Love this place so much I had to come again! Was with a small group of friends and sat inside at the bar at first. Both bartenders were attentive and sweet. Moved to the rooftop patio and it was like walking into a winter wonderland. Snow, decorations and of course the igloos definitely made it cuter. Cocktails are reasonably priced (especially for being a hotel) and worth it. Once we got into our igloo, our bottle service waitress provided excellent customer service and made sure we were always full to the rim and checked to see if our heater was working appropriately. Dear Grant- The poor service we experienced is clearly a direct reflection of your poor leadership and that you have a track record (see other responses to poor reviews below) of dismissing customer feedback, which will surely impact the revenue not only of your rooftop bar, but of the hotel. Had we paid attention to these bad reviews before booking, we never would have went there in the first place. Furthermore, you may want to inform your servers of the "shoes on when seated at a table" rule, as there were at least 4 ladies that we saw who had slipped their sandals off while seated, yet none of us were notified about your policy. ***ORIGINAL REVIEW*** For the past year we have been waiting for the bitter winter to end and for auntie Lori to let us out the house. Well, we finally made it to the summer and the first thing we wanted to do was enjoy a great rooftop experience at the Godfrey Hotel. In order to guarantee that we were going to have an epic time, we not only reserved our table on the rooftop weeks in advance, we also booked a room for the night too (whoop!). Alright, so we get there and let me tell you... it was thoroughly disappointing. We get to the hostess stand and she tells us that the only tables available were in direct sunlight. We were eager to get seated so we tried it. Within 30 seconds of baking in the sun, Dude asked the hostess if we could sit in one of the empty shaded tables bc we couldn't take the heat anymore. Highly resistant to our request, she tells us that those tables were "reserved" for someone else. Note: we had a reservation weeks in advance and we are hotel guests... but ok. Dude insisted that we switch seats so she eventually found us alternative seating as other patrons could sense our discomfort. Alright bet! Next, we cozied on up to our table and order the cocktail flight and some sushi. The flight comes and it's a beautiful presentation. We're all excited and ready to dive in. Well, the flight came with 5 drinks, two of which were trash . Now we don't typically send drinks back unless they are just awful. And this time, it was warranted. So we asked the waiter if we could switch our our two garbage cocktail options for two others that we actually liked (mind you they were sample size portions) and his response was... "no they are non-substitutable". So wait hold up. You mean to tell me you can't swap two SAMPLE SIZE drinks out for the two different ones? This experience was beginning to feel epic for all of the wrong reasons. We literally have never been to a bar or restaurant and expressed any sort of discontent and received so much push back from not only the hostess but from the waiter too. He eventually appeased us with champagne, but frankly, it was too late. It was pretty clear that our time there was a revolving door for them and that making the customers happy was not a priority. This bar was actually on the 4th floor (i thought it would be higher). Their roof is retractable and it's a nice feeling of being in the outside patio but still inside. We came in for a birthday happy hour. Please note that their HH ends at 6pm (not 7 as we initially saw online). The HH options are pretty reasonable with a mix of drinks and food. We really liked their fries and the spicy tuna rolls the best. Unfortunately, service was miss. My friend ordered her food and drinks but only part of her order came on time. The waitress had gone missing so we couldn't remind her. We eventually received the rest of the order but these were billed at higher non HH prices. My friends had to argue with her to explain that we put all the order in all at once and asked why would part of the check be priced differently. As this was for a birthday, someone brought in a cake. However, the bar didn't allow for us to cut the cake so they charged the group a $45 cake cutting fee!! To add to the ridiculousness, the staff only brought out half the cake (where did the rest go!?). they didn't have the proper answer. We made a reservation that promised heating & were seated next to an open door with below 30 degree winds blowing on us as well as many other couples. Ive experienced this rooftop twice, once for an event the other for a birthday. The event was hosted by someone else with catering, etc so the ratings will not reflect the event but my own experience upon celebrating a birthday. I do not know what it it with managers hiring blonde women with no english speaking background. I actually find it pretty offensive that the staff is limited to the way a women looks, however, dumb as a box of rocks. This is a prestigious hotel and although everyone deserves a chance, c'mon there is a limit. When