Pretty affordable asian grocery products! We are from the bay area and one of the biggest things from our move had been not having a K-mart or big asian grocery store near by. We decided to give this place a chance and check it out and happy we did! We found a lot of Vietnamese and Chinese items like fresh noodles, bean sprouts, hot pot items, broth starters, etc. We're looking forward to shopping here more and not having to drive 2+ hours for groceries is a plus! read more

Hands down my favorite Asian market north of Los Angeles. It feels like home away from home. Every time I come into town I stock up on all my favorites which they consistently keep in store. I'm going to keep this review simple as it's hard to rant and rave about a small Asian market. Oriental market is my go to for all my favorite sauces. That's realistically the only items I buy here. They have traditional Asian dumpling sauces here, the real selling point is they charge $3 here where it's $7 for a bottle on Amazon (and mind you I can't find this sauce in my local grocery stores). They also have amazing varieties of Chili Oil. My favorite is their little la-yu chili oil bottle they sell here, it's easy for travel when I need chili oil on the go. Secondly the owners are so beyond friendly. They always smile and are extremely friendly when you are checking out. I always feel welcomed and can see that they value my business. I don't feel any weird vibes like I'm being watched as I walk around the store which happens in some other markets I frequent. Just all around good honest people. If your in town oriental market deserves your business, you get friendly faces every time with a great assortment of goods. Well worth the travel. read more

From Gai-lan to pre-cooked noodles, this store in Old Town Goleta has a lot to offer. It's small but packed with tons of choices. Light soy, dark soy, dark soy with mushroom, gluten-free tamari. So many noodle choices to chose from and aisles of sauces. Between the two Hollister Asian stores you can find anything you need. Fruits were non-existent on this visit. Love to see some lychee or rambutan -- maybe they aren't in season. Owners are super cool and this location has been around for decades read more

Of course it happened again that I walk into a grocery store for one thing but end up with bag full of things! So yes I was going to buy sake ( cooking sake) and walked in super friendly girl at register said hi, pointed me to the right direction to find it, but then I started walking around aisles and then just bought whole bunch of other stuff, which I will use but didn't need right away. I do love this store as their inventory is amazing with all Asian things. Veggies fresh and all the sauce/canned goods is the best in town. Sorry no pictures, I forgotten my phone at home. A great family owned market with all the Asian goods you would need. A small gem in this town. I always come here for staple Chinese vegetables like shanghai bok choy and yu choy sum. Prices may be a bit pricier than the average Asian market in bigger cities, but you can't complain when these items aren't offered anywhere else in the area. Thankful that they have these options and the owners are always nice and welcoming to me :) read more

It's tough to find things you need to make authentic Filipino dishes! I was able to find some produce that i couldnt find at other grocery stores and they have all the dry goods/ canned goods you could ever think of! Luckily this market is close to home and has a lot to offer & MORE. Definitely feels like an oriental market i would go to back in Chicago. I always find what I need at this market. There's actually less overlap than you'd think with Indo-China Market, so I come here in addition to there to get everything I need. Also, they're conveniently next to Noodle City, so I can drop in right after I have lunch. Everyone who works here has treated me well. read more

This is my favorite Asian grocery store in town. They have a wide variety of packaged products and fresh produce (bok choy, Chinese chives, sprouts, etc) and meats. It's also better priced than Indo-China near Kmart. Both the woman and man who work here are always very friendly and talk to me at checkout; today the woman asked if I was making pad thai and then she suggested her favorite spot in town for pad thai. read more

While this place does not come close to what you'd find in say, San Fran or LA, for little ol' Goleta, Oriental Market is a godsend when you're about to make Thai curry and realize you have only a moldy one inch stump of ginger and your larder yields not even a single can of coconut milk. This is a mom and pop sort of place which attracts local winos in search of a mini bottle of cheap vodka as well as the harried Asian American housewife in need of a bottle of fish sauce. Small but decent selection of Asian sweets like mochi rice cakes and ready to eat cups of tapioca in coconut milk. The prices kick the asses of the other local Asian markets, namely Indo-China, Nikka, and Choi's. read more

