I've been with Kaiser HMO most of my life so this was my first time being seen by a Dermatologist using my PPO insurance! I called and spoke to Sai who assisted with scheduling my next day appointment, verifying insurance, and getting me set up on the portal so that I could complete my paperwork prior to the visit. There is a good amount of paperwork but the team is there to help via phone/text/in person if you have any questions. The paperwork is also very thorough so you understand the office's policies and know what to expect. They are not in the plaza with the restaurants, they are in the plaza right next to it. There is plenty of parking in front of the office. When you walk in, you're greeted by the front desk and cozy and inviting lobby area. Theresa at the front was very friendly, checked me in, double checked my paperwork and processed my copay. I didn't wait long and was brought into the room shortly after. The two team members doing the pre-visit screening were also thorough and friendly. Dr. Marjon was approachable and punctual. She was knowledgeable and answered the questions regarding my skin concerns. After the appointment, I was given a fun sample goody bag and my prescription was sent to my pharmacy. I don't recommend them. The doctor was fine when I actually went for the visit. [[HIGHLIGHT]]However they do all communications through a third party service so you have no way of actually communicating with the doctors front office.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]Every call is just a message that goes to the doctors office and you have to wait for a call back.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]But the call center literally told me "I cannot promise you will hear back"[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]. This is after I got a mole removed and I'm waiting for the test results to see if it's concerning or not. Go elsewhere. This is just a mill. Also one last data point for consideration , I never trust a doctor that REQUIRES you to sign an arbitration agreement. That means that they are over worried about litigation more so than other doctor offices. Legitimate offices will only ask for it but won't mandate it. This signals that their insurance probably is requiring it, as a condition perhaps because they get more claims against them than other doctors in their network. After this experience I can see why. Won't go back. During my visit, the doctor misdiagnosed my shingles as "deodorant irritation," and the entire consultation lasted under five minutes. She was sarcastic and cut me off while I was trying to explain my symptoms, which made me feel dismissed. I also ended up having to pay some out-of-pocket costs despite the incorrect diagnosis. Looking for a more experienced Doctor to take my concerns more serious in my specialty treatment and a more organized, on top of it, and kind clerical desk. I can tell he has experience as they state because he knew exactly the speciality medication I was referencing and suggested the same family of specialty medication that is stronger, but with proper labs before I start of course. Probably a good idea not taking insurance, seeing how you like your payments to be paid in full the day of and/or with in 3 days after office visits. Proofing the photos. This is your practice and you implement these policies! I have and everyone else have the right to question what they don't understand. I addressed my question and frustration to YOU and you told to call the number on the back of my insurance card. Insurance rep confirmed that it's NOT a common practice to collect that many office visits and to collect the full amount of the procedure upfront. I'm not sure what good it would do to talk to your Billing Manager.. to which I did and she will relay the same concern and frustration I had back to you!?!? ZERO STARS. Find another dermatologist to go to. This place has Unethically billing practice a doctor who won't take accountability and is also condescending. I have never been to an in network doctor that requires a CC on file +3% processing fee, make you PAY for the Full Balance of the procedures up front AND will automatically collect any balances 72 hrs after billing. I was billed on Friday 11am and automatic charged my CC at 10am on a Monday morning)! She in network and charged me 3 office visits AND made me pay the whole cost ALL upfront (will refund what insurance covers, had to call to get a refund) all for the same issue. She billed my son and charged his CC 72hrs later! She collected almost $703.60 from me to remove a cyst. When i questioned why am i being charged for 3 office visit (consolation, day of procedure and removal of stitches) and paying in full when she's in networks with my insurance. Her reply was "if you don't understand.. you need to call your insurance. You know the number on the back of your insurance card? That's the number you need to call. They can be the one to explain those things to you". I'm well versed on the insurance lingo and normal billing practices.. that's why I question her and looks like she did not like that. So here's the kicker.. 2 of the office visit fees Was NEVER submitted to the insurance! Called my insurance and the rep confirmed my suspicions! This whole experience was very unpleasant. read more

Very convenient and efficient place to do your annual skin cancer screening! Parking was easy, and I really appreciate that there wasn't a long wait - my appointment was promptly taken care of and my office visit was quick and easy. Staff was very friendly and helpful, and Dr. M. is also easy to interact with. I was so happy to get a same-day appointment, as usually the dermatologists I've called in the past always have a several months waiting list. I like that Dr. M. left room for me to ask questions and provide clarity on what to expect every step of the screening and prevention tips. The office is clean and well organized, and I'll be looking forward to visiting again next year to hopefully get a clean bill of skin health. Negative stars if I could! [[HIGHLIGHT]]I had a horrible experience here.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] I took my family member here and they were seen by Dr. Koupaie. He spent no more than 1 minute with us. He brought in a needle and said he would inject steroid into 2 minor acne lesions that were a couple of days old (therefore didn't need injection). He didn't ask for consent, and he didn't go over the risks and the benefits. He then falsified the medical record to state that he did ask for consent and that he did go over the risks and benefits, essentially committing medical fraud. Because I brought up these concerns, I asked to be reassigned to Dr. Marjon, I was told this couldn't happen unless I was willing to pay all cash as only Dr. Koupaie takes insurance. Can you believe that? And also fyi per the California state medical board Dr. Koupaie has an official reprimand for unprofessional behavior and was disciplined for his arrest and conviction for making a criminal threat. If you want to be taken care of by unethical, lying physicians, this is the place for you! read more

