Jerk Chicken with Peas and Rice
    Renee D.

This spot has been on my radar for quite some time and I finally had a craving strong enough to finally get me here. I had the medium jerk chicken platter with extra rice and peas instead of an extra side and extra sauce. The jerk was spicy and sweet. The peas and rice had the perfect texture. My only minor complaint is the way the chicken was chopped I often found tiny bones in my mouth that had to be spit out. That might deter me from getting that dish again but I'd be willing to try the oxtails and stew.

Only bc auntie wrote my order on the container and still gave me Mac and cheese when I asked for yams. Lol I wasn't upset tho because the Mac and cheese was so GOODT! I had it with yellow rice and fried whiting. Definitely want to come back, there are a few more things I have to try b4 I commit to them lmaooooo

I was not disappointed. Friendly environment. Quick and easy service. The food was absolutely delicious. They do have tables and chairs available if you want to eat inside. Please be warned, the jerk chicken is spicy. I'm sure that they can accommodate on the spiciness. Just let them know.

Phenomenal, authentic, spicy jerk chicken. Just excellent.

Why have I not eaten here before? As a qualification, I've Been all over the Caribbean and frequented Jamaica for years. Been to Jamaican joints all over the city and suburbs of Philadelphia. Love Jamaican food. Ordered a large jerk chicken with rice and peas and seasoned cabbage, A large ox tail with rice and peas and collards, And a large curry goat with green beans and collards. Everything was spot on and delicious The jerk chicken just displaced my old favorite spot and is now in my opinion the best in Philly. Five minutes before getting there to pick it up I remembered to call and ask for a spicy and I'm so glad I did. The sweet tangy spicy flavor of scotch bonnet was pervasive and the chicken was absolutely delicious. I swear I could almost taste pimento smoke. Maybe it was just the authenticity bringing me to a place where memories of smoking pimento wood crossed through my brain barrier to my taste buds...or could they actually do it 100% right in Philly?. Generous portion and lots of gravy on the rice and peas. Bonus. Seasoned cabbage also really yummy The ox tail was the perfect tenderness. Really delicious too. Also lots of gravy on the rice and peas and the collards on the side we're not dumbed down and had just enough bitterness and natural flavor to really be enjoyable. And the curry goat. Wow. Bursting with flavor. Super juicy. Tender. Love that it spilled over since the portion was so huge and got good juices into the green beans and collard's to give them an extra special kick and that wonderful Goatey punch. We will be going back and trying everything on the menu. After what we've sampled so far I highly doubt anything is less than excellent. Thanks for bringing it real and making me miss the island.

Flavor was great!!!!! Oxtails were huge, but they could've been a bit more tender with more gravy. I think the plantains were delicious.... I was a lil sad when I realized I ate them all haha. I think this place is solid, but I've had Jamaican food in the area with better food, portions & prices.

Jamaican food devours comes from Erie's Jamaican food restaurant in Brewerytown. I admire this restaurant very much especially during this time of Quarantine. The cuisine is very the service is very effective. The price is modest and affordable. I would definitely recommend this establishment! While here, I order the fried whiting with cabbage and white rice with jerk ox tail sauce. I also got the stewed Ox tails with jerk gravy/sauce with white rice and cabbage . The taste was absolutely phenomenal definitely gonna be my fried Frisch spot for the summer! If your ever in Brewerytown and you want some bomb ass Jamaican good?!? Oxtails taste sweet and needed salt and the right base for the sauce..was lacking the appropriate flavor profile. The rice tasted like basmati which is cool for Indian cuisines but usually with dishes like Oxtails or Jerk Chicken I'd expect red beans and white grain rice cooked in coconut milk for the flavor profile. Mussels are delicious, they just don't give you a lot of them if you go during any of their prefixed menu offerings. Coconut shrimp are good. Carrot cake was one of the best I've tasted in a long time. Even if your not a fan of carrot cake I think you'll enjoy. There weren't big chunks of fruit or nuts inside. It was layered, fluffy, moist, cream cheese icing spot on, just really spot on. I could have ordered a cake to go and left the food. Drinks are pricey for what you get in return. Some of the drinks are watered down, like their "Sex on the Boat." They give it to you in this cute boat shaped dish with a straw with flashing lights (photo/vid attached) but there's a ton of ice and not much alcohol or flavor. You also have to wait for your entire party before ordering appetizers. Very strange to me. Most places will allow you to order drinks and appetizers while you wait for the rest of your party. Also be mindful that there's an 18% charge for credit card. If that bothers you be prepared to bring cash. They typically will only allow you to split the check two ways so for larger parties it's best to bring cash to avoid confusion when everyone is paying for themselves.

So my brother and I decided to head over to see if what I heard was true. I'm happy to report, it was very very good! Some things to note: They take cash only. They have an ATM inside just in case, but make sure you have cash only you before you go. Make sure you pay attention when traveling to this establishment, as there are many intersections, one way streets, and streets that go from two to one lane. Also, there may be someone who will ask you to get them some food. Once we parked the car, we heard the reggae music coming from their front door. You can't miss it. The menu is on the wall, as well as being taped down to the counter by the order window. If they're out of something they will let you know before you order. When I went they were out of oxtail (a highly sought after dish in Caribbean cuisine). I had the jerk chicken with collard greens, white rice, and macaroni and cheese. My brother ordered the fried whiting, but I guess she didn't hear him correctly (trust me the music there is quite loud inside even though it's even louder outside), because he got the same thing I did. Now, we drove home, the car smelling amazing, and I forgot to take some photos for this review. But even so, I will definitely be back. The food was excellent, the prices were decent, and the service was fast. If you're looking for an adventure, check out Jamaican D's!

By the time they came over, I was already ready to order. I ordered the bistec encebollado and was impressed by the portion size! they give you a generous amount of steak. Unfortunately, the steak had quite a bit of fat around it, which isn't my favorite. When the food arrived, the rice was packed into a small cup, which made me think everything would be served hot. Unfortunately, none of the food was warm. Everything was room temperature and lacked flavor. Because it took a while for my meal to arrive, I got the impression that it may have been sitting out before being served. I ate it as it was because I didn't want to wait any longer. Taste-wise, the steak needed more seasoning, although the beans were good. Overall, the meal was average. After finishing, I asked for both a to-go box and the check. About 10 minutes later, the check arrived, but no box. One employee, William, really stood out. Whenever he stopped by, he was attentive, friendly, and on top of things. I appreciated his service and how proactive he was in checking on guests. Overall, the service had some delays, the food temperature was disappointing, and the flavors were underwhelming, not sure if I'll try this place again.
