I was acknowledged and a couple of patients were taken back after Mr. Appointment Book was finished, two patients remained and I was taken back to a treatment room to wait - for another 30 minutes. By this time, I get it; you're busy - I'd walked past the multiple patient boards which also provided a clue in case I didn't already feel like I was in a clinic not an acupuncture setting. Kari arrived and after a very brief conversation says she thinks it would help if I came twice a week to the tune of $2200. UP FRONT. When asked about insurance, she demurs, saying oh you talk to them since you know them best. Uhhhh baloney. If you're In-Network, its your distinct responsibility to 'talk to them' and submit the bills. If you're out of network, it's mine. I did receive a treatment but in a different room than the first - this with partial height walls!! I got to hear my neighbor tell the same story twice about fracturing his ribs - all while I'm mid treatment which is supposed to be healing and quiet. And unlike any other practitioner I've been to, Kari doesn't take a pulse. This did not feel like caring, attentive acupuncture; lots of regulars (Mr Appt Book and Fractured Rib among them) and upsells to ozone or electronic acupuncture. Felt like a cash grab and was more like an ER, triage here, put them there, treatment here...next!! Hard pass.

Apparently, the US Army has had a lot of success using acupuncture to treat head trauma injuries, including concussions. I started looking for an acupuncturist with the right expertise, and a friend told me that Helene Sorkin has a lot of experience treating head injuries. So I ended up flying to Tucson for four days of treatments from Helene. The treatments really helped me a lot. I feel like the fog I've been living in for months has lifted, and I can feel that it really boosted my energy. My recovery had sort of plateaued for about a month, but now I can tell that things are getting better again. I have had acupuncture from several different acupuncturists in the past. I'm really picky about doctors and acupuncturists, but I have to say that I really trust Helene. She is gifted at what she does, and you can tell that she cares very deeply about her patients. She has a lovely bedside manner, and she really goes the extra mile to take care of you. I felt really comfortable in her hands. I found Saguaro Clinic very pleasant and welcoming as well. A few years back, when I was still living in Tucson, a friend of mine gave me a gift certificate for a yoga therapy session with Georgeanna Kavanaugh. I had no idea what yoga therapy was, but I learned a lot. It was a private session with Georgeanna. She gave me personalized advice about yoga exercises that were tailored to my body and could help correct my specific posture problems and muscle weaknesses. I was really impressed by her understanding of anatomy, and I still do the exercises she recommended for me. In general, I highly recommend a visit to Saguaro Clinic for whatever problem you're dealing with. If you're nervous about acupuncture, it's really not that bad at all. ONE OF THE BEST ACUPUNCTURISTS YOU WILL EVER FIND... Over the recent years I have had the opportunity to be a patient of several different acupuncturists. All have had good intention to help heal their patients and have achieved some success. However, Dr. Sorkin's skill is head-and-shoulders above the others because she is *consistently* able to design and implement *effective* acupuncture treatments -- and do so with compassion. EXTRAORDINARY INTUITIVE ABILITIES HELP HER TO EFFECTIVELY IDENTIFY & TREAT PATIENTS' HEALTH ISSUES... Dr. Sorkin is blessed with extraordinary intuitive abilities which allow her to quickly get to the heart of a problem and make an effective diagnosis and treatment plan. For example, I have seen her take a friend of mine in a depressive crisis where he couldn't function and in one treatment (1.5 hours after walking in the door) bring him out of it so he could function in society again. Please understand that one treatment did not end his deep depression but it did allow him to not have to admit himself into a psychiatric hospital to get over that episode -- and it allowed him to return to work. As another example, she has helped -- and continues to help -- me overcome a lot of the complications that occurred from my hip reconstruction and replacement surgery. She has helped my hips feel like they are "alive" again. (It is hard to describe what that means but if you have been in a similar situation you understand what I mean.) Bone grafts had been used to help reconstruct my hip and Dr. Sorkin was able do a treatment to help assist circulation and healing of the traumatized areas, helping me walk with less problems and greater ease. KEEPS UP WITH THE LATEST TECHNIQUES... Dr. Sorkin does extensive continuing education to learn the latest advanced acupuncture approaches. (Her walls are covered with certificates of advanced trainings she has taken.) She has a real love of learning and also practically understands what she has been taught and it really does make a difference to the patient. One example is that she has done advanced training in treating allergies -- and has helped me survive the spring and monsoon allergy seasons. As another example, she has trained in advanced acupuncture approaches to treating stress. She was able to effectively treat hypoglycemia (an effect of prolonged stress) in 1 treatment, so that it is no longer a serious problem for me. And, as mentioned earlier, she has also trained in advanced acupuncture approaches to treating depression. I no longer need to get shots for seasonal allergies and I did not have a cold or flu this last winter. You (the reader) are probably saying, "That sounds too good to be true," but I believe that acupuncture has helped me with these specific issues. Marcey is extremely caring, and listens to what you have to say. It seems like each session I have a different concern or condition,(anything from aching knees to insomnia) but many times I will say, "I feel great today, just work on my immune system, so I can stay well."
