3 1/2 stars is probably a little more accurate, but we don't have that option now, do we :-) There are a few things that made me go with a four, instead of a Three Star review. First, the restaurant was absolutely spotless. We were there at the height of lunch rush time and employees were constantly cleaning. There is a stereotype of truck stop restaurant is not being the cleanest, but this certainly is not the case here. Second, the employees were without exception and extremely pleasant and friendly. They really seem like they enjoyed their work, and that they appreciated our business. That goes an awfully long way in today's market. Lastly, the breaded tenderloin was a real tenderloin, not a pre-processed fritter. Hi marks for that... Perhaps not the best tenderloin I've ever had, but certainly above average. My wife had a lunch buffet, and it looked tasty, but there was nothing terribly adventurous... Just good old Midwestern, down home cooking. Excited to have a sit down meal when I decided to pop in and try the breakfast buffet. The price was $10.19. I thought that sounded decent for a buffet. The food was pretty bad. The eggs were brown, they had very few options available. Pretty much eggs, bacon sausage, potatoes and old pancakes. It wasn't work the $10.19. I've been to way better buffets. Save your money and go to the food court. You'll have way more options. read more

A classic truck stop almost like a mini shopping mall for anything that you could possibly need. inside like a shopping mall there are six or eight different kinds of fast food restaurants and there's also a sit-down restaurant for those of you that may want that experience. I made sure I had my ice cream cone at dairy Queen and I had a couple tacos. It's a fast in and out. it also has a variety of things that you might need while traveling from actual road maps if you want something to backup your GPS 2 little games for kids in such things like that. There are also plenty of local Iowa souvenirs that if you forgot to get something that you're going a couple states away to you can pick up some nice things to give to people. The ambiance of the place is interesting there's lots of antique 30s 40s truck stop material there it is independently owned and operated. read more

Very disappointed in the Veterans Day menu for Veterans. Very limited menu, if you like breakfast, sandwiches or spaghetti you'll be fine! I ordered the cheeseburger and I guess it will do, but I would have rather had what I wanted without being limited! read more

They have many choices on where to sit; booths, table tops, even a diner counter top area. They have a buffet or menu. What is great is the about the place is how spacious it is, tables are a good distance from each other. Food Drinks - Just water tonight. Appetizer - none My Main Course - A steak sandwich for me, and it was cooked the way I liked it. The steak was served on top of both slices and another pile for the lettuce, tomatoes, and onions. This was nice as I skipped the onions; this is for my wife's benefit. The steak did not need a knife, I was able to bite into it without issues. Bread was great too. Dessert - none. Service - Fast and friendly, what more can you ask for! Future - If I am in the area again, I could come back here. read more

Plenty of seating and good eating! Had a good breakfast platter with coffee that came under $15 in costs. Sat by the large red truck with I-80 written on the driver's side door. A large area that almost feels like a cafeteria, the I-80 Kitchen is very friendly to the traveler as well as truck driver. And of course, they serve food for 24 hours. read more

It's a truck stop with truck stop food. We had the buffet. All you can eat. That's not a perk. It's not bad. It's truck stop food. My fiancee did find a chunk of wood in the cowboy beans. We pointed out to the waitress. No visit from the manager. We joked if we found an actual bat in the beans that would warrant a visit. No one brave enough to attempt sweet n sour chicken. Mashed potatoes and gravy was good. Meatloaf meh. Fried chicken ok. Pork needed the gravy so it didn't suck the moisture from your mouth. I think it is the biggest and the best truck stop. This is a must-stop for my husband and me whenever we are driving Route 80. This trip we stopped for the lunch buffet. It was really good. They had the best bbq ribs on the buffet. We couldn't believe how much meat was on the bones and how tender the beef was. I also had the clam chowder which had a wonderful flavor. A strange series of events led to me and my immediate family as well as my father and step-mother traveling together on Christmas day from our hometown in Illinois to visit family in Iowa City. Not counting on much being open along the way, my father and step-mother we stop at the world's largest truck stop for the lunch buffet. And so we did. The truck stop itself is well maintained and huge, has all manner of amenities useful to travelers and particular to truckers. I can't comment on those very much but it seemed quite extensive. With respect to the cafeteria style diner, we all went for the buffet option. I'll say that the staff, forced or volunteering to work on Christmas day, were unfailingly polite and helpful. Alas, that is the best thing I can say about this place because the food was mediocre at best. It was standard traditional mid-western American, alas a flavorless and bland variant...fried chicken, green bean casserole, mashed potatoes, a so-so salad bar, mediocre prime rib. Nothing was at all a stand out, aside from the aforementioned service. Have a feeling it was mostly prefab stuff heated up off a food delivery truck. I suppose this is a fine place to stop if you want a sit down meal while driving down I-80 through Iowa but not worth a special trip at all. read more

