We were so blessed to be able to join Island Art Party on their last night. There's a packed house of 50 "painters" tonight. We're tasked to do a Iao Needle on a wooden Maui shaped board. Our partista, kameron, was super energetic and funny. He gave simple instructions and made the entire night fun. Unfortunately, there are no plans to reopen. Highly highly recommend island art party!!!! Even if you are NOT a good artist, you will still have a great time here. The service is incredible (the girls come around with popcorn, clean paper towels for your brushes, check to see how your painting is going, EVERYTHING, they are amazing!) and the energy is all good vibes and tons of fun. They play music and are always there if you need help. Great activity to take your family (you have to be over 8 years old to enjoy this experience) to and it is really crazy how everyone's painting all look different! read more

Attended an event at the Moku Roots Farm in Kula with Island Art Party. I arrived 20 mins early (I live on the west side, with traffic works now you have to give it at least an hour and a half to get to Kula but I found out Sunday is quicker!) and was told to back up and park on the grass by the couple who run IAP. A tad unfriendly so I stayed in my car until everyone had arrived. Plus it was freezing up country and I was dressed for the beach. Once everyone arrived we had a wonderfully tasty lunch provided by Moku Roots, vegan and moreish, healthy but felt naughty with dessert, and interesting drinks. Mahalo Moku Roots! After everyone had eaten their fill we donned our painting aprons and off we went. A whale tail shaped wooden board was provided on an easel with a paper plate with acrylic paints and 3 brushes. Step by step easy directions were given on how to paint your board and everyone enjoyed applying their artistic skills, whether newbies or artists. The partista was helping anyone who needed it and her partner was making sure everyone had everything they needed, eg more paint, paper napkins to wipe your brushes, water, etc. Once the event started the couple were much friendlier and I relaxed and enjoyed the artistic afternoon, laughing with other artists and comparing paintings and ideas. The view and venue were fantastic and I enjoyed painting in this relaxed vibe. I did my own version of the painting as I use acrylics to paint surf boards, wooden signs, and canvas so I like using my own techniques. Everyone enjoyed themselves, we had 2 birthdays to celebrate, and we had group photos taken which are going to be emailed to us. All in all I had a great artistic afternoon and a great painting to remember it by. I would definitely attend another Island Art Party event, and am thinking of visiting the Moku Roots farm for brunch on a Sunday morning. I miss their Lahaina store, I used to go there every week. read more

VERY DISAPPOINTED with the experience here!!! The business offered a Black Friday special and I decided to take advantage of the special . I purchased the sessions (2) several days in advance. Just a few hours before the class was supposed to start , they called & cancelled it on me due to not enough people signing up. I called to reschedule the class for the following Friday and Mary said the only way I could do that was if I paid the difference, which was full price. This is very bad business practice on their part. Why should I have to pay the difference when they cancelled on me? I totally get why this place is shutting down. They could care less about their potential customers. Skip it and save your money and support a local business that appreciates their customers! read more

