My friend Tim and I popped in here to grab a drink and explore some more of Galesburg, IL. The outside of the building is quaint, but once you step inside, it's cozy and bright. I offered to buy the drinks for us and we ordered the same thing. I have ordered the same thing many times at other places (Iced Caramel Latte) and am used to what the average price is. Come to my surprise when my total for two drinks was about $12-$14. Usually I get a small or a medium, but they must've rang me up for the largest size they had, hint the crazy high price. But man, was it delicious and made me want more. Overall, I would come back again. They have a nice staff, it's bright and happy on the inside, they have a cool mural in the middle of the store and the coffee is delicious.

They roast, blend, and package their coffee in Dubuque, Iowa. Their name derives from a street in Iowa that contained only five houses comprised of the founder's family. In the early 2000s the street was annihilated to make room for highway expansion, but the name lives on in the coffee. For my first review from their brand, I went with a whole bean bag of their Shot Tower Espresso blend. The company describes that blend as having a " smooth yet sharp character with no bitterness. The delicately dark roast level results in a taste and aroma that is full-bodied with a sweet and creamy complexity." Beans for their signature espresso blend are selected from Central America, South America and Indonesia in order for a unique and nuanced flavor profile. Picked out what I wanted and ordered online...only to find out that my in-laws don't really use ground coffee, but single-serve instead. Agh! Once I found out this very-important-information, it was an 1.5 hours after placing my order. I emailed customer services asking about how I could change my order from ground coffee to single-serve. Eric immediately wrote me back and explained that it would be easier to cancel my order, then I could reorder what I did want, as they use a 3rd party credit card processor. I was instantly refund the $ I spent on my original order, so I turned around and bought the single-serve coffee instead. Less than 48 hours after placing my online order my in-laws received their coffee in the Chicago suburbs - super fast delivery. They were thrilled, and I can't say enough good things about Verena Street's products and their customer service. Would love to see them expand their single-serve coffee flavors in the future. The ability to choose a shipping date (especially for the holiday season) would be a nice option, too. Highly recommend.

Her first answer was just that 'beans come in weekly,' and only after I asked again did she check the bag, reading off a 'best by' date (10/22/26) rather than an actual roast date. The whole exchange had a bit of an attitude to it, like a simple question was an inconvenience. When I thanked her for checking, she hung up on me without another word. Disappointing, especially from a local coffee company. A roast date is a basic thing to be able to share, and the brush-off (and hang-up) isn't a good look. I'll be buying my beans elsewhere.

The coffee was awesome and I returned the next day. Thos time I got breakfast. The bacon grilled cheese was slightly disappointing. Only two small strips of bacon on this lovely sandwich. I didn't even taste the bacon and had to disassemble the sandwich to confirm that they even put bacon. I'll be back for coffee but not sure if I'll be ordering anything to eat. The dinning area is kind of noisy but the decor is great. There's only one cozy seating area and the rest are tables and hard back chairs. Staff was friendly and helpful