I must admit I didn't have high hopes for this place when I first got there, but I must say I wasn't just mildly surprised I was absolutely impressed by this place. The food, the service was exceptional. Let's start with the salad. Totally taken back by the quality of vegetables. Everything was crisp and fresh. Cucumbers were crisp like they just got it out of the garden. So were the tomatoes. I ordered the chicken fried steak. This is one of the few places I have been where they drown that thing in gravy. Absolutely the worse! First, there was a flie on my food. When I complained, my waitress told me to just get another piece. Then my grilled cheese was cold on the inside and wasnt melted at all. They use a processed fake cheese and my waitress seemed to annoyed when I asked to have a grilled cheese that has a melted cheese inside. And even if you get a food without flie, it will taate awful. MISSION FAILED! You'd think that the WORLD'S LARGEST TRUCKSTOP would have some menu variety, not so much. The broccoli cheddar soup was OK and if you like your salad with brown lettuce, this is the place for you! The buffett has the traditional trucker SLOP, Instant potatoes, boxed Mac & Cheese, cheap pasta made 3 or 4 ways and any veggies are soaking in can juice loaded up with bacon and ham for "flavor" no wonder these drivers are all fat, diabetic and sleeping with a CPAP device. Meat loaf, ham slices, cold fried chicken and pork ribs for meat choices. Not a fish in sight. No fresh fruit at all and even the salad toppings are almost minimal. Even the cookies, cakes and pies all look imported. CAN NO ONE COOK ANYMORE? Hey, it's not all their fault. The parking lot is FILLED with reasons for them to keep on keepin'on! The server was nice and attentive. The other "food" alternatives are no better, Pizza Hut, Taco Bell, DQ and one other choice that escapes me. Iowa 80 truck stop Kitchen restaurant buffets and menu items are very poor quality. The food on the buffet is simply poured out of a can warmed up and put on the buffet. They don't seem to have a cook. It is awful. Don't waste your money; just go to the food court inside the same building. They charge $32 for 2 adults drinking water at the buffet; it is the worst buffet I have ever been to. read more