A friend of mine wanted to try out Island Art Party since both of us had never been. We finally set a night during which they had a kama'aina special running. I'm not sure if they run this everyday, but $25 for all painting supplies and 2 hours of painting instruction, not too bad if you ask me! We made reservations, but my husband became sick and couldn't join us. You need to cancel more than 24 hours to avoid being charged, but the girl at the check-in counter kindly didn't charge me for it which was a pleasant surprise. You'll know where you're sitting by the plate (your makeshift paint pallet) where your group's name is written on it. Bring your palette, grab an apron, and get your paint. Each paint canister is labeled by a number, indicating how many pumps of paint you will need for the class. The partista stands on the little stage and instructs you each step of the way. What you're painting, what brush to use, what color to use, different techniques for different effects, etc. Who knew painting could be so easy? Even the least artistic person could come out feeling like a Picasso. Haha. I kind of wish we painted something harder actually! All in all though, I had a lot of fun! I wanted/needed more time in between each section, but that's just me being anal about what color and each stroke. I was also enjoying sips of my alcoholic beverage in between each stroke so that may have slowed me down a bit as well ;) Yes, they do serve alcohol, like other similar establishments. I recommend getting The Sway! It's tasty and strong and gave me a nice buzz by the end of the evening. If that's not your thing, they also have beer, wine, mocktails, etc. If you're looking for something to do in the evening with friends, or a date night, or even a celebration, this is a fun activity for everyone. My wife wanted to do something fun for her birthday and her coworkers told her about this little gem. I believe it's a gem because I didn't even know it existed and the two ladies that worked that night were absolutely fantastic. The only thing that I would have changed with this experience was that they do not allow you to bring your own beverage. We had gotten our favorite drink from Starbucks but we're not allowed to bring it in since they sold alcohol and coffee. Had I known we wouldn't have purchased something before hand. Also, we don't drink alcohol. It was a little off putting that it wasn't expressed on the website that you couldn't bring something yourself.(I am a diabetic and have special dietary issues). Other then that the atmosphere was awesome once we started painting. The instructor was very upbeat and skilled. She was so positive and reinforced how great everyone was doing. The other lady walked around and switched out the napkins we were using to dry the brushes and refilling paint and what ever else we needed. She always seemed to show up when I needed something, it was like magic. They played really fun music that everyone could get into and everyone was singing as they were painting. Good vibes all around. They did also provide free popcorn for everyone that was popped with coconut oil. It was nice to see everyone enjoying it. At the end of the class they took a group photo and individual ones with your own phones which was very nice. They also handed out slips to put into a raffle at the end to win a free paint session. I was lucky and won the raffle! ( I usually never win anything) There was an option to get the group photos sent to your email however, I didn't receive it. All in all I had so much fun. I came here with some friends from work as we were interested in participating in this activity as none of us have been here and we had the time of our lives. The staff were super friendly and upbeat and the music was fun. The last song was Bohemian Rhapsody and everyone just started singing along. Our theme for the night was jellyfish and we were nervous but with the step by step instructions, we were able to create our own masterpiece. They have free popcorn to munch on and they do serve alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks as well. All of us had so much fun, we talked about doing this again soon. We've done this 3 different times with friends and family. It's an amazing activity to do that's entertaining and all around wholesome. Nisha is a great teacher. Very detailed oriented and friendly. She tells you exactly how to do it each step of the way. If you want to get your kids (and yourself) away from phone and computer screens, this is really an amazing way to do it. I've got great fortune to review this wonderfully creative, community captivating, art studio. So let me break it down in both ways: Private Party: My daughter has the honor of being invited to a private paint party for her friend's 11th birthday. There were approximately 20 girls and 8 moms/aunties. At this age, it's already started with the "can you just drop me off mom?" (Ouch!) . There were tables available for the party hosts to set up food, cake, presents, etc. and a nice lounge area moms sat in and got to talk story while their Keiki got a step by step lesson In painting a beautiful sunset on the shore with swaying palm trees and surf shack to complete the scene. The girls had a blast and got to take a piece of artwork to remember the moment forever! The instructor broke every step of the painting down in a way that was patient and perfect for the kiddos. Truly a great experience for all I think! Large Reservation: My dear girlfriend made a large reservation for ourselves and 12 of our friends for my birthday! I can't speak too much about the process because that was quite the surprise of how fantastically large the group got. When we arrived, they took our names and checked us in, making sure we had our beverage of choice before getting comfortable. The studio was PACKED by kindly enough, most of our group were seated at easels in one section, which made for easier mingling between instruction. I do love that there was a breaktime to stretch, get a refill or talk story some more while the paint dried before the next step. Again, the instructor was patient and provided great detailed steps and reassurance. I liked that there were other IAP instructors going around the room and helping with our techniques, brushes or any suggestions. I love my creation and I can't wait to go back! We had so much fun at our Island Art party GNO! IAP is a really fun place to get together, have a good time and let your creative side come to life. I gathered up a few friends and we decided to go in for the launch of surfboard painting session. We were pretty pumped... I was a little nervous because I'm kind of a terrible painter... but I was assured that it didn't matter. There is plenty of parking in the Azeka shopping center where IAP is located. The store is lit up bright with a sign out front welcoming the guests in. We checked in (I called and reserved our spots a few weeks prior) and we were shown where our spots were. They had our names written on the back of the plate that sat on our easel. The music was playing and there was such a FUN vibe! The walls are covered in art work from other guests. It's really fun to look at and get inspired. Once everyone was there and the clock struck 7, it was time to get the party started. The owners introduced themselves and told us a little about about how it was going to work. We all got up and got the amount of paint that was required, a paint apron and took a look at the finished surfboard that was on the stage. The instructors walked us through each step and assured us that each piece was going to look a little different due to all of our uniqueness. And also, to stop, take a step back and look at the painting from a distance--super helpful info. There are drinks available for purchase and complimentary popcorn popping all evening. Srsly, why would couple of grown ass men want to DRAW? This idea sounded so stupid when my friend suggested so I had to give it a try. To my surprise, it was a lot of fun! I was actually thing I'll be drawing in Jackson Pollocks style with the boozes they serve. But we actually go so into it, not body was really drinking....LOL. Very fun, very friendly environment. I took my sweety here for his birthday this past weekend and we had so much fun. He was so nervous because hes never been to one. I've been to several while living on the mainland so I had an idea on what to expect. He absolutely loved it especially once he found his groove lol. It's a good thing I made our reservations online early because our class was packed. When you arrive, you check in then you find your seat which will have your apron and your easel with a paper plate with your name on the back. Then, you take your paper plate up front with you to the paint bottles that have pumps on them that are labeled with how many pumps of each color to put on your plate. They have a bar area that has beer, wine, mocktails and a few mixed drinks. They also have popcorn. The only cons about this place is that it is really tight in there. They need to either have a bigger space or not pack that many people in one class. It would be nice if they opened up another location like in Wailuku or Kahului as well. Their classes would fill up fast like they do for this Kihei location. Overall, awesome experience, awesome staff and such a great time. We cannot wait to go back and maybe bring the little guy for the family class. read more

