacular too. It would be 5 stars except for a couple of things: 1. The soda machine was lacking syrup. My coke tasted like carbonated water. No flavor. I don't recommend spending the $2.75 for a soft drink. 2. The dining room furniture is old and uncomfortable. Not a place to hang out for interesting conversations. 3. You order off of a computer which was confusing and time consuming. The staff work very hard but basically nobody offers help or asks for feedback. I have heard good things about this restaurant and finally got a chance to go with some friends and let me just start by saying their horchata is 10/10. No chalky aftertaste, sweet but not overly. You order from a kiosk and then wait for your number to be called. I got the two quesibirria taco dinner with rice and it comes with a consume. This place does Quesabirria tacos correctly.The flavor was there. The amount of meat and cheese you get in the taco perfection. The flavor of the rice went well with the meal. Again The horchata was absolutely delicious. The meall came with chips and they have a little salsa bar that you can try different ones with your things. The elote, I could skip that, but that doesn't bring it down a star. It just wasn't the typical taste profile of elote.I feel like it was trying to do a little bit too much. It has been a while since we've been back, but we were in the area with some friends and decided to stop by for a late dinner. We came in around 8pm on a Friday night and were able to enjoy some $3 drinks, and delicious tacos. We thought we were there late but tons of folks joined in shortly after. I tried the aqua frescas, and their orange dirty soda. The aquas were delightful, they have a Jamaica and a pina. The orange dirty soda wasn't my favorite but it was good. I got the steak tacos because they are my favorite, they are tender and full of flavor. While they have a salsa bar you don't even need the salsas because they are just that great! Nightmare feels a bit like an understatement. I will preface this entire story by saying I am a millennial and very new to the Apple Pay world. However, Invicto states online that they accept Apple Pay and so I did not expect the entire process to be so troublesome. I stopped in for a quick dinner and had about $30 in Apple Cash. Invicto only takes card or Apple Pay and so I had planned to pay any remaining balance with my debit card. They also have computers where you place your order. I did so and in the checkout process attempted to pay, but the system closed out my order after tapping my Apple Pay. I thought maybe that I needed to start over so I tried to go through the process again and upon pulling up my Apple Pay again I realized that my balance was wiped and that I had in fact been charged the first time through. I asked the two people in the kitchen if they could help me, and if they saw my order to which the gentleman stated that he had no idea about the ordering system and he could not help me. I tried to tell him that I had been charged and I wanted to see if my order had gone throughand again he told me in essence - too bad so sad. I waited and asked the woman behind the counter if she might be able to help me and she had no knowledge of the ordering system either. Likely because I was not leaving and could not figure out any other ways to troubleshoot this problem the guy came back up to me a final time and said "what is your problem?" Great customer service if I do say so. I explained the entire situation a fourth time and really would have preferred to just have my order refunded, but of course that is not something that he was capable of doing. He begrudgingly made my order and sent me on my way. I do not believe that this establishment should state that they have Apple payment nor should they be utilizing a computer-based ordering system if they do not have someone on the premise who is able to troubleshoot issues. read more

My niece was craving a churro shake so we made our way to Invicto. We got a few tacos for a quick dinner and dined in. The tacos we got were: -Al pastor -pollo -camarones The corn tortillas were fresh and delish. The prices were a little high for my taste, but the tacos were generously stuffed. There is a self serve salsa bar, but I didn't find any sauces with actual heat so that was a bit disappointing. Another day, another trip to Invicto. This is one of my favorite fast casual Mexican spots. Everything is made to order, ingredients are fresh, and taste like elevated street mexican. Pricing can come at a premium which is why I love the burritos so much! This time, I got the Nacho Burrito with Elote filling! There are (6) assorted sauces and salas offered but the chipotle crema is my favorite. It adds a smokey cream with a small finishing heat. Their menu has something for everyone. I enjoyed the vibe at Invicto - I left like I was sitting at a taco stand in Mexico - maybe by the water. You place your order at the kiosk and you pick it up at the window. This wasn't too clear as I saw people go directly to the counter and they were waved back to the kiosks. They didn't call out a number either and we were constantly asking if the food that was sitting out belonged to us. But I forgive those minor inconveniences because I enjoyed the food. The chips were hot and freshly fried. The guacamole was fantastic -- lots of chunky avocados with onion, tomatoes and cilantro. The elotes was ok. If there's something called vampiros on the menu, I'm gonna try it -- CRISPY CORN TORTILLA W/ GUACAMOLE SAUCE, SALSA RANCHERA, ONIONS Y CILANTRO -- I thought this was very good but also very messy and hard to eat. My friend tried the mulas - a quesadilla- and they said it was ok. The taco plate was tasty and generous with rice and beans. Invicto is a casual mexican restaurant with a few locations. I went to the one in Vernon Hills in the Mellody Farm shopping mall. When you enter you have the option of ordering up front or from the two digital kiosks in the back of the restaurant. You can seat yourself wherever you like, they have both indoor and outdoor options. I had the chicken nacho burrito and I was not disappointed. Definitely choose the option for it to be grilled on the outside. The burrito has a layer of tortilla chips that add a lot of texture and crunch into each bite. The chicken was juicy and seasoned just right. The ingredients themselves were spread evenly through the burrito. I really liked the combination of the queso and guacamole sauce. The portion for the burrito was also generous. They also have a self-serve sauce/salsa bar with several different options to choose from. Personally I liked the salsa ranchera the best!. It did take about 20 minutes to get my order, so order ahead or plan accordingly, especially when they are busy. I am excited to try more of their menu in the future. read more

