If you're looking for a high-end, fancy gym with the most updated equipment and a smoothie bar then do not come to Iron Works Gym. This place is an old school fitness facility that's been around Bellevue before the high rise apartments around it. I dig it. I visited Iron Works Gym on a Saturday morning to work out with my partner who's a member here. Iron Works Gym is located east of downtown Bellevue by 520 and Bridle Trails in an older business strip. The space is large enough, with three separate workout rooms, one for weights, one for cardio equipment and the other for circuit and stretching. Although the equipment has seen better days, it gets the job done. It's a little outdated, but is still functionable. There are TVs around, shower, bathroom and lockers. I will warn you that there is no AC here, so get ready to sweat even more. On nicer days, they open up the garage doors for some air flow. Membership here is very affordable. If you want a gym that's cheap with no BS and allows you to work on you, then Iron Works is a good option for just that. read more

I just want to start off by saying I am almost always repelled and intimidated by all gyms. Too crowded, too loud, etc. but Iron Works Gym is totally different! This review is mainly in regards to Coach Mihai and his ability to take me from zero cardio ability and no strength or endurance to finally 18 pounds lighter, stronger, leaner and finally have endurance, but above all extra energy! I began with Coach Mihai around March 2019 and have seen really great progress in the last 4 months! The gym itself is very low key and welcoming and everyone who either goes there or the various trainers who are consistently in the building are super nice and respectful. I can genuinely say this is the first personal training experience I have actually 'stuck with' and Coach Mihai's method is typically only 30 minute sessions which mentally makes it easier to complete 30 minutes as opposed to a full hour, especially when just starting to get back in shape and on a consistent workout schedule! read more

Iron Works is a great classic bodybuilding era gym. It's small, local, and the staff and clientele all know each other. It's got all the essentials you would need including benches, squat racks, deadlift platforms, machines, cardio equipment, free weights, sleds, and tires too. They have a real focus on bodybuilding and fitness. Their dumbbells go up to 200 lb and their plates are those circular, steel ones with the smooth backs. They even have 1 lb plates! Pictures with famous bodybuilders line the walls and the owner himself is a beast. Iron Works is a great classic gym with a good community too. read more

I have been to some awesome gyms in Canada and USA. That being said, I feel like my expectations and standards are a bit higher than normal. I absolutely love working out at Iron Works for multiple reasons. First of all, this gym doesn't make you feel intimated at all. I remember walking in on my first day and asking for help with a few equipments and everyone was extremely helpful. Even though, back then I did not know what I was doing with a few machines that I wasn't familiar, I felt like the staff was always helpful and never judgmental . I love how when I am working out, Tim (the owner), will always give me good tips on proper form and how to lift correctly. I feel like in other gyms, you would not get this type of treatment because they are either too big or people are not as caring. Second of all, I love how in the middle of pandemic, everyone is extremely good about wiping their equipment and using their masks. I also see on a daily basis, one of the staff members cleaning every single spot in the gym. Bathrooms and the entire facility is always impeccable and extremely clean. This certainly makes me feel a lot more comfortable working out there. Lastly, the parking and location is amazing. I never have issues with parking and love how well located this place is. If you are in the market for a gym in Bellevue, you should definitely give this place a try and you won't be disappointed! read more

Iron Works Gym is a smaller-sized gym that is priced relatively well compared to the other gyms in the area. It is a very old-school feeling gym. There is pictures of bodybuilders that have been in there on the wall as well as some celebrities that will get you motivated to train hard and get swole! This place is always busy no matter what time you go in, but during peak times (after most people are off work) parking spots can be hard to find at times as it is limited. Tip - if the parking spots are full, check the back of the building! There are usually spots available there during peak hours! Personal Trainers here are not gym employees, but are more like contractors that show up only when they have appointments. The few staff that do work here are very nice and will spot you if you need assistance. Some of the equipment here was starting to get worn down, but they seem to be gradually replacing these machines/weights. All-in-all I love to work out here and will renew my membership when it is time to! read more

