Would rate this as solid 4 star bbq spot. Had a decent sampling of most of the bbq, everything was decent. Not the best bbq I've ever had, but met expectations. Decent flavor, everything was tender. I ordered the 3 meat bbq sampler, unfortunately was left disappointed. For the brisket, what wasn't chewy was loaded with fat. The pork was alright yet greasy. I was not a fan of the brisket chili, it was okay. The Mac and cheese seemed very old and bland. The garlic bread was not worth mentioning. Arrived at 6pm - The friendly bartender brought my wine and food right away. Excellent happy hour all day!!! I had the house moscato - $5 for the first one $1 for the second. Next time I'm gonna try the well liquor buy one get one for $1. The guy next to me had Jack Fire (Jack w cinnamon). He said it was like fireball but better. I had the baby back ribs, fried corn on the cob, and Cole slaw. I'll probably try the brisket next time w some different sides. I had the seasonal banana and pecan ice cream. I'll probably try the chocolate brownie next time. I haven't found any food items that I can't live without. I prefer my entre on the hot side. This was served barely warm. It's close to the hospital so I'll be back out if convenience. Parking is free. It's attached to the holiday inn. If you're staying there, the rooms do not have microwaves. read more

This review is for the awful delivery experience I just had. Ordered the 2 meat sampler with jalapeño sausage, brisket, loaded baked potato and beans. What I got was a gross chicken finger sandwich I had to throw away. I mostly hate chicken. This was 30.33 on my credit card that included an undeserved tip. DoorDash arbitrarily refunded 21.90 of it, so I still got stuck paying gor the aggravation of not getting my order and tossing the garbage they gave me where it belonged...in the bin at the curb. 2 out of 6 had a good meal. The brisket was really fatty and not smokey. The corn side dish was good according to 2 diners. The pork was just ok. The grilled chicken on a salad was a generous and tasty said another. The baked beans were pretty good. Worst item was the Mac and Cheese and the brownish "Texas Toast" both were just not palatable. Best BBQ I have had in a long time! Chopped pork was soft and flavorful. The brisket was smoked to perfection. Had the two meats along with sides of coleslaw (just the right mix of sweet and savory) and a bowl of smokey and tangy baked beans. The menu had lots of great choices from burgers to BBQ and some seafood entrees. Started off with a very smooth and sweet bourbon slushie and some fried pickle chips. The pickles had a really unique smokey crust that paired with the dipping sauce made it a wonderful accomplishment to the slushie. I ordered Tony a Bud Light Draft they have 2/$5 Special every day all day... I got a Pepsi... We ordered a 3 meat sampler platter to share with Baby Back Ribs, Pulled Pork and Jalapeño Cheddar Sausage with garlic butter toast and 2 sides we chose Mac n cheese with baked beans. Our lovely attentive waitress was very nice and helpful but I didn't catch her name. Tony and split the plate a d it was delicious Baked Beans to die for!! Perfect Mac n cheese very cheesy , a tad dry but I would order again. The pulled pork was our favorite. We enjoyed both the spicy and sweet BBQ options on our table. The baby back ribs were extremely bare with so much dark black char, they were just too dry to really enjoy....very disappointed there! But we will definitely go back. Been here several times BUT the location in Ashland, KY will always shine brighter than here. Service is marginal with some glimmers of hope. A couple servers really do well but others act put out. Food quality has gotten better. Impossible to reach management about a charge to my room. Had to reach out to Holiday Inn to get it taken care of. I was assured that management would call me back. My husband and I arrived yesterday at the Holiday Inn, where this restaurant is located. The staff encouraged us to try it and offered 10% off a visit. We happily headed down to the restaurant, where we were seated immediately. There were at least five people on staff, and there was only one large group in the restaurant. We waited for a server for nearly 20 minutes and were completely ignored. We finally left, passing four women at the front podium. We just had a delicious breakfast at Smokin' J's Rib and Brewhouse. The breakfast was very tasty. Our server, Andriana J. was really accommodating! She went above and beyond taking care of us! We changed table locations. She turned the music down for us. And she checked on us multiple times for refills. We, also, ate dinner there last night. They also never came by to get us refills, we had to go to the bar to get them. The food was just simply awful. The Mac and cheese was cold and stale, the ribs were burnt and tough, and the garlic toast soggy. My friend said his beer battered fish didn't have any taste. Unfortunately we did not have a positive experience. We were here on a Saturday morning. The only breakfast option on that days was the buffet. The food was cold, and neither toaster was working for the bread and bagels that were on the buffet. I would unfortunately not recommend. Wow. What a train wreck. Sat for 10 minutes-at the bar- before I was even acknowledged. By acknowledged I mean having a couple of menus chucked at me. The guys that walked in five minutes after me were eating before my order was even placed. We had Pig Skins (potato skins) tasty but cold. Sausage with jalapeño cheese, tasty but cold. Baked beans good and warm and fried corn which was still on the cob not like Mexican fried corn but that's on me. Had a chance to try Smokin J's for lunch yesterday with a local client. Quick, friendly, and efficient service. Their smoker on the Patio is pretty slick to check out as well. Food was great. I had overdone it a bit the days before so went with the smoked turkey sandwich with a side of green beans. The turkey was great Smokey, moist, and very tender with crisp lettuce and fresh tomatoes. The beans reminded me of the ones Grandmom used to make with loads of ham in them for flavor. Rest of the group went with the pulled pork and were quite happy as well.
