As usual, a wonderful production by Shakespeare In The Park, Dallas. My only complaint is that they decided to place the story in Mexico, and therefore, had changed some of the lines into Spanish. An interesting concept, but I don't know why anyone would think they needed to change Shakespeare's writing!!! The Taming of the Shrew has been performed for over 400 years, so it didn't need any rewriting! The cast was excellent, and thankfully, they left alone some of the famous scenes like, the first meeting of Patrucheo and Katherine; and the famous "sun and moon" scene. Definitely a show worth seeing and a lot of fun for the whole family! read more

I saw Taming of the Shrew Oct 9 2025! It was the BEST production of Taming of the Shrew EVER! It had Latino Infusion! Flamenco dancers in beautful black dresses with multi-colored floral print and some of the dancers were men! And Katarina the Shrew came out in the opening scene wearing red cowboy boots and red cowboy hat (hey this is TEXAS) and a whip! She was running around the stage whipping people! Then someone finally gets the whip away from her so then she was fistfighting people! No sexism here she was fighting men and women! read more

This was my very first time at Shakespeare in the Park over in Dallas. I would attend Shakespearean plays quite often in Houston and longed to do so again in the Metroplex. Having never been here before I was in for a treat but also not sure what to expect. I brought my lawn chair and a small ice chest of snacks and water. Suzzette, the Shakespeare Ambassador for the evening, was extremely friendly and welcoming. She came over to visit whenever time allowed. There was a half-hour discussion of the play prior to the opening act. Both directors gave a summary of the play and the history behind it. The costuming was exceptional, and the actors/actresses were top-notch. My favorite character was Ariel the sprite (fairy). Surprisingly, the prices at the concession weren't very expensive. Overall, the time spent was well-worth the drive. I am definitely coming back for another visit in the future. read more

Did you know Texas is hot in the summer? It is. Really, really, uncomfortably hot. BUT! Shakespeare in the Park is actually so good and so fun that it makes sweating on a picnic blanket drinking wine from a plastic cup worth it. Also? Shakespeare + wine = classy no matter what snack foods you're bringing. They do a few shows a year and they are always done SO well. The directors involved make great choices with the plays and I love going here with friends, bringing a picnic blanket or some low profile chairs (please don't be the dick who sits towards the front in a full height camp chair) and bringing some snacks! It is BYOB but they sell a few snacks and cold drinks (which you will probably need in the heat) but it really will start to cool off when the sun goes down. Definitely get there AT SEVEN though if you want a good seat and a good parking space. $5 cash to park in their lot. Members only sitting in the middle but the views from the sides are great too! Trust me, once you go you'll want to come back! It's fantastic and supports local DFW actors! read more

One of my favorite things to do in the summer. Part of this experience is luck, as cooler summer nights are the best to enjoy these outdoor plays. But the opportunity to picnic from twilight into the night and watch always amazing plays with modern twists is truly a great experience. The plays are about 2 hours long with an intermission and always have great actors and are very entertaining. Tips: bring plenty of drinks, bug spray, +/- sunblock. Note if you use blanket and sand chairs you can sit closer to the stage as high back chairs are only in the back. read more

What an awesomely pleasant surprise. With pretty modest expectations, we purchased tickets to see the SITP production of Comedy of Errors and were totally pleased with our experience. **My only word of caution is that the play is not held at the address in the Yelp review on Harry Hines but instead at Samuell-Grand Ampitheatre off of I-30. This caused some confusion and enroute googling on our way to the play** Pretty much any objection you could come up with would be mitigated by the experience. - it is cheap - only $10 per person! Other things we paid were $5 for the close parking, we brought a bottle of wine and some snacks, and a blanket (although you can rent sand chairs for $5). Additionally, we gave them a few extra bucks because it costs them about $20 per person just to put the show on each night! - it was FUNNY - it takes you about 15-30 minutes to readjust your ears to hearing ye olde english and iambic pentameter, but the actors are really talented and there is high production value. Everyone from young kids to couples to old people seemed like they really got a kick out of it. - it was relaxing - what a great evening sitting outside and watching a play! There is not a bad vantage spot in the entire stage area, so just bring your picnic gear with some snacks and sit back and relax! I was actually in Comedy of Errors back in high school and was super duper impressed with their production - great acting, costumes, technical aspects. Theatre fans of all ages and experience levels will really get a kick out of this experience! read more

Shakespeare is pretty le boring, but this place is so much fun! Show up early and bring your blankets, chairs, food, booze, whatever the heck you want. Then show up early and grab a spot and have fun hanging out with your friends getting your drink and grub on before the show starts. That's honestly my favorite part. The two shows I've seen were entertaining, but hard for my ADD brain to follow along at times. $10 to get in, and $7 for students and you can rent chairs here also. Also donate to the kids running around with the buckets. I don't imagine these actors make a lot of money. read more

