This place is not fine dining, but the food is the best homemade Mexican food. The price can't be beat either. I had a large potato, egg and bean taco and once I rolled it up it seemed like a burrito. Definitely not a typical size taco. The flour tortillas are homemade and so delicious!! The pancakes are wow! My daughter and I visited yesterday (July 24) and we were so impressed. They were busy and the service was good but the food even better. The tortillas here are large and awesome. In fact, I think I like them better than Manuel's. However, I like the breakfast items in general at Manuel's better. I tried the Migas Deluxe and Machado a la Mexicana. Both dishes were just ok. They were very spicy. I also ordered a breakfast taco with chorizo and eggs. The breakfast taco was the best. Value here is outstanding. Nothing really over $6. I would return. If coming from the island, the place can be hard to find due to the large tree that has grown over their sign. We arrived at Isabel's at 2:20 on a Tuesday and the door was locked with a female standing on the inside. She unlocked the door and said they were closed. I asked for the closing time and she said "about 2:30"even though the sign posted on the door stated 3pm. We went down the street and ate at El Buen Pescador, they have better enchiladas than Isabel's. I am not a tourist and expect business' to stand by their stated policies and service, neither of which Isabel's did. Nice people, but the food was flavorless. They were packed somehow so it took a while to get service but after we ordered the food came out quick. My husband order 3 beef tacos. Very small and no seasonings on the ground beef. I ordered the mexican plate with 2 chicken enchiladas and 2 beef tacos. The chalupa is actually a tostada. No flavor at all. We used 3/4 bottles of their salsa which was really good for all of the flavor. I gave my husband my tacos to try and fill him up. Also does no one use chihuahua cheese in this state? The prices however were great. The total was 13.56. If only the food was worth it. After reading all the posts I am very disappointed. read more

My only guaranteed stop when I visit S Padre Island. Their breakfast tacos and pancakes are amazing.

We did a call ahead on our way out of South Padre. I ordered the "large" egg and cheese (tastes like velveeta) breakfast taco and the hubs had the french toast with a scrambled egg and fried potatoes. It hit the spot. I normally avoid gluten except for the vacation splurge and I can tell you I enjoyed each and every bite of that fresh tortilla. My husband also enjoyed his french toast which had a sprinkling of powdered sugar over it. The portions were quite generous and dirt cheap compared to any over priced island fare. The call in process is a bit of a hassle for some but we recommend calling in your order BEFORE leaving your hotel. The eggs were cooked well done but not dry and tasted like they had been fried in bacon grease-yum. read more