*Disclosure: this is a 4 star rating for SB standards.... Aside from the name "Oriental" Market, I think this is the best Asian market in SB. Out of a total of four that I know of: this one, Choi's (1 star - see my review) and the Japanese one next to Trader Joe's in Goleta,the Indo-Chinese market by UCSB, this one has a relatively large selection and the owners (or maybe employee?) are friendly. the prices, in my opinion are also a little more fair compared to the other stores. I was looking for Tiger Balm and they had it for $5.00 vs. $7.50 at CVS. Now, I guess I could have gotten it for $3 in LA, but that's a long way to drive to save $2.... ;) anyway, the guy behind the counter was friendly and helped me to locate the items I was looking for and went along my day. OK for snacks, maybe. I bought mochi here once. It was frozen solid, and I should've known better. Even if you defrost it, it's not going to be nice!! These days, Costco and Trader Joe's sell assorted mochi in a refrigerator aisle. read more

For some reason all the stores near by were sold out of seaweed, so we had to stop at this market to check. Majority of the seaweed were all expired, and I clearly said out loud, "This is all REALLY expired," the shop owner and employee didn't respond or react. This means they both knew they sell expired food hoping someone doesn't notice and purchase it anyways. That is a horrible way to do business. Also I'm certain other items were expired as well, however I didn't check since they were closing. If you do end up shopping here just make sure to check all the expiration dates! read more

I'm gonna say this place is in between stars. It's not big but it's the first Asian store I had stumble to when I moved here and there selection of things aren't that bad. The price is OK as well. Coming from an area surrounded by many Asian store to an area that is lucky to find one, this place is cute and not bad just to satisfy your Asian needs. It's just a place to quickly remind you of back home again and the two Vietnamese ladies were nice as well. Who knows maybe they also own the pho next door and the 99 cent store across the street as well which is another of my favorite store for cheap but good deals ;-) Check this place out for a little Asian vibe. read more

We have always bought our groceries here and it was always fine. However last night when me and my roommate did our weekly shopping there, and the cashier, Nora, overcharged us several items. When we called this morning to let them know of this mistake, Nora had a horrible attitude and claimed that we had to bring everything back along with the receipt, despite of the fact that we have already opened and ate some of the products. When we tried to explain this to her, she laughed and said that their store have been open for 30 years and they have never had anyone had a compliant, and all their customers were happy with their purchase, hinting that we were being unreasonable and trying to scam them somehow. We asked if they will be able to check the security camera of last night, and she said no because all the footages are wiped every night at 9pm, then what's the point of having a security camera in the first place? We are now scrambling through the garbage trying to find the food packages that we threw away last night, and it's ridiculous that we have to go through all this in the middle of Dead week when we have more important things to do, just because of the cashier's reluctance to admit her mistake. read more

Great place! The lady at the register was very friendly! This market has ALMOST everything you need to make a fresh dinner meal (wish there were more fresh produce sold). But the place does the trick for a college student! It has great snacks, frozen dumplings, and certain frozen seafood. I was very happy I came across this wonderful market! It's the best Asian market in SB/Goleta area I might add. It's rough when you're from a big city, and you have Asian markets at your convenience. But this place has brought me comfort, and on the plus side it's right next to an awesome Pho restaurant! read more

I actually think this is one of the better asian grocery stores in town because of their assortment of cooking items. Not only do they have many different kinds of dried noodles, they also have fresh noodles (like fresh pho noodles-- I haven't been able to find that anywhere else in town). They also have fresh asian vegetables and some pre-made snack items. There's honestly tons of stuff here that I haven't been able to find at any other asian grocery store in santa barbara. Though, I should say that the owners don't seem uber nice, and the place has that asian grocery store smell (a combo of fish and salt). But that's easy to get past because there are just some items that you cannot find anywhere else in town. read more