I'm glad I tried it but I had my qualms with the Mid Summer Nights Dream performance. At times it was difficult to hear and see. There were many children running about...they were distracting to the show as they needed to be entertained. They show was alright but couldn't help but be bothered by the modern feel to the stage, act, and costumes yet nothing to the language used in the play. I mean, they had silk ribbon, cirque du soleil type stuff, modern clothes...and still used thy? It just didn't work for me. The beginning where they ask for money saying they only charge you like a quarter of the cost of production to see the show seemed odd too. I hate ploys for money. They send out the smallest children in the biggest oversized shirts they can find to collect your money. Just charge the amount you really want up front and don't try to make me feel bad and like I already received a deal. Not saying I wouldn't go again...just not eager. read more

What a completely fun date. Thanks to Yelp Talk, my hubby and I decided to hit up Shakespeare in the Park at the Samuell-Grand Ampitheatre for the last showing of All's Well that Ends Well. At $10 per person, it was significantly cheaper then the other things we were considering doing. Plus, besides being romantic, seeing Shakespeare under the stars sounds incredibly cultured and intelligent, doesn't it? We hit up Central Market for a killer picnic, and brought our own blanket. We arrived to find plenty of parking (free if you park on the street, or you can go in the lot for $5), and chairs ($5 for two, they were incredibly uncomfortable, I'd advise bringing your own). The middle area is members only, but most of the views are pretty good. It's so fun! Even though it was a hot day, it wasn't too bad at the beginning, and it soon cooled down to be pleasantly mild. The setting of a very simple stage backed by wild reeds and woods in the background is really pretty, and the late afternoon sun/sunset/evening sky is really romantic. The play was pretty well acted, and the sound was alright. We took advantage of the Paciugo gelato during the intermission, and all in all it was a completely romantic, fun, and cheap date night. Two things - bring your own chairs for comfort, or a big blanket. Texas ants are attracted to the food, and a big blanket is your only real defense. read more

Ok, I admit it. I was a theater geek in high school. Which means that Shakespeare in the Park is right down my thespian alley. My first Shakespeare in the Park experience involved Boone's Farm, Jack in the Box tacos and a plastic picnic tablecloth. This was before the grand stage, booming sound system and spectacular lights that Shakespeare Dallas now boasts. Hell, we could barely hear the actors over the traffic whizzing by on 30 and a portable light stand actually tipped over on one occasion. My, how things have changed. I'm older and wiser, which only means that Boone's Farm has evolved into Pascual Toso, I can now afford a family membership - giving us access to the gilded member's seating down the center of the hill - and fast food has turned into gourmet meals that are lovingly prepared by my husband and coveted by those around us. Shakespeare in the Park has grown up in so many other ways. There are chair rentals (of the short, beach variety), food & alcohol vendors, and the bathrooms are housed in an actual building. No more port-a-potties for them. No siree. The cast and crew are seasoned professionals, many famous on much bigger stages than the humble Shakespeare Dallas. You often forget you're not sitting in a Broadway theater, until you remember to glance away from the stage and at the setting sun. My favorite memory will forever be the night we saw The Tempest as a storm grew around us. The blowing winds and lightning flashes in the distance gave the performance a sense of reality that no stage hand could ever manage. Bring food, drinks, blankets, short chairs (bean bags are our favorite) & bug spray. And don't forget your wine bottle opener. read more

The experience is rather good, but Shakespeare - outside - in Dallas - in July? You really have you love your bard! I usually catch one show a year, and I often hit it well. Their talent pool is excellent, and the company is well-heeled enough to hire some real strong ringers for leading roles. Chamblee Ferguson in The Complete...Abridged was one of the funniest shows they've ever done. Their Scottish play and As You Like It were real winners as well. Bring your own picnic and bottle for some extra fun. Bring singles for the pre-show donation drive. read more

Is that first review a press release or what? Not that Shakespeare Dallas doesn't deserve raves. Despite evil biting Texas ants and awkward rented "sand chairs," we loved SD's "All's Well That Ends Well." The outdoors venue at Samuell-Grand is perfect for a pre-show picnic under the stars. There is handicapped seating, but it is at the back of the seating area. Kids who might not sit through an entire play in Elizabethan English can take a break by running around in the plaza (Where Paciugo gelato is, coincidentally, for sale) Best of all, weeknights are "suggested donation" nights! But see if you can resist the cute kids who run around with donation buckets. The show is totally worth the $7-$10 normal ticket price. read more

I went to this only once, so I wanted to put that out there as it may have just been a bad night. I went because I love these sorts of things and friends had tipped me off to it occurring. We all met up and made an evening of it. The location was great. Comfortable on the grass and great view of the stage. But the performance was god awful. I mean, I found myself comparing the acting to that of my niece's 3rd grade plays. It was embarrassing to watch. I was relieved when it was over. Went to see "The Complete Works of William Shakespeare," but left at intermission. Though we went expecting a parody of Shakespeare's works, what we did not expect was a crude, raunchy, and inappropriate representation of Shakespeare's work masquerading as theater. Shakespeare in the Park is completely off the mark giving this a PG-13 rating for "strong themes and sexual references." This rating is completely misleading, and a major misrepresentation of the actual content in the show. Disgraceful to have what could have been a fun and witty parody of Shakespeare's work, turned into a vulgar, and sexually explicit demonstration of "art." read more

