We've ordered from Azteca about 4 times now since COVID began and not once have we been disappointed! The tacos are exactly what street tacos should be, the gorditas are always warm and just the right amount of greasy (the chicharrón has a great kick). My personal favorites are the enchiladas Rojas, the perfect amount of spicy accompanied with delicious rice and beans! We always call our order in ahead, and just swing by the drive through window to pick up and pay! Have never had an issue with ordering or pickup! Beyond that: a few weeks ago there was a power outage right after we ordered because of the storms and when we went to pick up our food, the manager(?) told us that their power was still out and were unable to process card payments. Instead of asking us to go get cash, he gave us our food so we wouldn't miss dinner, and told us we could come back tomorrow to pay. This act alone speaks volumes about the type of business they are running and I plan to continue supporting this local spot!! Try it out! You won't be disappointed! read more

The steak Burrito was good as well as their sauce. I just wish the prices on the website were more accurate. that's the main reason I went seeing as their burrito was priced at $4.95 but when paying it rang up to almost $12. I have eaten in the restaurant twice before. The first time the food was good but the service was very poor. We thought we would give it another try a few months later. The food was still good but we had the same waitress and the same poor service. Since the food was good, we thought just get takeout the next time. We ordered two burrito dinners over the phone and was told it would be 15 minutes. I arrived 15 minutes later. When I pulled up the drive-up window and paid, the bill had the two burritos listed on it. I paid it, she handed me the bag and I headed home which was only a 5-minute drive. When I opened up the bag there was only one meal in it. And if that wasn't bad enough, it was cold. If you're wondering if I went back and complained. No. Three possible outcomes here, 1. they do nothing (a complete waste of time), 2. they reimburse me (the time lost would not have been worth it), 3. they give me the meal (one thing I learned early in life was to NEVER upset the staff BEFORE they serve your food). Walk into Aztecs thirty minutes ago. Were greeted as we walked in. Went to a table and sat while the only two server and no one else in the restaurant continued to talk. They then proceeded to the back of the restaurant. So we left and went to the Maya' s where we were greeted given menus and offered drinks. Don't know why they did not want to wait on us. We went here on the second day when it first opened many years ago. Bad food, bad service and they still had the old burger king seating. I swore I would never return. I am glad I decided to try it again. The waitress took her time and explained almost every item on the menu. The food was delicious, the service was superb. They did change the seating, but don't get excited about it.... Oh and the old burger king drive up window is still there but they do not use it. Carry out or dine in. Tried this place with my aunt on a whim since it was so close by. Decent food, not the greatest Mexican meal I've ever had for sure. The biggest issue by far was the service. Our waitress was okay but the whole time she was just chatting with her coworkers really loudly and multiple times gave my aunt some weird looks which made her uncomfortable. I also asked for no cheese but maybe she forgot, no big deal. Most likely won't be back unless for carry-out. read more

This is my favorite Mexican restaurant in the area. The food is flavorful and authentic, and the menu contains a wide variety of options to choose from (more plant based options than most Mexican restaurants for the vegetarians/vegans out there). Service is always friendly and average to prompt in timeliness. My only complaint is that the food is sometimes inconsistent. The search for some more authentic Mexican food has come to a close. Loved Azteca from the super clean table to the fast service. But of course I was looking for good food and reached out to my fellow yelpers for some recommendations Started with chips and salsa (with nice smoky heat!) then moved quickly onto a burrito with pork filling while my lovely bride went with the highly recommended steak tacos (perfect tacos.. more street style than overloaded stuff you sometimes find..). My burrito was huge!! Mostly lettuce volume wise but every bite had some portion of pork within. THe only slight downside of Azteca is the lack of alcohol and the sparseness of the room design. Not a spot you are going to spend all night lounging in. But good super fast and super tasty food. SO stop in and get something to go or sit down and take a few minutes to enjoy.. read more