I tell you my waiter could not understand us she was dumb founded on everything we asked her for. She had zero knowledge on the services offered. This a great rooftop to take pictures and cuddle by the fire! Music sucks, food is overly expensive and by far DISGUSTING. You will have a better time for a cheaper rate at the Virgin Hotel Rooftop. Which is exactly where we went right after. Trust me. It's pointless to go to the Godfrey rooftop. We came to Godfrey for my girlfriends birthday brunch and it was a total disappointment. Portions are far too small, taste is bland. This place was empty on hot summer afternoon, which was surprising as they're one of few bars with retractable roof and can easily blast up AC. I was late to brunch but my friends said they found it annoying that waitresses kept asking if our group wanted bottle service. If so they would get the reserved seating. It happened multiple times even though the group kept declining the offer. Three stars as Drinks are great no doubt the chef here freezes herbs and fruits with ice which adds unique touch. I went to this red for breakfast on a Saturday (it was about 11am) and I was shocked to see how empty it was. The service was not great. It took quite a while to get drinks, and to have our orders taken. I asked if the 3 egg omelet could be made as scrambled instead and was told it could be, however when it came out it was an omelette with sliced cheese inside (barely melted). The portion size also felt way too small to be 3 eggs! There's no way it was! The omelette also came with tater tots which were horrible! Completely soaked in oil and tasted only like grease. Went here for brunch on a Saturday. The view and overall vibe of the place is awesome! The service is also amazing and everyone is kind and accommodating. We were dressed casually and everyone treated us very nicely. The food is good, nothing amazing. We got the steak Benedict which was good but small. The truffle fries are good, but you can get the same ones literally anywhere in the city. The cappuccino was good with strong coffee. The food is a 3/5 and the ambiance and service is a 5/5. It pains me to write this review but I feel my experience needs to be told. My previous post has nothing to do with what I experienced on Saturday night. 9.2.17 : Saturday night, my boyfriend and I came to the Godfrey Hotel rooftop to celebrate his birthday weekend. We planned to come here for drinks, enjoy the view and to be with friends. When we arrived, it was raining and the retractable roof was closed. The crowd was light and we ordered some drinks at the bar. We arrived around 8:30pm. Upon us ordering our drinks, the rain let up and we walked out to the outside of the roof. Before going outside, we asked the bartender if that part of the roof was reserved. She said no, and advised we could sit anywhere. We asked the server to wipe off the sits as some of our guest arrived. We ordered more drinks and food (which was great by the way). Around 9:30-10:00pm, more people began to file in but it still was "crowded". During this time, we were asked to move from the seat we were in because someone had reserved the booth for bottle service. No harm, no foul, we moved to a high table and was just as happy. As people filed in, we noticed tht our friends kept calling saying they were in line and not allowed to come up. This was weird seeing as though the rooftop was not crowded and other people were coming back and forth. Two of our friends that stood in line for at least 15 minutes was told that they could come to the rooftop if they paid $40 dollars a piece. Another friend was told the only way he could get up was to purchase table service for $700. This was strange seeing as though we were already upstairs having drinks and that's all our friends wanted to do. I was not informed that the rooftop required that you could only partake in the view and the rooftop UNLESS you purchased a bottle. We were under the impression that we could go to the roof, purchase our drinks individually, order food, enjoy the scene-- without purchasing a bottle. Additionally, we continued to receive conflicting information from the bouncer/guy at the door... one minute it was "I'll let you up in 15 minutes" then it was "you can only go to the roof if you have a reservation" "I'm only letting people up who is purchasing bottle service"... This type of treatment put a very bad taste in my mouth. When I visited the last Friday, I was told by the bar staff that we would be able to visit the rooftop without requiring bottle service. We (myself and my boyfriend) were only meeting 4 other friends there - 2 of which don't actually drink but wanted to partake in the incredible views. I must say, we ended up leaving the rooftop abruptly. It wasn't fun for us knowing that our friends were left standing downstairs in line without any hopes of coming up to enjoy the night. This was a totally different experience then from Friday afternoon that I loved. Overall, my Saturday at the rooftop was short of disappointing. Disappointed that we were not able to celebrate with our friends. Disappointed that my friends were giving conflicting information. Disappointed these same friends paid for valet just to