Coffee was good, clean modern interior. Comfortable seating. Price was as expected for buying a cup of coffee at a local shop

"Double, double toil and trouble; Fire burn and cauldron bubble"…read more After the less-than-stellar americano at 392Caffee, Emily and I decided to get more coffee later in the day and Coffee Apothecary happened to be right around the corner from Five Cities Brewing. Talk about convenient. So, after a few beers and the best meal, we dropped in for one last hit of caffeine before finishing out the day exploring. When we walked in, they had just burnt some bacon, so the place was filled with smoke. Kinda fits the Apothecary theme, in my opinion. Since we had just eaten a big meal at Five Cities, we opted for just a drink. Emily got their special HeLa CELL and I got my usual americano. They were out of brown sugar for the HeLa CELL so Emily got it substituted with caramel. We waited just a few minutes for the drinks to be ready and decided that despite the smoke that was lingering around, we would sit there and play some Uno while recharging our batteries. This americano was exactly what I wanted all day. It was dark and bitter and delicious. I sampled Emily's drink and the foam and salt and caramel were a perfect combo. Compared to the other coffeehouse we visited, this one felt more traditional. It's a bit smaller so large groups might have to sit outside or divvy up between tables. As for the aesthetics of the place, they really play into the apothecary theme. It felt rustic and antique in there, between the decor and the images on the wall. It almost reminded me of Little Raven Creamery that was open in Peoria at one point. If you find yourself in the Quad Cities and want a nice change of pace from your usual coffeehouse, give Coffee Apothecary a try. Hopefully the burnt bacon smoke will be gone by then. Not entirely sure why one of the workers didn't prop a door open to help air it out but it was like 95 degrees outside so... don't blame them for wanting to keep the shop cool. Sidenote: I do wish they had their logo that I saw on their Facebook available on either a magnet, sticker, or shirt. I love the look and vibe of plague doctors so to have that on something I can put up at home or wear would be sweet. Maybe they will have some merch in the future! Until then, stay caffeinated!

A coffee…read moreshop that doesn't offer a cortado was surprising, and the drinks we ordered were overly sweet and syrup-heavy. The Americanos were mostly water and filled to the very top, leaving little room for proper coffee flavor. Service was equally disappointing. The staff was abrupt and unwelcoming, and at 3:00 pm we were told, without courtesy, that they were closed and needed to leave. No polite request, just a blunt statement. Poor service paired with subpar drinks made this a place I would not return to or recommend.

This is truly a coffee house and they just…read moreadded food for the sake of and I felt they need to 1) stick to coffee or 2) revamp their food items. I ordered the fried egg with chorizo and it was a sausage patty marinated in chorizo flavoring?? The egg had zero seasoning, not even salt and pepper. And the English muffin was hard. I wouldn't get this item ever again. Additionally the food was out and ready before I could even pay and tell the cashier thank you. Thanks for the jimmy John's speed, but I feel they could've used that time accordingly to season my food and maybe chop up the chorizo.

Redband delivering that espresso punch I love so much…read more On a free Saturday where I find myself up in the Quad Cities, my friend Cassey and I drop in for a quick cup of coffee before heading to a beerfest event. I needed something strong and I needed it an hour ago. Luckily Redband was on my radar and it was on the way to the event. If you've read any of my recent coffee posts, you know I love a good espresso with a solid punch to the mouth of bitter. So, I was delighted to see they had an americao on the menu. I ordered it iced like I usually do and Cassey got her usual breve. The barista disappeared to the back of the shop and started preparing our drinks. Walking in, you notice there is nowhere to sit and there is a sign on the wall that tells you that the waiting area has a maximum of 4 people and all items are 'to go'. A very unusual arrangement considering there seemed to be a full-sized building for Redband next door... but the entrance to the parking lots were blocked off. It almost felt like this building was the roasting facility and the one next door is the proper coffeehouse but I forgot to ask whats up with that. Any who, the lady came back with our coffee and we made our exit. I took a sip a few steps outside the door and I was floored by the bitterness. It was strong. Stronger than was I was used to and I loved it. The level of bitter made it a slow drink, which is fine since I can down almost any drink in a minute or two if I am not conscious of trying to pace myself. There is another location and that one is located in a really cool, unique building. I really want to try it but don't know how often I can pop into the Quad Cities just to try out coffeehouses but where there is an americano... there is my desire to go there.
