Isabel's Cafe has been there furrrrever. Though we were always a Fisherman's or White Sands family, Isabel's is a solid staple. They do a solid salsa, a giant taco (no srsly, giant) and have great service both times I've been. Though our last experience wasn't my favorite, they do breakfast all day every day and it's cheap, fast and good. Giant tacos are a staple of the PI crowd and this place delivers a Con Todo that's really con todo. read more

Great food and wonderful customer service. Family owned and down home food, what's better than that!

If this place and Manuel's were a horse race, Manuel's would win by a nose but it would definitely be a photo finish. This place has great breakfast and very good Tex Mex fare. You could tell it was an institution because 70% of the sign on the front of the building was covered by a big tree. They don't seem to care. If you want to come, come on. If not, keep going. I didn't have the breakfast but it looked very good. This place was better than any place in South Padre. If we could get them to open at night, we would be set. read more

Just enjoyed a meal here on Monday 6/28/10. We were so surprised how great everything was. The kids devoured choc.milk. I got special of the day. Caldo De Res. Beef soup. sooo good, sooo fresh. My son got the chalupa plate. Best we've ever had. Tortilla shell super crispy. My husband got a large burrito. It covered his entire plate. Now my daughter just got pancakes. I'm not a fan but she liked them. Service was a tad slow but that's the Valley for ya. It was well worth the wait. Support your mom and pops people! read more

My only guaranteed stop when I visit S Padre Island. Their breakfast tacos and pancakes are amazing.

We did a call ahead on our way out of South Padre. I ordered the "large" egg and cheese (tastes like velveeta) breakfast taco and the hubs had the french toast with a scrambled egg and fried potatoes. It hit the spot. I normally avoid gluten except for the vacation splurge and I can tell you I enjoyed each and every bite of that fresh tortilla. My husband also enjoyed his french toast which had a sprinkling of powdered sugar over it. The portions were quite generous and dirt cheap compared to any over priced island fare. The call in process is a bit of a hassle for some but we recommend calling in your order BEFORE leaving your hotel. The eggs were cooked well done but not dry and tasted like they had been fried in bacon grease-yum. read more

Awesome service! Walked in unknowingly at closing time and was still greeted with a smile. Huge homemade tortillas and delicious carne guisada. Very friendly staff. Will return for breakfast ASAP read more

The service wasn't ideal. I felt like I was inconveniencing the waitress by just being there. I ordered the #2- enchilada, taco, and chalupa, with beans & rice for $6.50. The enchilada was really good, the taco, chalupa and rice were okay, and the beans were pretty bland. read more

Go go Goooo! Cute lil mom and shop, frequented by locals mostly. If you like the homey feel and some awesome simple food, head out there. We ordered sausages and Omelettes-which were just omelettes but so yummmm! We had to wait as it seems like one of those busy places, but it was worth it. The prices were very very reasonable too. read more

Isabel's Cafe - Two small Barbacoa tacos! - Mexican Near Me - Port Isabel, Texas

Still my go to place for good Migas, Con Todo or Mexican plate for lunch. Not fancy and some from "the big city" would call it a dive. It's clean, friendly, loud, busy, not fancy but I wouldn't change a thing. Isabel's place is definitely worth the wait. Get's my top Yummo rating! read more

Great place. Awesome food. Had breakfast here 3 days in a row. The only place I will eat breakfast when I am in south Padre from now.

Warning: the small and large tortillas are huge regardless but they are amazing! Super friendly service, great fajita tacos, and much more! Plus, it's super cheap. Who does love cheap Mexican food?! It's been one of my favorite places to eat near South Padre while on vacation with my family! read more

Good place to eat cheap breakfast burritos. The tortillas are handmade, buttery, and full of flavor. Be careful ordering the large, a small will def satisfy your appetite. I cannot give this place the full five stars, as we had a couple unwanted visitors join us at the table and in the bathroom...take that however you wish. read more

Great little place for breakfast. I came here with my grandparents- for under $20 we had 3 cups of coffee, and omelet, a special of eggs, potatoes, toast and sausage as well as a plate of enchiladas, taco, rice and beans. The enchiladas were excellent- I'll be back just for those! read more

She looked at me and said 'These are legit tortillas...like...the best I've ever had', 30 seconds later we saw the award on the wall where Laura Bush said the same thing in a Texas Monthly. Damn good Barbacoa, Tacos, and surprisingly decent coffee. Come here. Leave happiest. read more

Great family run restaurant! We tried 7 different breakfast burritos and they were all amazing. Awesome homemade flour tortillas. Just a heads up that they on accept cash read more

Good breakfast tacos. The large size is giant! Good but a lot of tortilla. I would go with a small next time.