I started going to this gym in early September 2020, deep in the pandemic. I pay for the monthly membership and have already committed to going for a year. As a facility for working out, this place is fantastic. It's large, there are lots of specialty machines and the membership price is too good to be true. As long as it's not Monday night, the gym doesn't feel crowded. It's also well maintained. I've never seen a machine broken, and everyone is really good about spraying and wiping things down after they use them. I have, unfortunately, on multiple occasions, seen other patrons working out while not properly wearing their masks (not covering their noses or pulled down below their chin). I would expect the gym staff to police this since we are still in the middle of the pandemic, but when I've brought up these incidences, I've found some of the front staff to not be wearing masks properly. I shouldn't have to tell the paid staff to ensure those using the gym follow basic government mandates. I also shouldn't feel like I have to tell other patrons of the gym to wear their masks properly because I can't trust the staff to do their job. Today I went to the gym with a friend of mine (side note, Iron Works also has an unbelievable day rate of $10). I'm required to work out as part of my profession, so I'm at the gym quite often and have my routines laid out ahead of time. My buddy struggles with working out, so he frequently follows what I do. I found myself correcting his form a few times because I don't want him to hurt himself. At the end of the workout, one of the managers asked me how long I had been a personal trainer, assuming my buddy was a client of mine. I stressed to him I was not and had only invited a friend to join me in my upper body set. The manager and I spoke for several minutes, and I had to stress multiple times I am not a personal trainer using the gym for my own business. He kept implying that I was and that he's open to working out a deal where I can bring my clients in on an official basis. I continued to stand my ground; I was only working out with a friend. I get the impression that the manager left our conversation feeling as if I was lying to him. The interaction left a weird taste in my mouth. Here's this awesome gym that I want to bring my friends to so we can give support to a local business during a pandemic. Instead, I left today feeling like the gym I happily pay for thinks I'm taking advantage of it. Am I not allowed to work out with friends? Do I need to do solo routines from now on to not raise unwanted suspicion from the staff and other gym-goers? I shouldn't have to be asking myself these questions. Oh, and all of this happened after I had to tell someone else at the gym to wear their mask properly. It's a shame the gym staff does not put as much energy into ensuring PPE compliance as they do with tracking down potential personal trainers. I'm hoping that I can go here someday and not have a negative interaction with the staff or another gym member. I just want a place to work out that is clean, well maintained, where I don't have to worry about my safety. That's all I ask. read more

This is a real gym. There are competitive training people right next to the 80 year old husband and wife working out. Everyone is respectful to each other and the women aren't leered at or hit on (at least from what I've witnessed). Good personal trainers are available here too. It's very reasonably priced. I looked forward to working out again soon after this latest lockdown. read more

I was new in the area when I was looking for a gym where I could work out. As a woman is difficult to find a gym where guys can't look at you when you're working out lower body. Iron works gym is the exception! I've been going for more than a year and a half because I love this gym, employees and personal trainers are so nice! and guys are not that creepy as in others gyms. The gym is more than just a place I work out. Beyond being a great fitness facility, fastidiously clean, with up to date machines and accessories, the community of members is exceptional. I work out every morning amongst my friends. The owner, Tim, makes an effort to talk to all of us, address us by name and ensure our needs are more than met. From Jose, the maintenance man, to the front desk to the trainers that coach at the location, everyone is friendly, warm, approachable and never overbearing. My 1-year contract ends in August, and after having spent a full year dedicated to powerlifting at this gym, this is still to me one of the best heavy duty, well-equipped gyms available anywhere on the Eastside. It was my second home for a while. The sole reason I'm not renewing my membership is because I've put powerlifting aside to do competitive bodybuilding under private instruction. Strangely, looking as if I am about to lay a gargantuan turd on the ground with a 7-foot Olympic bar on my back lost its appeal after a bit. A noteworthy thing about Iron Works is that it's not air conditioned. Being that Seattle only gets above 80 degrees for 1 month out of the entire year, you'll get over it. 10 Reasons Why This Gym Will Make Your Areolas Drip Milk: 1.) This gym isn't anywhere close to having the same mentality of LA Fitness and 24Hr Fitness, where it's built on a ground that nurtures egocentricity and asshole dominion. 2.) The majority of the gym-goers here do not strive to be the biggest, hairiest, ugliest skag in the room. 3.) They are loaded to the ceiling with all of the equipment one could ever want from medicine balls, free weights, power racks, dumbbells, boxing, sled drag, assisted machines, cardio machines, etc. 4.) They are not loaded with bejeweled pink, 2lbs dumbbells that couldn't sculpt my big toe. 5.) People here work hard. I saw a person here squat 450lbs. I wanted to be all, "Umm, how do you want me?" 6.) It's a small, intimate gym where people know you and recognize you to establish a positive rapport. 7.) They allow the use of chalk, provided you clean up after yourself. 8.) Their sign-up process and guest policies are no hassle. 9.) It's never too crowded. This means you don't have to listen to incessant, unending stories about her pressure-cooker techniques into coaxing her man to eventually desire a marriage with her. Nor do you have to listen to explicit details of last week's sexual voyages describing how his dick looked and felt. 10.) I'm going to start this off by saying I've been to A LOT of gyms. From Armbrust to the OG Metroflex, from Lift factory to Gold's, you name, I've picked things up there and say them down. This gym tops both my husband and my own lists. We LOVED every moment here. I'd MOVE to Seattle just to lift here. It's small and low key, but spacious and well equipped. The flow of the gym is very functional, the equipment up kept, and the energy is electric. I've had the best three lifts I've had in a while here and no it wasn't the slightly caffeinated Seattle water. This gym is something special and the owner is too. A gym can have it all and still fall short if the members and management don't do their part, and this guy is a star. By far the best gym owner I've come by, and we own a gym, so you could say that's a pretty large compliment. If I do return to Seattle, it won't have been for the space needle or parks, but for Iron Works. read more