This place used to be better with the original Vietnamese owners. They used to have lots of tasty baked goods brought in from LA (Goldilocks, etc.), but now it's reverted to a simple convenience store. read more

Love this place! I always go here for asian recipe ingredients! There is always a lot of choices, and they are so so so much cheaper than vons/albertsons/whole foods. So much so that I will go here just to get something like rice noodles, fish sauce, or rice wine vinegar. Woohoo! read more

A small "market" that carries an assortment of instant noodles in a variety of flavors, random Asian snacks, and sauces/pastes that you will not be able to find at a regular grocery store. It's your best bet in the Goleta/SB area because there's only one other market like it (Indo-China Market by Kmart), which is smaller. It's no 99 Ranch (...or is it Ranch 99?), but it'll do I suppose. read more

Owners are usually very friendly, but I asked a question once and was told that my question offended the lady owner. I used to buy food there all the time, but sometimes the food would start to mold the next day. One time, I asked if the packaged bakery items were from the previous week. The lady owner didn't answer my question and said I offended her and that I should NOT buy anything from there if I didn't plan on eating it the same day. Well, I guess I will never go back since I don't plan to eat everything I buy the same day. Go to Indo China Market instead. They have the same foods and the owners will get you what you need if you request it. read more

Will not come here again. The man (owner?) treated me as if I was going to steal. The man: What are you looking for? Me: I don't know. I am just looking around. The man: We cannot let you look around. Me: (what???) It's my first time here. If I do not look around, how do I know what I can buy? The man: We just don't do this. We are not K-mart. You cannot look around around around and touch things. Me: (what???) But this is a shop? (Can I know the expiration dates and where it is produced?) The man: You just cannot look around. We do not have enough people. Me: (in shock) I cannot believe in this century, some people still do business like this. After all, his stuffs are not so competitive in terms of quality and prices. Not the cleanest place, located in a more shady part of Goleta so don't go here if you're squeamish about beggars and dirty streets--but I liked it. Up until my 2nd visit when the sales lady talked to me like I was a kid. Maybe I'm old fashioned but I still believe the customer is always right.. to an extent of course, but if I ask for something and you say it will be there the next day, and I drive there the next day and it isn't there because you misunderstood that I WANTED it--don't tell me it's my fault. It was something as silly as an Asian broom, and I would have let it go and returned again the next day *you have to understand, I really wanted this broom* had she not spent an entire 2 minutes telling me it was my fault that she didn't bring her stock of brooms to the store. I took my business to the little Asian market near K-Mart--the ladies who work there talk to me like I'm an adult and are stocked up on Asian brooms and what not--the place is a lot more clean, too.. read more

I went in there with the wrappers to a few Thai ingredients I needed and the owner (?) was happy to help and find the ingredients in no time. Prices were really cheap, too. We've been going here for many years for our Asian groceries, particularly Vietnamese. We can usually find most of the essentials that we need to make traditional meals. If they don't carry something they are willing to try to get it for you on their next weekly shipments. So pre-planning is a good idea! With more international students from Asia arriving to UCSB, it looks like they are expanding their operations to include more Korean, Chinese, Japanese and other pan-Asian ingredients. This is the best Asian grocery market that we've found anywhere in the SB, Ventura, Oxnard, Camarillo area. Thank goodness for this place, we don't have to miss our ethnic food so much!! It's not a huge place, but it's packed with goodies. Take your time to explore. The owners are wonderful, honest and cheerful people. The lady is always willing to give Vietnamese recipe advice in case you're not sure how to make something, or advice on which brands to buy or which cut of meat you need fora particular dish. We'll miss this place once we're done at UCSB! read more

Good for Santa Barbara. Able to get some asian foods that I'm used to, that I can't get anywhere else in Santa Barbara. Always get my hot pot ingredients including sliced lamb, satay bbq sauce, thin noodles, yam noodles, etc. A little expensive, but good for when we need Asian foods. Very nice owners. read more