Highly recommend! I've gone to the same NB dermatologist for over a decade but lost trust/ had bad experiences. Thankfully I found this Derm and am so happy. They were able to get me in within a week (vs months like my old derm), and were able to complete my full body exam and my specific concerns addressed right away. Further, the entire office was so professional and kind and the doctor had the kindest bedside manner and didn't just rush me like I've experienced before OR try to upsell me/ cut off and biopsy a ridiculous amount of moles just to charge me more. I brought my daughter in for a skin appointment because I chose this office specifically for their advertised integrative approach to treating skin conditions. We were genuinely excited and hopeful that we could get to the root cause of her acne in a more holistic way. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Unfortunately, our experience with Marjon Vatanchi was very disappointing. From the moment she entered the room, her demeanor felt cold, condescending, and standoffish. Instead of discussing integrative treatments, she immediately recommended strong prescription medications such as Accutane or antibiotics. My daughter is young and wants fast results, but as her mother I needed to express my concerns especially regarding Accutane. I was a patient with another local dermatologist and when I called during the holidays, they said the doctor had taken the month of December off. So I set out on a search for another dermatologist who was available sooner. I left a message and her office was very responsive. They were able to offer an appointment fairly quickly. The office is clean, beautiful and parking is very easy. She is my dermatologist for life! I would never recommend this office. They charge a $100 cancellation fee for appointments canceled within 24 hours and require a credit card to be kept on file so they can charge you if you cannot pay your deductible or other medical fees. They refused to accept my debit card, stating it was because there might not be enough funds to cover their fees. This practice appears to be driven entirely by money rather than patient care. Their policies show a complete lack of kindness, empathy, and basic compassion for patients, especially those facing emergencies or financial hardship. The level of greed reflected in these policies is frankly disturbing. read more

Please don't go here unless you're ready to be spam called and overcharged. Horrible experience here, such a headache getting refunded an illegal surcharge to my debit card. Also if you only give a debit card they have a policy where the next visit you have to pay a refundable $210 deposit to secure a second visit. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Had I known this before I would have never booked the first appointment.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] They say they will refund once insurance pays but considering how difficult it was to refund the illegal surcharge to my debit it would probably be a nightmare to deal with. Avoid This Dermatologist - Unethical Billing & Poor Medical Advice Let's start with her billing office--they asked me to send my copay through Venmo! When I requested a mailed bill (as I always receive from medical providers), they refused and insisted on Venmo, saying they don't send bills by mail. Just one hour after emailing me the bill, they called me many times in one hour, left voicemails, and harassed me, threatening to send my $50 bill to collections if I didn't pay immediately. Maybe I'm from another planet, but usually, when you receive a bill, you have at least a few days to pay--not just an hour! Now, let's talk about her practice. I originally came to this office for an annual skin cancer screening but also asked about my dark spots. She recommended cryotherapy (liquid nitrogen) to remove them. When I returned for the procedure, only at the last second did she mention that the treatment might not work and could actually make the spots worse--something she never disclosed in the first appointment. Since I was already there, I decided to treat just one small spot on my face. A month later, the tiny dark spot had grown to half an inch! I talked to another specialist, who was shocked that this doctor even recommended cryotherapy for my skin type. I was told that IPL laser is the correct treatment for my condition, but this office doesn't even have a laser machine (since it's expensive), so instead, they offered me an ineffective procedure with a 99% chance of making things worse. My advice: Stay away from this dermatologist and find a provider who cares about both ethical billing and proper medical treatment. Update: I saw the business owner's response. I appreciate your response. However, I want to clarify that everything stated in my review is an accurate reflection of my experience, and I stand by it. I am also prepared to follow up further if necessary. To address a new concern: Today someone from your office called me and informed me that I would now be charged an additional amount--beyond what my insurance already paid--because I left this review. They stated that the procedure was cosmetic, which contradicts the initial information provided to my insurance. Prior to my visit, I specifically requested the procedure code from your office and confirmed with my insurance company that it was covered, with a $50 copay. At no point was I informed otherwise. If this procedure was, in fact, cosmetic, then misrepresenting it as a covered service to my insurance raises serious ethical and legal concerns. Regarding the billing issue, I was asked to use Venmo, which is not a standard medical payment method. Additionally, I received multiple calls within an extremely short period, creating unnecessary pressure to pay immediately, even before I had time to resolve the issue. As for your claims of defamation, I want to be clear: Honest, firsthand patient experiences are protected under consumer rights and free speech laws. If your office wishes to address any specific factual disputes, I am open to a professional and constructive discussion. However, threats of legal action over a truthful review may be seen as an attempt to suppress legitimate patient feedback.