stand in line for 30 minutes! Disappointed that 'IF' there were stipulations to the rooftop on Saturday's, this information isn't on the website or told once you arrive. Clearly, as a business owner, you can run your business the way you please and decide who you would like to patron your establishment. But I just couldn't for the life of me understand the treatment we received on Saturday. Let's be clear, when inside, my bartender was great! My server was awesome. The steak tacos were to die for! The people that were able to get up had a good time. The crowd was minimal so we were able to move around without any issue. (Which further boggles my mind as to why my other friends weren't allowed up). I don't know if I'm looking for an explanation or an apology. Honestly, don't know if I'll get either but I felt so sad that I wasn't able to complete my night on the rooftop and had to go elsewhere... and buy drinks and pay another valet. read more

Went here for Easter brunch buffet. I wasn't impressed with the seating area: i felt we were crammed, esp being close to the curtain decor of the hallway, despite being there early! I tried my best to sample every food item, and after 2 hours with my daughter of gluttony, we decided to check this area out. Love the lobby area, esp for pictures! I used the Spot Hero app to find affordable parking; the best price was $17 total for the whole day! Complimentary Easter photo and Easter basket for egg hunting. There's even a play area for the kids just dor this event! Wasn't able to fully enjoy the rooftop because it was a chilly, yet sunny day. Hence, it was too pricey for a mediocre experience. The setting was beautiful with the different colored lights.We had the sliders as an appetizer, they were delicious. I had the lamb chops and my fiancé had the 8 ounce steak. The chops were juicy and cooked perfectly the steak was delicious and very flavorful. We had fries and potato fingers,both ok. Around 11 the bottle service tables started arriving. The outdoor roof top was open but they did not have the fire started and that's the only reason why I didn't give it a five. We were looking forward to sitting by the fire and having a drink. The side with the fire on was not open to the public. Our bill was around $230.00 pretty much what we expected. We had several beers and a bottle of champagne along with our food. We've been here several times now and unfortunately all I can say is that each experience is mediocre. Today we tried calling to see if we could make a reservation but the phone line said that the hotel wasn't taking calls due to COVID. Ok not a big deal. We checked in with the hostess and she said they were full on reservations today and only had a table in direct sunlight which we were fine with knowing it's a holiday weekend and it would be hard to find a table for brunch. I stopped being fine with it when we walked onto the rooftop and there were maybe 10 tables total that had patrons yet we were sat in the direct sun immediately next to another table and then the other table immediately next to us was sat a few moments later. Not sure how that complies with social distancing either. All the shaded tables around us were free for the entirety of the meal. Outside of that, I asked our server if the meal I was interested in ordering was a really tiny portion, she said yes so I picked another meal, which when it came was about 5 bites. Why not tell me that when I asked such a specific question about the item I didn't order? I also ordered a drink which was made incorrectly and was undrinkable it was so sweet. At the end of the meal the server asked if everything was ok because we were in such a hurry. I appreciate the concern I suppose but it also just felt like a strange thing to ask. Came here for happy hour after work. The atmosphere was laid back, and we immediately got ourselves settled in the outdoor lounge area with a pitcher of strawberry mojitos, and truffle fries. They had a pretty good happy hour menu with lots of options! The lamb chops we tried were absolutely delicious, they were tender and came off the bone easily. So good we had to order another plate. The view could be better, as you look out from the rooftop you get an eyeful of the Rock 'n Roll McDonalds right across the street, but this rooftop was on the 4th floor of a hotel so it did the best it could. I gave this place 1 star because I had to! I have never been treated so poorly. We came here for my niece's birthday. Before we stepped foot in the restaurant, my card had been charged and there is a no refund policy. We were escorted to our igloo that did not zip ad it was cold outside. When asked for it to be fixed or for us to be placed in another one, we were told by the manager that there was nothing that could be done and she offered a refund. She stood in a defensive stance the entire time while addressing our party. After more discussion, she then said the igloo would be repaired. 