I've returned several times to Azteca and I'm not sure it was necessarily about the quality of food. Maybe I felt it was my pet project because I first posted the restaurant? Introspection aside... I've come back and tried dining in and also carry out. Most of my original positive observations stand: 1. fast, 2. cheap, 3. clean restaurant. New observations: 1. Carry out is fast and they provide you with plenty of salsas and accessories, 2. most dishes are kinda bland. Azteca has taken residence in the original Mundelein Burger King, which went out of business years ago (don't worry Mundelein has TWO other Burger Kings.) The place is clean enough; the menu contains a variety of choices, pictures and easy to understand descriptions. The bathrooms are clean. I arrived right around lunchtime. There was only one other table of patrons at this point. (When I left, the place had picked up considerably.) Upon being seated, I was presented with a basket of chips and a variety of salsas as mentioned in a previous review. I ordered my regular-- the steak taco dinner. It came out literally in minutes and was presented in the traditional manner-- corn tortillas with steak, onions and cilantro. The steak was minimally seasoned and in my opinion, rather bland. It was also fatty- which I understand is normal for the steak that is used for carne asada, but it was apparent there was no attempt to trim the excess gristle before preparing this meat. As with most Mexican restaurants of this kind, there is no soda fountain, so you pay per can of coke (or Jarritos), which may be a problem if you are intolerant of hot food (i.e. the salsa). My bill for a steak taco dinner and a diet coke was about $8.50, with tip, $10. Meh, I shoulda saved a couple bucks and gone to Burger King ;) read more

Sopas are hard not found on many Mexican restaurant menus, but I am happy to say they are here at Azteca! Wow - so good! I have had many at other restaurants and they were awful. The toppings were fresh and plentiful. I had the pastor and it was great. Very flavorful and not too spicy. I will be back! read more

I tried this place out for breakfast. What's better than a good breakfast burrito? Well, that's what I ordered, but what I got was an omelet looking pad of eggs with bland chorizo and some taco sized tortillas. Ok, I didn't get what I ordered. No big deal. If what I got was excellent, who cares if it isn't exactly what I originally wanted. The problem here was that everything was very bland. Some red salsa was in the bag when I got home, I was hoping it would be a nice hot habenero sauce. Nope. The food was deeeh luscious. I had the milanesa de pollo it was so tasty! The right size with some cheese avacodo & mayo. I also ordered a side of beans which were pretty good! It was a really nice size and the packaging & wrapping was well done. I made my own rice so disregard that (although it is really good if I don't say so myself) I also had the guacamole which was not bad, needed a little more salt though & the tortilla chips didn't seem authentic like I thought they would have been. If you are looking for BIG SPICY flavor look elsewhere. That being said, if you are looking for something that tastes good and is reasonably priced, this is an excellent choice. I had the carne asada, chorizo and ground beef tacos with cilantro. They are a bit on the small side, if you are expecting Taco Bell sized tacos, but definitely worth the price. The carryout is quick and the staff was all very friendly. I will definitely be going back. read more

5/20/14- Had a taste for mexican today, (not taco bell). Just happened upon this place. Opted for the taco dinner/lunch, 3 tacos, beans & rice + drink=$9+-. Very pleased. I love this place! I went there for the first time on Saturday with some friends that live in the area. We started with the chips and salsa (who doesn't?) and the guacamole, the guacamole was perfect I am still thinking about it, the guacamole is a must! I also ordered two steak tacos that were also just as great, the meat they used was much better quality than other places I have tried. I can't say enough great things about this place! Then she starts talking in Spanish to the cook berating the door dash delivery person thinking I did not understand and once the driver left I let her have it. We really like this restaurant. The food has been excellent in whatever we order. I did not give it 5 stars because several of the servers could not fully understand English. When we go there now we only want this one server because she is an excellent server and understands English. We have tried several non familiar Mexican dish's and they were all enjoyable. This has turned into our favorite Mexican restaurant. They are associated with Monica's but we have never been there. It's worth the trip to go to Libertyville to Dos Amigos instead of going to Azteca. The food at Azteca is ok, but they overcharge compared to what their website says. I should have checked Yelp first, I'm not alone in being overcharged and the food at Dos Amigos is better too. read more

I was going to stop at another Taco place close by, but because the Traffic was stopped by a train I decided to try this restaurant. The salsa was really hot the way I like it. They gave you a small cup of soup. The tacos I had, one Barbacoa, and the other Chile Relleno were fantastic along with they had 3 hot sauces.
