    Carpenter Theatre
    Nicole C.

A few weeks ago I had my first (arts related) visit to the Irving Arts Center, or at least the performance hall within known as Carpenter Theater. I was there for a spring performance given by the new Irving Philharmonic Orchestra. The facility was nice and spacious enough with ample outdoor parking. The staff on duty was friendly as well as helpful. The Sunday performance was beautiful as well as moving. I've only been an Irving resident for about 2 years, but passed by here several times I'm sure. I did come to vote on the other side of the property in 2020 and remember really nice outdoor mosaic art, murals and some sculptures. I love that they have so much art on display outside as well as inside. This probably won't be my last time coming here, especially now that I'm more familiar. Support the arts! I plan to continue to.

Wonderful multi-cultural and family/community events. I would encourage people to volunteer and give their time here.

The Carpenter theater is indeed, as other reviewers have pointed out, a wonderful space where every seat is good.

I highly this interesting exhibit, with caveats. It was very informative and I saw many new and…read moreinteresting details about the Sistine chapel that I had never realized. You will learn the extreme lengths Michelangelo went to over 4 years to create these paintings. You will see up close the fine detail and will learn where Michelangelo's self portrait is and why he portrays himself this way. Do NOT SKIP the audio device. I bought a VIP package, and the clerk only gave me the option to scan a bar code and listen on my cell. I did not being ear buds so this was a waste to me. Later, as the exhibit got busier, I saw the audio devices, so that was annoying that I wasn't given that option. Finally, the paintings followed a good flow but the informational panels and accompanying audio are numbered and the numbers do not match the flow. The hand held devices could simply scan in. I had to scroll through a website. I also did not like the lighting. While this is a temporary exhibit, the lighting could have been improved. I was not impressed with the exposed extension cords. Each exhibit had a stand alone light fixture, and most of the cord was tucked away. But the plugs were exposed. Finally the light itself was harsh. It looked good on the wall, but was glaring when you needed to read the informational panel. I bought a book for $12 at the end. It essentially shows each panel separately and contains the same information as the wall description. I would have loved to have this in my hand while walking through. Finally, don't miss the video presentations. I do recommend this exhibit. If they would spend a little extra effort, I would make it a high recommend.

I think the gallery was a fabulous size for the event and the various artists on display were so beautiful! Instantly, you'll arrive upon a quaint, bright, and modern gallery space filled with beautiful works of art. There are a variety of vivid and whimsical pieces that are sure to catch your attention. There are mostly abstract pieces, and some unique surreal pieces too. The medium used is mostly acrylic paints, which is a personal favorite of mine. Miss Ginger Fox herself doesn't pressure you or watch you while you view her gallery which is great. This little treasure trove of the Bishop Arts District is a must-see after grabbing some Eno's Pizza or Emporium Pies. There are some signs that say "No Pictures" though, so please be respectful to the artist. Pricing is in the thousands, but I think they're worth it. Every piece speaks for itself and is abstract enough to put anywhere in your residence. As an (amateur) artist myself, this gallery inspires me to experiment with more accidental, broad, and messy strokes. If in the area, you must peep through and get inspired yourself!

I was originally drawn to Giddens because I was looking specifically for Manuel Sarmiento's new 'home' after the Artisan's Collective in the BAD closed down (wahhhh) & found he has quite a bit of work here. Also my daughter needed to research female artists for her an art class assignment, so I just happened to be able to have my cake and eat it too here. That day we both accomplished our goals and she walked away with a plethora of (LOCAL) artists to be inspired by and bring to the attention of her instructors and classmates; I walked away with 3 pieces I LOVE. Two pieces (a sculpture and table) by Manuel Sarmiento & a diptych by Rosemary Riddle-Achelpohl. (See pics, aren't they amazing!) Let me also say that a great bonus to this gallery is that it's staffed by said artists, not just someone there just for a paycheck. What a joy to be able to speak with them about their work, hear their stories & see their passion for their craft. There's nothing like having a direct connection to the artists themselves. But don't fret, they know not only about their own work but have vast knowledge on all of the Gallery happenings and other artists showing in this gallery. So ask away about anything and if they don't know the answer they will jump through hoops to get it. Talk about Service! I was so impressed with the time and energy spent on both myself and my daughter in our different goals for the trip. AND when you're talking about Service, they not only delivered but the OWNERS of the gallery delivered to me. They are incredibly friendly, helpful and treat your new art and home with great respect and care. Cherie is also an artist featured in her gallery as well & it shines through that she truly loves both aspects of her profession; both being an artist AND representing the wonderful artists she curates. Don't miss this gallery if you are out shopping for art or if you're just in Grapevine and want a lovely experience seeing local artists' works. ------- UPDATE: kiddo had an assignment to hunt down artists to showcase at class again. I bought art again! It's impossible to resist when there are some truly remarkable artists represented here. Shockingly I didn't walk away with a Sarmiento piece this time. Picked up a watercolor by Naomi Brotherton that I'd eyed last time & couldn't stand to lose the chance to own this time around. The pic I took is awful, but if you know your art mediums, you can clearly see how remarkable it is that this was done in watercolor. Ms. Brotherton is truly mind-blowing in her talent, a master! As usual Cherie was helpful, focused, accommodating, knowledgeable, and a bonus; she's thoughtful. She remembers her clients on sight. She remembers what they bought. She cares! GO to GIDDENS!!!

Not only was it the first time I worked with this type of clay, but the learning experience was great in so many other ways. The techniques used have served Lorri well in her amazing art, which is displayed in private collections and publicly in cities everywhere. It was a joy to learn from her; she has a down-to-earth, laid back attitude and a great sense of humor. The others in the workshop were excellent to be with for the long weekend and the experience levels ranged from beginner to seasoned. Because the pieces were raku fired, waiting with the group for the pieces to finish was a fun and exciting time. I'd recommend this class to anyone interested in clay. Lorri and her husband, Adam Schultz, will be holding workshops at Holder Dane in March, with Adam's figurative clay workshop March 24-26 and Lorri's figurative paper clay workshop March 27-29. This is a rare opportunity that you won't want to miss!