Manuels is good, but i prefer Isabels! Feels like grandmas kitchen. Lots of locals, family vibe. We had bfast tacos with guisada and picadillo with tomatoes and lettuce. Excellent. Got two coffees and walked out only 15 bucks lighter in the wallet. Great deal, great taste! Go here. Best breakfast i have had in area. read more

Food is good. Tacos are huge. Always busy so make sure you keep that In mind. Parking is horrible. And they never answer the phone for to go orders! But will go there again. read more

Your typical mom & pop restaurant but the food is delicious and great for an affordable price. It is always packed during the weekends so be prepared. That's what to expect with a hidden gem. read more

Great traditional and relaxing place for breakfast lunch and dinner it is a must best service food and price.

This is a true 5 star gem. If you want homemade breakfast tacos as big as your noggin get a contodo taco which if you lack Spanish ability means with everything. Seven dollars and your stomach will do a dance. The place is very clean but simple inside. Arrive early on weekends as people lined up picking up tacos to go as well as sit down. They also have fresh cookies at the counter. I eat here maybe every 20 days as a treat. read more

During recent trip to SPI area had both breakfast and lunch here. Andy and family do a great job expressing the local flavor and enjoyed my meals very much. Had Migas for breakfast, and tacos for lunch. read more

I should have paid attention to the reviews and come here for breakfast. Not sure if they were really open when we got there (they locked the door when we left around 2:30pm) and we were the only customers there. We went for lunch and they have a limited, but OK menu. Bret ordered loaded nachos and I ordered the beef fajitas. I'm not thinking this is a Tex-Mex place - seems to be more like authentic Mexican street food. The fajitas were small chopped beef pieces - nicely seasoned, but didn't come with sour cream, cheese, guacamole or anything - just came with rice, beans and a huge homemade flour tortilla (1). The tortilla was amazing. I can see how these would make great breakfast tacos. No chips and salsa were served. When the food came out, the waitress brought squeeze bottle of salsa (which was very good and very picante, by the way!). I enjoyed mine and thought the beans were great, too. Bret's nachos were OK, but he never did find any cheese on them. Maybe we hit them at closing time. Probably wouldn't go back for lunch, but from the reviews of breakfast, we might go back then. read more

My family and I loved this place! We were told it would be a 25 minute wait, but we got sat way sooner. The food was priced really well, came out fast, and was delicious. All around great place! Definitely deserves 5 stars. read more

Pretty good food with more than generous portions! I ate way too much, now I'm stuffed. Definitely a mom n pop place, the bathrooms are a little scary but the food more than makes up for that. I would go back. read more

Simple, really good food with unfailingly great service. Pancakes served with softened butter! What a concept. Melted, in a squeeze bottle. Pure genius. So good and prices are right. read more

Cheap, good Mexican style breakfasts. I had the migas a la Mexican, my lady had the huevos rancheros. Location is secure, and easy to get to. Service is with a smile and friendly. There is a nice mural of the Port Isabel along the back wall, but the decor is very basic. It is also extremely clean. There are also a few awards posted along the walls. It seems to be primarily a place for the working class locals, a hidden gem. read more

Delicious! Great Mexican food - breakfast was wonderful!

Isabel's is good, very big locals place. Family owned. My friends and family love coming here. It's in a convenient location as well. The downside is service can be slow, the wait is long (for good reason) and the parking is horrible. I'm not sure why they don't expand parking. All in all food is great read more

I LOVE this place! Family run hole in the wall with great Mexican food. I had the small (on a diet) chorizo egg and cheese burrito and it was perfect. The beat part of breakfast we all agreed was the home made tortillas. Can't wait to come back! read more

Hard to find initially, but found right on corner between Walmart and elementary school. Came for breakfast but parking was short and there was too long a line for breakfast (even on Thursday). Building looked rough but the food must have been really good. We just get any of it read more