I've only come here for the breakfast but got to try several options. The convenience of the location, being close to gas and sundries, is also a plus; and, being part of the world's largest truck stop, of course. The breakfast items are decent, with prompt and courteous service. The prices seem a bit higher than average for the area. I thought the southwest skillet had more potatoes in it than chorizo and other ingredients but still tasted great. Looks like a regular stop for many locals as well. The food is really good here. I had a Taco salad and my main squeeze had a mushroom Swiss burger w/fries. Both entrees were superb. It's been YEARS since we have been to this Iowa 80 truck stop and it's still a great place to look around at the custom trucks on the show room floor and grab a bite to eat. My husband and I stop at IA 80 2-3 times a week. The folks in the fast food area are very nice and make sure we get EXACTLY what we order The Iowa's 80 Kitchen is a different story. 1. Ashley is EXTREMELY RUDE. I am a bariatric patient and can eat limited food choices. They have a 1 time only trip to the buffet they call a $5 PLATE. I usually go, get a plate and put meat and veggies on it. Ashley gave me a CUP AND SAUCER and said "This is the plate you get and you can put all you can on it. Because I eat less than a cup of food at a time, I was able to get some Chicken and veggies on the plate and beans in the bowl. Thank the Good Lord it wasn't breakfast because I would have had a complete mess! But seriously!! $5 for a cup and saucer?!! Today we are having breakfast. My waitress, like all but ASHLEY, gave me my $5 plate...an actual PLATE! My friends patty melt is burnt. My husbands hash is burnt. The food in here is mediocre. It's NEVER delicious. Iowa 80 carries the Travel Centers of America sign but not their standards nor their commitment to the TRUCKER. If you come to eat, get yourself some fast food and friendly service...bypass the restaurant. And as we're leaving, customers are complaining because they are being over charged. If you are looking for a no nonsense menu that is reasonably priced then this is the place. The waitress was extremely friendly and kept the black coffee flowing. One waitress on the floor, one behind the counter that won't leave her post to help with coffee and waters. Took quite a while to get drinks much longer to get refills. A table of 4 seated after our table of 6 had their food before us, even another table that ordered 30 minutes after our table got their food first. Lousy service. Sweet tea not sweet at all. The lunch buffet was offered for $13.75 an adult with drink and child for 4.95. Very affordable. The buffet had some ok staples offered, chicken, pork chops, soups, salad bar, meat loaf, sides and pasta. It was nothing I wanted to rave about. Some of the food items were like warm in temperature, and bland tasting. A notch up from fast food if your looking for a real breather on your trip. But very much lacking flavor. Stopped here at 5:30 am one morning to get our day started off right with a good breakfast that would allow us to last a 7 hour car drive. I ordered coffee and the pancakes. Coffee was good and the waiter was on top of it, always keeping my mug full! The pancakes were quite honestly the best tasting pancakes I have ever had the pleasure of eating. The downside was one of my 3 cakes was slightly underdone, but it still tasted amazing. The waiter was a nice guy and a pleasure to chat with. When he asked about the food I said the pancakes were delicious and he informed me that its the type of buttermilk that makes them so good. Service here is relaxed and friendly. Their buffet and salad bar had closed by the time I came in for dinner around 10:30 at night so I ordered off the menu. It was early in the A.M. when we arrived and half of the seating area was closed. No big deal except an employee was spraying an entire can of bug spray over there. While we were eating the gnats that they were spraying for began buzzing around and landing on our food...ugh. I spent half of my time eating looking out for bugs covered in insecticides. I'm sure this isn't an issue all the time but it was our experience. The food was good though. We both got breakfast meals, eggs with hash browns and Texas toast. I have eaten here before and remember the food being decent. This time I was disappointed. The decor was beautiful, and the service decent, but the food was disappointing. I ordered the chicken Caesar salad. Although the chicken was prepared nicely, they used iceberg lettuce instead of romaine. The chicken was also mixed into the salad. This caused the salad to get warm. The bread stick was as hard as a rock. My wife ordered the chicken Alfredo. Half of her dish appeared to come from a box. I was visiting family in Iowa and the recommended this place for breakfast. I was not disappointed. I do not eat from buffets as too many hands going over the food for me. But we all enjoyed the breakfast to order and there was enough to feed any hungry person. I could not finish it all. The service was great and a nice clean environment. Five stars is rough as stating there is nothing better is a stretch. So four stars because I have never eaten any place that I could say there is nothing better out there. read more

Stopped here as a part of our stop at the Worlds Largest Truckstop. I found the experience pretty awesome. We came after 6pm on a Monday and it was not packed at all. Our food came out very fast and our serve was excellent. She knew what she was doing and how to keep the customer happy. I really enjoyed the onion rings. Typically with onion rings we ask for BBQ sauce for dipping and the BBQ sauce here did not disappoint. The onion rings were extra crispy and done well. The menu is vast so there are plenty of choices. Also it appears most of their menu is available as their buffet as well. read more
