Disappointed Cleanliness: 5/5 Service: 5/5 Music & Atmosphere: 5/5 Food: 2.5/5 I really wanted to love this restaurant. I brought four family members with me for dinner, all of whom had been coming here for many years and had repeatedly told me how good it was. This was my first visit, so I came in with very high expectations based on their experiences. Unfortunately, by the end of the evening, all of us agreed that the quality of the food was not what they remembered. The biggest issue was the meat, which we found to be tough and dry. Considering the restaurant is roughly a $50-per-person dining experience and our total bill was close to $500, I simply expected a noticeably higher level of food quality. I do want to give credit where it is deserved. The restaurant itself was exceptionally clean, the service was excellent, and the staff genuinely tried to accommodate us. The music and overall atmosphere were also very enjoyable. In all three of those areas, I would comfortably give them 5 out of 5. Sadly, the food itself was closer to a 2.5 out of 5 on this particular visit, and because the food is ultimately the main reason I choose a restaurant, I don't believe I would return based on this experience. I'm not writing this to damage the business. I actually hope this feedback reaches the right people because my family remembers this restaurant being considerably better, and I would like to see it return to that level. Upon arrival, the restaurant gave the impression of a fine dining experience, so we were excited for what was to come. Unfortunately, it quickly fell short of expectations. Our waiter was inattentive and not helpful. His introduction was simply that there was no menu--we visit the salad bar, eat as much as you want and wait for servers to bring different cuts of meat, which is standard for Brazilian steakhouses. However, he couldn't recommend any speciality drinks and frequently disappeared behind the bar. To make matters worse, the restaurant only had one iPad for guests to share to view cocktails, beverages, and desserts, which was inconvenient. The servers kept circulating with steak, but no one offered the other meat selections until I had to ask our waiter, who then called for the pork and lamb to be brought out. The food lacked flavor, creativity, and presentation. Several cuts of meat were overcooked. The pork was extremely tough, the lamb was overcooked and overwhelmed with mint, the chimichurri was overly salty, the soup was bland, and the desserts tasted as though they had just come straight from the refrigerator. To make matters worse, the restaurant automatically added a 20% gratuity to the bill. Being forced to pay a premium tip for service that was inattentive, unhelpful, and well below expectations felt insulting. For the price, this experience was disappointing and far below our expectations. If you're looking for an authentic, flavorful Brazilian steakhouse experience, this is NOT the place to go. read more

By far an incredible dining experience across the board and quite frankly worth every penny and then some . I took a dear friend of mine there for what she thought was going to be a regular early dinner and she has been talking about it every day since then. The meat last night was over cooked it was so well done that it was dry and gummy. The girls and I went for a 4 pm Saturday evening dinner when Ipanema first opens and when we first walked in I was impressed. I've never been to a Brazilian steakhouse before so this was very exciting to me! When we were seated the waitress explained everything and pretty much you can serve yourself from the meat/salad bar where there is enough there for a meal your meal all on its own. Then when you are seated at your table you have a card that you leave green when you would like them to keep coming around bringing meats and other surprises like their delicious pineapple. I was seriously surprised by the pineapple it was so good it was warm, flavorful and melted in your mouth I actually asked for more. When you want to take a break or are finished with eating you simply turn your card to red and then they will not serve you unless you turn it back to green. I will say that the ambiance is wonderful, the service is impeccable and the staff is extremely attentive. Your glass is never left empty and you are never wanting for more or disappointed by the quality of service you receive at Ipanema! Now as far as the food it was delicious and cooked to perfection with just a steak or two perhaps overdone ( maybe a fluke ) considering that more of the steaks and meats were done just right. At the salad bar there were a few items that we all agreed needed more flavor and could have been better and then there were other items that we could not stop eating. I make this review with great sadness. Our experience was far from satisfactory and we paid the price in the end. This review being a Hail Mary for management to make necessary improvements! The only thing that earned this review its stars was the food itself. Me and my hubby booked a table for date night. We had high hopes as we love Brazilian steakhouses! Never had heard of this one, Exciting! When we arrived at 8, an hr before closing; we didn't have a long wait. We travel with a portable high chair as we prefer not to use in house ones. Noted in our reservation. As always, we place it on the table in a safe location as it is most beneficial for stability and functionality. The host came rushing back insisting that we needed to remove the chair as it puts our child in danger of the knife's that would be coming around, per the manager. It must be placed in a chair. I'm not one to swim against the current, so we tried to comply, however, this