Their technology exceeds their humanity. Walking in there is a sign that says order at the register. Kiosks are great for some but not all. Not just this time but on several occasions I've asked if someone could ring me up at the register. I'm told we are busy use the kiosk or when they will ring you up it's like they think they are doing you a favor. There is a lot of good Mexican food, why not go somewhere that is customer centric. I'd really love to give it more stars but the flavor of the foods were just not on par with so many other Mexican food options around the area. The tacos only had some shredded cabbage, onion, and cilantro. No pico or guac or any other pepper type of flavor. The ingredients and everything were very fresh, but the depth of flavor is severely lacking other than a lot of salt and maybe just cumin. I'm not sure if they are limiting the spices due to potential allergen risks, but the flavors are all very singular and flat. The mushroom tacos mushroom were big and juicy but just very salty and no other flavor. Same with the shrimp. I've definitely had way better shrimp tacos anywhere else. Both the mushroom and shrimp had this similar dark flavor. I was expecting vastly different flavors but no, tastes the same. And the sauce on the tacos were also just kind of bland and the same as in the corn tacos. For how much each taco was, which was about a dollar more expensive than everywhere else, the actual taste does not meet expectation. Again, the ingredients are all very fresh, and I feel like this is very catered to hip/working class who don't really care about the price or the taste as long as there's fresh ingredients and large quantity. I forget how good Invicto is! I used to frequent their Naperville location and I was in the Hawthorne Mall area for the Bears Training Camp. We were in the mood for tacos after seeing the taco trucks at Halas Hall so this was a great option to actually sit down and enjoy a meal. I ordered the verde mula (quesadilla) and my brother ordered the steak tacos. The rice was fluffy and really flavorful. It was a very generous portion of beans and rice and my mula came with sauce. It was a lot of food and the cost matched what you get as well as the quality. I also ended up ordering an horchata shake to go which pretty much tasted like an horchata ice cream. It was served with a churro and was so good! I'll have to remind myself to visit this establishment more! read more

This was my second time going to invicto. I went for date night. My steak burrito had good flavors but, the rice was overly cooked and I got a few pieces of grit. One of the pieces was gigantic and I had to spit it out. Not sure if I got the bottom of the barrel because we went at night, an hour before closing time. My milk shake was more milk because it had melted. The sauces helped to redeem the burrito a little. Like many other fellow Yelpers, I definitely have a mixed opinion of this place. I appreciate the variety on the menu and how you can get plates with both tacos and quesadillas, just tacos, etc. It really helps if you're indecisive like me! I ended up settling on a mushroom quesadilla and shrimp taco. My friend and I also got some chips and guac to share. The food was high-quality and flavorful overall. I especially enjoyed the crispy, rich mushroom quesadilla which tasted a little like pizza! The guacamole was fresh; the sunflower seeds added a nice crunch, and I add some to my homemade guac now! The rice also has a bold flavor with a little kick to it. The downsides were that it took them a while to take my order. It wasn't super busy at the time, and I waited by the counter for more than 5 minutes. Also, I'd definitely do take-out next time because the folding chairs are pretty uncomfortable. I know it's not supposed to be a fancy place but still worth pointing out the extremely casual vibe. Despite the informality however, it's pricey for what you get. So I'll start with the good... it's the food. Really good flavors here, I especially like the chorizo Verde tacos and the queso dip. They don't take your order anymore, they have self order kiosks now. I hate self order kiosks, especially when they have the nerve to ask for a tip when I'm not getting any service. My food came out on a tray... no plate, just tacos on parchment paper which is a total mess. The chips were underdone, some were done enough but others were basically inedible. Of course I ran out of queso before I finished half the chips anyway. The prices are up and for that increased cost your getting less service than ever before, really disappointing. Definitely a winner! Good authentic taqueria. I like how invicto is sticking to fresh made food vs the usual scoop and pack versions you see more of these days. Tried the mula plate I had it with (shrimp quesadilla w/ a street taco style w/ flour tortilla and came with some rice and beans. I went with the flour since I saw them slap a few fresh dough balls onto the griddle. The food is made to order so expect a tad bit of a wait. Also had the queso barria platter which was a beef (or was it lamb?) in a hearty corn tortilla which you dip into a savory braising sauce. It's a tad different now, the salsas are not out there for the dipping at will anymore - I think my previous time at another invicto, I was drinking the tasty salsa. The barria is something I've never had before and I think I'll definitely need to be eating more of that. The creamy green sauce was yummy and if after mixing the braising sauce with the entire platter I was very happy. The chorizo Verde was not spicy but very tasty. The mula was a solid quesadilla.
