I was very close to canceling and gave them a clear ultimatum that if they did not make the next day's appointment, I would walk away. To their credit, they showed up the very next day and they were on time. Two technicians arrived and immediately got to work. One was on the roof while the other worked in the basement, and it was clear they knew exactly what they were doing. They also explained that this is a family owned business, with multiple family members working together on the same jobs, which really showed in how coordinated and invested they were in the work. The scope of work involved installing a stainless steel chimney liner designed to properly vent double gas appliances, upgrading existing connections for safety and code compliance, installing two double tee connections, and finishing everything with a stainless steel top plate and rain cap. They also handled flashing and waterproofing by installing aluminum flashing with ice shield underlayment, carefully removing shingles as needed, and waterproofing the exterior of the chimney to prevent future moisture issues. What stood out most was their professionalism and communication. They explained each step clearly, answered questions without rushing, and made sure I understood why certain upgrades were necessary. We haven't been able to use our fireplace since Ace worked on it and installed a fan about 2 years…read moreago. $6k + and what was a perfectly well running fireplace is now unusable. The only reason I brought them in was to clean and make sure it was working properly. I've been told by others who have since tried to help us get it working that we probably need to remove the fan that they convinced us we needed. And charged us so much for. Even if the fan did work (which it doesn't - smoke billows into the living room -- NEVER did that before Ace came) the fan sounds like an engine on an airplane, which takes away any chance of enjoying a fire. I should have written this ages ago, but I was hoping we would figure out a way to make it work. If you have an older house, PLEASE find a company that knows what they are doing. He came to my house at the time of our appointment- I appreciated this a great deal as I work from home and have a schedule to keep. He inspected my chimney and noticed an issue I was having was caused by the damper as it was off track. He put it back in alignment and was happy to explain to me how to do it should it happen again. He inspected the flue and said it was very clean and hardly used. I figured that to be the case because in the 3-years I had the house, I had only used the fireplace 2x- both were the week before my appointment. The prior owners either didnt use it much or had it cleaned at some point before I purchased the home. The fact that he did not try to sell me on a sweep service that was not needed speaks volumes about his character. He gave me a number of pointers about starting a fire and maximizing its heat output, and told me things to be cognizant of to extend the life of the glass doors and system. The technician was incredibly knowledgeable, and even though he came on a Saturday at 3:30 PM he told me he could have the job done Sunday morning at 9 AM. Just as he said, they arrived Sunday morning and put the liner in. He told me the smell would go away, which I was very dubious about. However, he was correct. My home does not smell like creosote anymore. I saw this company had a lot of negative reviews and I just want you to know that they did right by me. Not everybody has a bad experience.