30 minutes later...the igloo is repaired and we're told that our time would not be extended. Of course we're upset and then she finally tells us how much time we have and it was a reasonable amount, why not lead with that instead of trying to find reasons for us not to be there. When we get in the igloo, after some time, the radiators go out. A nice gentleman repairs them, but they go out again. The manger is called to our igloo and she come with the nastiest attitude. When we tell her the issue, she tells us they are on a timer which was not true. She then starts clapping her hands when speaking with us as if she is ready to fight. So now we stand up and she runs and gets security and threatens to call the police. After more discussion, we leave the igloo because it's cold and go to the restaurant while trying to get our bill straightened out. Why would we pay $125+ service fee when the service was not the best. While speaking with security and another gentleman, she continued to walk past us and eyeing our party. I guess she was trying to either intimidate us or the gentlemen we were speaking to,, I have no idea of her purpose We were the only AA in the igloos and the other party of AA were waiting over an hour to be seated. I hate we didn't take the initial offer of getting our money back, because it was a horrible experience. I will never go there again. It was ridiculous how much you have to spend to reserve a table and then to be treated like our money didn't spend. I forgot to add the the server came back multiple times for the bill while we were trying to rectify the situation until she was asked not to come back until we're ready to pay it and to stop acting as if we would run out on the bill. They still had ny credit card and ID so where was I going? Plus, I was staying at the hotel. Don't waste your money here. The ambience was not great. The lights around our igloo were out,, there were no real decorations,, it was all in poor tasted for something of that cost. The food was average and the service was garbage aside from the gentleman who fixed the heater and security. I should not have needed to interact with either of them. Save your money and go some place where you are treated with respect and can enjoy your family, this wasn't that place. read more

Our stay at this hotel so far has been very disappointing. We've booked 6 nights and 7 days at the Godfrey. On Saturday night we thought to give the I|O bar a try and the customer service was terrible. We took the elevator down to the 4th floor and were told that we had to go to the lobby for wrist bands even though we are staying on the premises. We venture down just to show our IDs then ushered to the elevator to come back to the 4th floor and when we walked back into the bar no one checked our bands. We proceeded to the bar and bought two drinks from a bartender that obviously can't speak more than 7 words, "You wanna open or close your tab". After standing we notice tons of tables so we asked one of the bar girls where can we sit to not interrupt reserved seating, she pointed to a section and before we could sit down the hostess both said we couldn't sit there. We advised that the bar girl said we could and they told us we can sit anywhere else. We then walked to the opposite side of the bar and sat down in a booth in the back (mind you there were 7 or more tables available). One hostess rushed over to say we couldn't sit there. We then asked where we CAN sit to enjoy our beverage and she said no where. She didn't ask if we wanted the bottle service.., she just assumed we couldn't pay for it. Coming here after spending $400 at Chicago Cut was disheartening. We hold all corporations at a high standard. Our next visit to the Windy City we'll be choosing a different hotel. If I could choose ZERO stars I would however the option was unavailable. read more

The photo will speak for itself. Last Friday night, May 12, I asked my friends to hang out with me at Godfrey. We initially stayed at the patio and had a good time. Our server was very nice and attentive. She kept on asking if we need anything and this even made us more interested in ordering more drinks. Then we went inside. We were about to take a picture and while we were posing, the waiter (guy in black with curly hair in the photo) just went straight ahead and pushed me. No 'excuse me' or any warning from him, he just went straight ahead. There were two other waiters who were behind him but they waited until we took the photo, not like this very rude man. I looked for him to ask if he knew what he did. He ignored me at first and he did not even apologize. I had to ask for an apology from him. This made me really upset and this ruined our night. I did not come to Godfrey to be treated like that. After a few minutes, he gave me a free glass of champagne which I did not take. He thinks what he did will be solved by a glass of champagne. I will never go back to this place. All my friends will never go back to this place. We will gladly spend our money somewhere else. We also talked to the manager and I hope she was able to deal with that very rude waiter. All we wanted was have a good time. I hope the experience that I had will never happen to anybody else. I was a paying customer and that waiter gets paid because of customers. If you want to hang out at a rooftop bar, I urge you to hangout somewhere else like Drumbar, The Wit, or even London House but do NOT come here unless you want to be pushed by waiters with attitudes.
