A very nice, often over looked, secluded rest area on the 101 north of Willits just about three miles past the Covelo road exit (hwy 162) with a nice mature shaded tree covered picnic area with concrete tables and benches, as well as a dog rest area, and maintained restrooms. This rest area has a circular parking area for cars as well as a pull through parking area for big rigs, RVs and travel trailers with large trees all around. This area is immediately before the restrooms, to the north side of the buildings. The park itself has a road frontage creek (cherry creek) that usually always has water running through it, and during the rainy season can be down right rolling with water from upstream. This quite rest area, is a great place to pull off the road to take a break that gets you off the highway, but is still relatively easy access back to the main road. This rest area is not very well marked, and it only has one sign on the highway. Be on the look out as you pass the hwy 162 exit for the signage, it is approximately three (3) miles north past this exit. A great rest area on the 101, that is often by-passed and well worth the effort the next time you find yourself on the 101 in northern Mendocino. 00157

Plenty of parking (we're about halfway down the parking lot) and 2 clean restrooms (for rest areas)

Great view from back picnic bench, away from highway. Also enough shaded parking along the side if you need a safety nap.

Pretty spot with a large clean bathroom. No overnight parking permitted & many highway patrol signs.

Stayed in an ocean view King bed room with balcony. Pretty windy and cool during our stay, but that didn't detract from our experience. The Inn Keepers, Karen and Clifford, are nice folks who are very helpful and welcoming. The weekday rates are a good value. We decided to stay an extra day which was on a Saturday. The rate increased with no value added--so that was disappointing. The room was clean and inviting--nicely decorated in a nautical theme. The one amenity that created a problem for us is the jetted tubs in the rooms. The people above us used theirs and the rumble it created was so loud that we had to leave our room and go outside for an hour. And this was after 8pm in the evening-- inconvenient for us, as we were settling in for the night. ( A suggestion would be to acoustically dampen the sound by dropping the ceilings and putting insulation in the room ceilings on the 1st and 2nd floors.) We walked to the wharf and had the most delicious pizza and fresh organic salad at the restaurant there. Pick your room carefully, as there are stairs and no elevator--which they explain in the room descriptions. All in all, we enjoyed our stay and would stay there again.

We spent two nights here celebrating my birthday and our anniversary, and it remains my absolute favorite place to stay on this side of the coast. Karen is such a wonderful host and truly makes you feel right at home from the moment you arrive. She prepared an incredible spread during our stay, including a delicious charcuterie board, flatbread, artichoke dip, and her famous "Slap Yo Mama" gumbo with fresh dipping bread. The name doesn't lie...it absolutely SLAPS! Hands down the best gumbo I've ever had. Room 120 was spacious and comfortable, with an amazingly comfortable bed and the perfect ocean view!! There is nothing better than lying in bed, watching the ocean, and listening to the waves. I also enjoyed a bubble bath with the jetted tub both days, which made for the perfect relaxing getaway. The balcony is nice with tall chairs and a table to enjoy a glass of wine (or three lol) in the evenings. :) If you're looking for a peaceful coastal retreat with exceptional hospitality, beautiful ocean views, and thoughtful touches throughout your stay, I can't recommend Wharf Masters Inn enough. We already can't wait to come back!!

I was a little hesitant to book a room here after reading really terrible reviews, but went ahead…read morewith a reservation anyway, because the price was right. Because... Let's be honest sometimes the budget IS a factor. I was looking for a hotel that only had one level, I didn't want to be above people listening to the noise they made underneath me, nor did I want to be beneath people to hear them stomping around all night. The price was right at this location and lucky for me, part of the property had one level rooms. I was told check-in was at 4pm however I didn't check in until a little after 10pm and found the person who checked us in to be very friendly and accommodating. Other reviews said the person that checked them in was rude and/or had an attitude however, I didn't experience that at all, quite the opposite. Also... Not sure if I got lucky but, I parked directly in front of my hotel door which was hugely convenient since the lot is "open" parking and FCFS. This check in was off to a great start! Upon checking into the room, (which I was very nervous about because previous reviews had some pretty scary looking photos), I was very surprised at the level of cleanliness that I found. I brought a black light flashlight to do a thorough check of the room and found it to be extremely clean. There was one questionable mark on the wall across from the bed, as well as something that glowed in the dark on the second bed sheet however, it was very small, and I ended up removing that sheet and not using it. The bathroom had zero items that illuminated under the black light. all of the towels were spotless (they were fluffy and the whitest white, which I completely welcomed) and the shower/toilet/sink, bathroom floor, the area around the toilet, EVERYTHING was spotless under the black light. I was over the moon with how spotless the room was. I even checked both headboards and nightstands and they were both spotless as well!! The room had blackout shades which I appreciated 100% because I like to sleep in until 9 and I like it dark! I'm literally like a vampire in the morning, and even the slightest bit of sunshine, pisses me off, lol. They do not offer toiletries however, there are stationary dispensers in the shower and the shower gel smells amazing. The room came with a tiny refrigerator with a tiny freezer in it which I was happy about because I used both the fridge and the freezer. It also had a microwave but no coffee maker. This was fine with me because I brought my own iced coffee, I travel prepared :) For all you yelpers that enjoy hotel coffee in your room, you'll have to go to the lobby to get it at this location. They do offer a very basic breakfast in the lobby as well but again, I brought my own food and didn't take advantage of the fruit or cereal and waffles for the guests. The beds were not right next to each other, one bed was in the front, the other in the back, which was almost like a 2nd room. Each room had their own ceiling fan above the bed. 2 beds, 2 fans. Love that! The only thing that was annoying, (which the hotel had no control over) were the guests leaving in the morning, slamming car doors, setting off car alarms, and yelling at each other from the room to their car. Rude!!! Just because they were up at 6 - 7am doesn't mean it's ok to wake up everybody in the hotel at those hours too. Idiots! Other than that, this hotel gets a solid 4 stars, I would definitely stay here again in the same upgraded room.

UPDATE 7/12/26: Check-in was easy, "Yogi" was cordial. Motel (because that's what it is) had ADA…read moreparking and a ramp, which was helpful for our group. Keycard worked instantly which is not always the case at other places. Room was outdated, but clean. Bathroom was large (again, ADA) all tile, floor to ceiling, but had grab bars everywhere, another plus. I saw the shed down the row mentioned in one review! Our BA window looked out to trees. Mini fridge was nice and cold, microwave worked great. Phone was in the room, but was unplugged and no phone jack, so just make sure you always have your cell phone charged, and NO USB ports. So bring a power strip, you'll thank me later. Blackout roll down curtains worked great, but close the bathroom door, super bright, as are all the lights in the room, including ceiling fan! Breakfast was modest, lobby was small but has a TV and seating. Glass Beach and Denny's are across the street, so you can walk or drive to park and take the trails. Hwy 1 Cafe is walking distance, as is downtown. Minimart is directly next to the property and open late. Bring extra sheets if you get cold, as the blankets are thin and the baseboard heater didn't work. Lastly, there was gap in one of the floor planks, could be a toe catcher. Overall, the property felt safe, we sat outside on the table upstairs and Yogi was super helpful and hardworking, all you have to do is ask. Kindness goes a long way! And there are NO POOLS.
