Over the past decade, I've graciously bled pools of sweat in gyms all over this metro, from CrossFit barns to bootcamp-style conditioning, most recently completing about 18 months at Orangetheory, where I sustained several minor and debilitating injuries. I gave it my all, spent a pretty penny on physical therapy, and finally decided to ditch the treadmill for spin classes. But Spenga's much more than a spin scene. You do 20 minutes on a bike, 20 more on the floor (free weights, kettlebell, TRX, BOSU), and 20 minutes of yoga. Originally, I definitely had reservations, but now that I'm about two months in, I can emphatically state the following: * I burn 700-900 calories per class * The yoga is super good for me * The music's pretty good (better than OTF) * It's more affordable than OTF * The instructors are polished and personable * The facility is spacious and clean * I'm injury free From a community standpoint, this place is more of a drop-in-get-it-done-and-leave kinda situation, which is great with me, but if you're more motivated by a gym full of besties, look elsewhere. I'll note they could get better at correcting form, and I would appreciate more class options, but I've never lost a penny from a late cancellation (there's no need to reserve ahead of time) and I could be wrong, but I think I'm actually seeing the results of these workouts. The entrance is towards the back of the building and I was a little confused but then saw people walking that direction, so it all made sense. I was greeted right away by members. First up were heavy back squats and I was immediately approached by a member asking if I wanted to share a rack with her. That made me feel so at ease since there aren't a lot of racks. She was so friendly! The coaching was on point and the energy levels were high. When I was walking out, I had two different members ask me if I needed a ride anywhere. How awesome is that?! Anyway, this place has a super friendly vibe and an amazing community. I'm so happy to have dropped in here and will definitely be back the next time I'm in town. I love seeing crossfit communities thrive like this post pandemic. It's so heartwarming.

It is a pretty pricey membership to attend, but now that there are two locations, it does make it better value. If you miss a day or two, or even a week, it makes you regret spending a lot of money for a membership. That helps me be consistent, but it isn't always affordable or within my budget. I have recently re-joined after injuring myself likely due to heavy lifting worsened by my job of having to hike daily. I like that most of the trainers are well versed in how to modify the movements and keep it from hurting myself further. I wish that Cedar did more of the training herself because she is top notch. I appreciate trainers looking out for proper form and hope that going here will help me rebuild muscles and stabilizers for me to continue my journey.

This isn't to say that they go "easy" on you...these coaches will push you to your utmost potential as you evolve towards your fitness goals. Whether those goals are to lose weight, gain muscle, or just get healthy, they provide the tools and motivation to help you do your best. One thing I value more than anything about CedarFit is the community. It is one big happy family. One concern I had before starting was that it would be clicky or that people would be judgemental.