As other reviews have mentioned, IronWorks is not a flashy, sparkly health club. Luckily, I do not look for such a place. I am reviewing this gym as a dedicated powerlifter. All in all, IronWorks is a good place to work out. They have a good variety of equipment, two power racks, a free standing squat rack that actually allows a proper squat, lots of barbells and plates. I don't use machines and treadmills, but they appeared to have a sufficient quantity in good shape. IronWorks has a few qualities that I look for as must-haves: it doesn't get too crowded, the plates are round (a must have for floor-based exercises like deadlift and power cleans), and they let you use chalk. They definitely get big points for that. I'm less impressed with the bench presses - there are two of them, and while they do the job, they are directly in front of a big window / garage door and they get very hot when the sun is out - even in December. I haven't been to IronWorks in August, but I am wary about the prospect of benching there on a hot summer day. The gym is kept in good, clean shape. All of the staff I've dealt with are friendly. Locker rooms are fairly no frills, but they do the job. I've never had a problem with other clientelle - they're respecful and put their weights away when they're done. In the end, if you're looking for a gym on the eastside to get a serious workout for a good price, IronWorks definitely fits the bill. read more

I've been powerlifting for 6 years and this gym suits my needs perfectly. That being said, it also caters to amateurs. The Good: - Everyone is friendly, but you don't have the guys conversing in the middle of the floor for 20 minutes at a time. No one pushes you around or rushes you off equipment. There are no ego competitions or guys only there to show off for girls or vice-versa. - I've been at the gym at my school or at places like LA fitness in the evening after work, and you might as well not even show up because of it being too crowded. Here, even at "peak" times I have no issue getting what I need. - Have a great functional training room with turf floor, sleds, ropes, and other random stuff - its cheap if you buy a year up front (like $25/mo?) for the amount of equipment you get - Can use chalk if you clean it up afterwards Bad: Only about 15% of the barbell clips actually hold weight, they could use some new ones read more

For anyone tired of the 24hr and anytime fitness scene, in Bellevue there is a great gym called Iron Works! They've got three sections -- cardio, strength and conditioning, and weights. Amongst their equipment is Mark Bell's slingshot, EFS SS Yoke bar, a reverse hyper attachment, conditioning tire, sled, and turf and a lot more. I like barbell training for strength. To do this you generally need the bar, weights, a power rack, and a bench (at a minimum). This gym has two power racks and a squat rack, so I don't have to wait much even if That Guy is doing curls in the squat rack. There are a couple of smith machines if that's your thing, and then the usual array of isolation weight machines. There's nobody here pushing me to pay for a trainer. Nobody interrupts me. All the staff are friendly, and I really rather like coming in. There's not a lot of frills, though. Bring your own towel. Expect to take up an interest in the golf channel every now and again. I love this old school gym that is not a club. Everybody ends up knowing and supporting each other here.There's enough equipment for weight lifting (3 squat racks), plenty of free weights and barbell, and cardio machines. Everyone is aware and good at working in with other people, even if you're doing supersets. The ladies' changing room is spacious and always clean and there are some free supplies for everyone to use (hair dryer, hair spray). I've been using gyms for 15 years, and iron works is great if you're looking for no frills and real, friendly people. Golds, 24 hour fitness, those are very sterile and (for some reason I'd love to know) no one makes any eye contact! What's the deal? Pro club . . . no one makes eye contact and it's so over the top luxurious, you can't work out there without feeling like a asshole. Ironworks is perfect. Good equipment and lots of it. Real people. Management/ownership that actually care about the people who use the gym. For example, there was recently an issue with the main machine I use there. I mentioned it, they fixed it within a couple of days, seemed genuinely happy to tell me it was fixed -- they know I really like the machine, and they asked me how it felt after the repair, etc. Also, I can't speak for the men's, but the ladies locker room is functional (a couple showers, a private changing room, lots of room to get ready) and comfortable/well designed. read more