I went with a friend because who can turn down a night out without the kids and cocktails, but I was pleasantly surprised. We had a fun painting, but like every other painting /wine place the blaring music was annoying. When you are with your family and or friends part of the fun is talking to them. With my sister's hearing impairment it was almost impossible to communicate with her during the session. We had gotten to the event a bit early so we had time to explain to the host and request that the don't blast the music. She informed us that the music would be off during the instructions, but made absolutely no effort to tone down the volume in between. So during the painting time even for me the music was obnoxious to say the least. I hope in the future they learn to be more accommodating to all their customers and realize blasting the music at such a high decibel during the event does not make the atmosphere as enjoyable as it could be. read more

We did the Yelp event here on Fri for date night with a few friends. Had a blast! Even my guy enjoyed (despite his protests at being dragged along). Our time at Island Art Party was straight up AMAZIIING! Our group was on a double date. My friend and I were super excited from the beginning, and the boys were skeptical initially, but even they got really into their painting and had tons of fun! The owners were very warm and welcoming and our instructor, Brooke, kept the mood upbeat and taught us different methods of painting to find out what works for our individual styles. This definitely helped everyone from the beginners to the more experienced painters and everyone was super encouraging to add our own flair to our paintings. There's a good variety of drinks offered at the bar as well. We were having so much fun, we didn't even notice we've had two bottles of wine plus some cocktails in between! The painting class was super chill, and the 3 hours goes by so fast, and before you know it, you have a personal masterpiece and a great memory. I think Island Art Party is a great addition not just to Maui's economy, but also its local art scene. While staying at the Fairmont Kea Lani, my family and I were introduced to Island Art Party when they set up a painting party on site. We are a group of two 19 year olds, one 50 year old and one 77 year old and it's tough to say who enjoyed it the most as we ALL had a great time! Loved the ladies who taught and assisted us, they made it fun and easy to do. All supplies were provided and we enjoyed the music that accompanied our painting. My first visit to the Island Paint Party was a couple weeks ago. I went with about 8 other co-workers as a bonding thing. We did the 'Blue Jellyfish' and it was completely awesome. Everyone had fun singing and drinking and painting! My second visit was a few days ago. I went with my boyfriend and his younger brother. That night was the 'Jacaranda'. Once again not disappointed! My most recent visit my boyfriend and I went and we did the 'Mermaid'. Again they still were above standard. Need I remind you that NO experience is needed! They do step by step tutorials and if you ever get stuck or lost they always walk around to help. The 'partistas' are very friendly and knowledgeable in what they do! The two that are my favs are Jackie and MaeDee. When you check in at the counter make sure you sign the slip with your name and email and put it in the giant martini glass. That's how they send you the group photos of everyone and how you enter for a free class! Be sure to try the free popcorn and check out the full bar! Will definitely be back again! read more

After attending Island Art Party twice now, I am hooked. The vibe is super fun and fast-paced and your "Partistas" go out of their way to make sure everyone is having a great time. Myself, not being an artist whatsoever, I was a little hesitant to go but after putting a cocktail in one hand and a paint brush in the other, I found myself to be a regular newfound Picasso. The host's of the painting party start the evening off by showing the finished painting and guiding you step-by-step to create your own one of a kind masterpiece. It truly does feel like a party with super hyped up jams, yummy popcorn to snack on and drinks that continue to flow. Although my paintings looked NOTHING like that of the Partista host, I left feeling super stoked on the amazing time I had with friends and (shocker) interested in continuing to hone in on my painting skills. Curt (the Owner) and Brooke (the Art Instructor) were happy, patient and knowledgeable. They have a full bar, good tunes and free popcorn. My family and I (4) have done parties here at our hotel, but last night we did it at their studio for the first time. We had a group of 10, all adults with one 7 year old, and it was an absolute blast!! Our partista, Laura we think?, Was so much fun and really broke it down! Some of us were not as excited as others, but in the end, because of the awesome atmosphere and company, we all were laughing and commenting on each other's paintings during our small breaks. It was such a great experience for us and something new for us all to do together. So thankful for such a happy, non stress environment to create something new.