statement was obvious that it was a plain LIE. Truth be told, it "hurt the appearance" of the finer dining atmosphere. If the staff member would have just mentioned that nicely, we absolutely would have understood. But that did not happen. It was as if she was saying, "move it or leave". The biggest issue with moving it really came down to the round chairs. A square seat is not easily attach to its opposite shape. Leaving the seat and my baby in an unsafe and compromising position. Which in return, left my hubby sitting sideways the entire meal in an uncomfortable position. Using his leg to balance the chair to stay in place. (Swapping seats each time one of us needed to get up) During this time, our server came by to ask for drinks and we almost never saw her again. Both straws were cracked from top to bottom. We flipped our card over to begin meat service, though we were not noticed. After flagging one down, We kindly asked her to find our server for us. This came with a disgruntled face. She left before serving us, and the meat that she had never came back around again. This happened more than once. The first meat I received was the lamb chop. Just one left on the skewer. I took this one knowing more would follow. I WAS WRONG! We sat by the window where you could see the meat cooking and there were less than 10 skewers. The chicken lollipops and the bottom sirloin were fabulous. The flavor and tenderness were 10/10. But would never be seen again.. Pork once; at the very end. Overcooked and dry. Same with the bacon wrapped filet and the picanha. Never saw filet, sausage or any other meat that was listed on the menu. We had to ask for more meat to be brought to us and what we received had been cooked to death. The hot and cold salad bar options were great! Once our server was finally tracked down, we asked for refills on our beverages and working straws, though no luck on the straws. They were all broken. It even cut my tongue. I requested she bring my husband two glasses of his drink this time, because he is a fast drinker, and we weren't sure when we would see her again. Thank goodness I did; Because he would have never had another drink if it wasn't for that... Before we had even finished eating, she brought the bill. We ignored it and continued our conversation, but sometime minutes later she retrieved the bill that was not yet ready. Moments later, she came rushing back frantic that she had lost our card... Finally after all this, I gave her with the card before I even had looked over the bill. The bill was higher than any steakhouse we've visited like it. Despite having the worst service. We ordered nothing other than a fountain drink each with our meal. We STILL left a large gratuity knowing tips are shared. Side note, no plates have been picked up, and are stacked up to the side... I wanted a ToGo drink, but once our bill had been rendered. We never saw our server again. I flagged down another staff member and made the request to them, (Usw tea) and was served a Sw tea. I am unable to have sugar and this was a shock when I took a sip. I immediately notified her of the mistake, not even 10 seconds after it being delivered, and she went to correct it. She came right back to tell me that the tea had been dumped for the night. WE ARE STILL EATING AND THERE ARE MULTIPLE TABLES EATING AROUND US IN THE DINING ROOM! I genuinely do not understand how this is allowed! The clock strikes closing and you treat your guests like they've overstayed their welcome?? Revoking their beverages and not cooking/providing the meat that your customers come to eat their fill of?! At this point we are seriously turned off! After leaving..OUR SERVER..the one who vanished after bringing our bill in the middle of dinner...is outside on the phone waiting for her ride. No wonder we never saw her again! She was going home! Living in Gainesville, the closest Brazilian cuisine that you can find (without going to Tampa, Jacksonville, or Orlando) is in Ocala. I had wanted to check out Ipanema Brazilian Steak House for a while and finally got a chance to go with a friend on a Sunday for brunch. Compared to the dinner service, the brunch is $18 less and includes an omelette and waffle station (with a variety of crepes and fresh fruit) plus the salad bar with over 50 items and the Rodizio (5 different endless meats), with a complimentary bloody mary or mimosa. For $38.95, this is an great deal. The salad bar was amazing, with meats, cheeses, breads, spreads, salads both hot and cold, savory vegetables, and pasta salads. The meats were succulent and the staff brings them right to your table. My bloody mary was average but it was nice that it was included in the brunch price. The only thing my friend and I wished was that the grilled pineapple, which was so perfectly grilled and caramelized, was brought around more. The restaurant wasn't too busy so we requested more of the pineapple but it wasn't cycled back through by the servers. This used to be one of the best restaurants for miles, but today we went to celebrate a birthday for 1 of our party of 4. We were seated for 22 minutes before someone came to our table to welcome us and take a drinks order and she appeared to be totally disinterested in making any effort other than " Can I get you a drink"?. So we went to the salad bar, which was as extensive and as impressive as all of our previous visits...there ended the upside. We were visited a total of 6 times, with 1 sirloin, 1 chicken, 2 lamb, 1 filet/ bacon and 1 sausage. We visited the hot selection and that up to its usual standard, but still no meat. After another 15 minute wait, of our total 1 hour and 4 minutes total, we were asked, by the young miserable looking girl, if we wanted more