Meatloaf, mashed potatoes and cottage cheese.
    Michael B.

Above average truck stop eatery. Has a buffet that I wish was better stocked so I ordered off the menu. I had the Meatloaf with mashed potatoes and cottage cheese. Meatloaf was hit and tasted just like home. Mashed potatoes were a little runny but still tasted alright. And cottage cheese was probably just out of a container anyway. The service was excellent. My waitress was friendly and always checked on me and kept my drink full.

Traveling to Iowa a few times a year, the world's largest truck stop has become a frequent pitstop for us, and we've often expressed curiosity about the Iowa 80 Kitchen, and its buffet. Given the price and quality, I cannot say we'll ever be back now that we've tried it. But if it's quantity you're after, you've come to the right place. That said, avoid the mac & cheese.

    Meat loaf dinner, average

While visiting the world's largest truck stop I thought that I would do lunch in the I80 restaurant because the on line videos looked ok and nothing spectacular but it's for the experience. They have a full service restaurant and a buffet that you can choose from but the buffet would be out because I don't have a big appetite and I fill easily. The buffet looked decent with bbq ribs, fried chicken, sides, salad, sweets etc. The menu boarders perfect because it's not huge but it is well planed out with what they offer from breakfast, lunch and dinner which made it hard to choose because it all sounded good. The meat loaf with mashed potatoes and potato salad sounded really good so that's what I ordered. My food came quickly and it was not hot but luke warm and looked good. The meat loaf was savory and very tender with big chunks of onions half cooked with a slight crunch left in them. The mashed potatoes were a little loose for my taste because I like them thicker but ok. The gravy was weak flavor wise with no richness/big flavors but plentiful. The roll and tub of butter I didn't even eat because that's not me. The potato salad was one of the worst I have because the flavor was off putting and not enjoyable because it had a sharp flavor. Overall my lunch was pretty much what you would expect for truck stop food and average but satisfying for meat loaf and mashed potatoes, comfort food.

Tonite was The Best Pork Chops... double thick yum. Had mashed potatoes n peas with one lil ole chicken wing. That was dinner. We were hungry. Had soup with a nice salad and strawberry jello cream cup. Perfect!! Now gotta drive to Omaha.. wah wah wah. Till next time. ( so glad I went to Chiro upstairs before I ate) Back for an adj but had time to kill so we ate! Hehe. Had some breaky from the menu this time. I thought I would try the half order of biscuits n gravy. She gave me a sample to try. Wow really good. So I got my plate and one biscuit and a plate full of gravy!!! Soooo yummy , put Tobasco on for a bit more flavor. But it's homemade sausage grave and very hammy tasting!!! Bf had chef salad. He loves their 1000 island dressing. All a Good start

Pork Roast was great I should've ordered rice with it instead of a potato. It's not home but it's safe to say it's like a home meal. The staff was polite and friendly. Highly recommend.

    Dinner salad.

I travel quite a bit for work so I'm on the road and I'm usually stopping at new places, but I took my family here and was absolutely blown away by the service and their attentiveness to my wife's allergies, their menu was simple which speaks volumes to the quality that the chefs will be putting out, their drink menu was superb and they didn't miss on a single facet of the experience.

I'll admit I was a little bit disappointed with the experience. The ambiance is very nice. The restaurant was in the downtown area very close to the mississippi river. There seemed to be a lot happening at the other establishments. In the area. The service was efficient , although we weren't a big fan of our server. One of the things that bothered me was when our bill came and they have those handheld machines that cash you out , the server stood over the top of us waiting to see how much gratuity we were gonna apply to our check. That's one thing that should never be done in a nicer place. The food was decent. The brussels sprout salad was absolutely fantastic. We ordered four different entrees. The swordfish , the salmon , lamb meatballs and a pasta dish. All came out hot looking really nice and had multiple components. Some of the dishes lacked seasoning and the overall wow factor. The bill came out to $240 with one salad , four entrees and five alcoholic drinks. Very reasonable fo four people at a nice place. We didn't order dessert, but I would've liked to try the cheesecake.

Our server, Ava, was attentive and helpful. I had The Drive Thru which is a smash burger with typical burger fixings and sauce (similar to what you might find on a Big Mac). It was a standard burger, done well. I was happy with it. My wife had soup and a Caesar pasta salad. I had a little of the latter and liked it. it is exactly how one would imagine it. My kid had mac n' cheese, which tasted like it was made from scratch--it was definitely better than we have found at a lot of other restaurants. I also had the blood orange lemonade, which was a nice twist on standard lemonade. My only complaint about the meal was that the fries tasted a little burned. They weren't--I think the oil in the fryer just needed to be replaced. For dessert, I had the deep fried cookie dough. They gave us a lot more than I was expecting. They served three of the balls, and each one was the size of a small orange. I can honestly say that this is a dish I have never tried before. I can't say that I loved it, but I appreciated trying something new. It could stand to be cooked a little more in the center (maybe make the balls smaller?). For the quality of the food, I think the pricing was absolutely fair. Overall, I was pleasantly surprised by this place. I would definitely go back.

They were loud and were spending so much time with the server that was taking care of them, that it was keeping her from being able to attend actual customers in a timely manner. I would have put 5 stars, but the aforementioned disturbance knocked it down to a 4. Maybe in the future the owners will take this to heart.