We have been to the main park, but over the last few years have gone to the shows in Addison. Addison is closer for us, but also these shows being in October instead of Summer allow for cooler Texas weather. If you go on Friday and Saturday, get there early as it tends to get very busy. Wednesday's are a great night to go, you can pay less if you want (although $10 the normal price really is a steal for this level of performance) and its less busy. The only issue is an 8 oclock start is a little late for me during the week as they don't end until 10:30-11 pm. The acting is great and the sets and costumes are always well done. Every play we have seen (I believe 5 at this point have great). I love the options of chairs and blankets to bring as well as being able to bring your own food and drinks. I have never had food at either location and the options seem pretty limited. I think they should consider food trucks. This is a yearly event for us, we will be back and recommend you checking it out. read more

I have been attending these productions for many years. I always enjoy the experience. I recently saw Much Ado. It was very well done. Sitting on the hillside drinking wine and watching ancient plays while airplanes cross far away overhead (you can't hear them) is a unique and indescribable feeling. Now the basics: 1. There are no bad seats. Even if it is a crowded night you will have a great place to view the play. 2. The restroom facilities are clean and have plenty of space. No long lines. 3. Rarely, I have seen parents bring children who probably don't want to be there. The parents usually behave well but sometimes they lack the skills to deal with the children. Since you don't have assigned seats, you can always move away from these groups. Although I have never found that to be necessary. 4. You can't see higher quality productions for this price. It is simply impossible. 5. The acting is top notch. I would suggest not casting the same people repeatedly. It is distracting to see those same actors again the next season in another lead role with the same character disposition, etc. In conclusion, Shakespeare in the Park is a Dallas treasure and I hope to be a continued patron for years and years to come. read more

This venue exceeded my expectations by far-- the setting was gorgeous, comfortable, perfectly sized, charming; the lighting and sound system rivaled modern theaters - not a glitch. A really fun summer evening activity! - It's cheap (on a Sunday night it's $10, $7 if you're a student) - You can bring a picnic (wine, cheese, fruit, whatever) - There really is no bad seat, you can see from any vantage point and the actors are well aware that their audience is not all directly in front of them - Shakespeare!! Would be a great outing for a date, out-of-town parents, or any Shakespeare enthusiast TIP: Bring a blanket or, better yet, chairs. At first, Shakespeare in the Park, in July, in Dallas may sound like subjecting yourself to some sort of Medieval torture. Quite the contrary though. Shakespeare Dallas offers one of the best cultural experiences in the area. Depending on where you are coming from, the drive to Samuell-Grand ampitheatre is not so bad. Although don't be fooled by the Yelp address and show up at their office after-hours. The shows take place six nights a week in three-day stints. Comedy of Errors runs Wednesday, Thursday, Friday and Cymbeline runs Saturday, Sunday and Tuesdays nights. Both shows are worth seeing, but for different reasons. Cymbeline is what can be described as a collection of Shakespeare's greatest hits and this production is done in Jacobean-period dress, with an epic fight scene that will have you reminding yourself that it is happening right in front of you, and you aren't at the movies. Comedy of Errors is a slap-stick show full of uproarious jokes, improv and song and dance that will keep you laughing the whole time. Even though Shakespearean language can sometimes be intimidating and the plot line confusing, both of these productions are well-edited and the actors and actressess are well-spoken, making Shakespeare fun and approachable for everyone. As for the heat? The park must be magical, because once the sun sets, the breeze kicks in and you forget the 110 degree heat you suffered through all day. The natural hill that the amphitheatre sits in makes it a pleasant evening under the stars. Not to mention that there isn't anything better than packing a picnic, with your favorite food and wine or beer and enjoying a stress-free evening. Shakespeare in the park was a Wonderful date night. The show was amazing and acting was wonderful. We bought our tickets online for $10 per person and they recommend for you to donate $10 again during the beginning of the show which I think was WORTH IT. I feel like after watching the show, we should have paid more. We brought our picnic set up wtih wine and a blanket. We went to Wholefoods because we were in a hurry to get our picnic stash but this can also be affordable if you brought your own prepped meals from home. The parking was easy and you can park on the street for free. Bring comfortable clothes as it is in July and it's hot during the first part of the Act. The last day of the showing will be the busiest and yes, there will be bugs and ants so bring repellents. Also, please be courteous and not bring the tall chairs upfront. If you are bringing blankets and would like a good seat, go to the show an hour before to scout a better placement. This is a good way to get some culture out of your date night. I recommend this for the budget conscious couple as it was romantic and did not feel pretentious at all. Shakespeare was very casual. read more

We love Shakespeare Dallas! They do Shakespeare in the Park in the summers at Samuell Grand Park and a fall play in September and October in both Dallas and Addison. They also put on staged readings downtown in the arts district (I think they're doing all of Shakespeare's plays in a five year period?) and they have classes for kids too. Shakespeare in the Park is an awesome date night; just bring a blanket, a picnic, your favorite wine or beer and some bug spray and you're all set. The plays they put on are fantastic and affordable.