drinks, and she told us that the lemonade, which 2 of us drivers had, was additional cost, not free refills, so we politely declined. Then when the check arrived, a charge of almost $13 had been added as "card charge fee", and they had no idea if we were paying by cash or card. At $52.95 each, the Seniors rate, plus 1 drink each, card fee and tax, we were at $276 and change. We were very disappointed in the entire meal and lack of pleasant service. Our days using Ipanema are finished, and for that money, we have multiple options of proper full service restaurants, with certainly more food than we had been served. I would certainly not recommend Ipanema, especially for a special occasion, because this birthday was ruined, as we had assumed it would have been an extremely pleasant evening out, but it turned out to be just the opposite, we has suchhigh hopes....what a shame. read more

My best friend brought me here for the first time ever and it was okay. The parking is a little tight, but there are a good amount of spots. We were sat quickly and the service was good. We got there at 4:30 and they open at 4. I was thrown off by the sides being by the salad bar. The yuca fries were room temperature, the macaroni and cheese was room temperature, and the brazilian bread was hard and not warm. The salad bar is an okay size. The meats were really great which is usually what you come for so that was a win. The inside is very dark and dimly lit which I loved. My boyfriend took me here for a surprise date and we had a wonderful time. The food from the mini bar was delicious. I had some of the Alfredo pasta and the cheese was warm and stringy. There were also bits of salami and other meat and things that were pretty tasty as well. The main star of the show, the cuts of steak, were 10/10. I'm usually a very picky eater, especially when it comes to steak, but the cuts were all juicy, had nice texture and full of flavor. My night was made especially special after at first refusing the grilled pineapple but sneaking a bite from my boyfriend. I then took one of his whole strips and was addicted. Every time the waiters came around I would ask for more. The waiters could tell I was saying no to the meat that was coming around but I still had the card right side up which meant I was waiting to be served. One gentleman asked what I was looking for and I told him with a big smile on my face that I was waiting for more pineapple. He disappeared for awhile but came back with a black to go box filled with the pineapple letting me know that they were about to close soon but wanted to give me the rest. 10/10 will always recommend. read more

We read the reviews and hoped they were exaggerated. They weren't. The food itself is good, but the entire experience feels intentionally designed to give you as little meat as possible while charging premium prices. Between each offering, we waited 5-10 minutes, only to repeatedly be brought pineapple, chicken, or cheap cuts of pork instead of the meats people actually come for. It became obvious very quickly that they're playing a game -- dragging out service and rationing the better selections so you either fill up on sides or give up waiting. Over the course of the entire dinner, we were probably served five or six actual pieces of worthwhile meat. For a Brazilian steakhouse, that's absurd. The slow service, constant delays, and obvious stinginess completely ruined the experience. Delicious food means nothing when you spend most of the night sitting there hungry and frustrated. First off I have been too many Brazilian steakhouses so I know how it works, with saying that I was there visiting Florida this past week and Saturday night we went there for our dinner with my family. Well, holding the tongs and getting a piece of pineapple, I was stabbed in the finger to the point where the skin was flipped over and blood was literally pouring out of my finger, the piece of pineapple went flying and I said you just cut me. I'm bleeding. The guy didn't say a word and proceeded to show me how to use the tongs, with the blood pouring. When I told him I knew how to do this he went to the next person at our table with the same knife and started cutting more food for them. In the meantime I got up went to the front desk where the two girls were looking for Band-Aids, and telling them what happened as the blood was pouring down my hand. They went over to the buffet and took off a couple handiwipes to try and wipe off my finger. Then I had had enough. I had one lamb chop for dinner. Nothing else after I was stabbed. Every time they came to the table to serve someone else we were afraid we were going to be stabbed. Not once did a manager come ask if I was ok or anything. I wasn't charged for my meal, but everyone else was including the others the knife was used on to cut me. It was never cleaned or replaced. We wrapped my cut with multiple bandaids to get it to stop bleeding. When it was time for the bill the waiter asked if it was all on one bill. He looked at me and I just smiled. I thought he was going to die right there. As I left I said to the 2 girls at the reception that I thought a manager would have come to see if I was ok, she said the assistant manager came by and handed you a bandaid. I said she should have identified herself then. As i was going out of the doors 2 waiters were standing there and didn't know I heard them talking, saying we were told NEVER to say sorry. I stopped and said to them What? , and I repeated what they said back to them. I will definitely pass this information along to many in the Ocala area and the villages, as I will be living there soon, and the board of health for using a knife that stabbed me with, on other customers.
