On my last visit to Maui I was surprised to learn that Maui has its own home grown agave plants and it's volcanic soil only makes these plants produce huge piñas that get distilled into amazing agave spirits (they can't say tequila). We drove up the mountain and enjoyed our tasting. The 4 stars are all about what's in the bottle, the tasting room experience isn't as hospitable. So enjoy the spirit.

Stumbled on this gem after visiting the Miami Gold pineapple store. Decided why not do some tasting. We had six tastings from vodka to gin to dark rum. Yum! We walked in without a reservation and were seated right away. Audrey was fun, informative and helped us understand the process. It was a great time.

This place is a must visit if you enjoy premium tequila or if you enjoy well crafted spirits. Waikulu makes 100% locally sourced small batch liquor distilled from Maui agave (can't be called tequila if it's made outside of specific regions in Mexico). They make a range of silver and aged versions and do flight tastings. I opted for the 5 tastes, since there we multiple aged options I wanted to try: 6 month, 18 month, and 24 month, plus a sake style version. We ended up taking home a bottle of the Opio and the 24 month limited release. Delicious! The venue is in upcountry Maui which gives you beautiful view of the island and you can see the agave plants directly on the property. The tasting room is charming, with about 6 seats, which feels intimate and exclusive. The friendly and knowledgeable staff also makes this experience top notch. Special shout out to Alicia who served us! Thanks for making our visit memorable.

Always a fun stop on the way to up country and having lunch at Hali'imaile Country Store. What can get better than this?!! $20. for 5 tastings. $15 for 3 beaker tastings. The Smoked Peppa was our favorite! $95. a bottle. Sent 4 to the mainland. Note: They don't ship. They'll sell you a box for a $1.00 to pack. They can't call it Tequila because that's a Mexico brand albeit it's the same thing. Thanks for the memories!

We stopped in after visiting Makawao-it's just right down the road. And what a great place. We did a tasting and Neesa was so helpful and friendly and the tequila was smooth! It's a beautiful place. It's a small operation and the owner was there working away. It was cool to see. Took home a bottle of the Smokey Pepa. Worth a stop!

Let's be honest...drinking can be fun! What's really, really fun? Learning that what you are drinking is a local, handmade crafted product produced before your eyes... That's Waikulu From top to bottom, this is what you want.... Custom made spirit Grown on property Made in front of you Limited production Tastes good to sip, and with cocktails Let me back up... I didnt realize an agave spirit was made in Hawaii, but it is. This product is the labor of love from the owner Paul. He not only started planting agave ten years before bottling, but he also made a lot of the machines to process the spirit....thats real love....and engineering! I was able to tour this distillery in Makawao and it was easily one of the highlights of my visit to Maui. Oliver, our tour guide was a pro. He gives an expert walking tour of the property and he is very, very good at his job....he didn't even mind all my questions! After our tour, he helped us with a tasting of their product...so amazing. Even the workers here were fantastic. Albert, one of the head workers even showed us how to harvest the agave using a coa...a sharp round hoe. He made it look so easy...I would have been a sweaty mess! The tour was all highlights, but the best parts were hearing from the owner as to the distilling process, and his take on the distillery. The pinnacle was tasting the steamed piña after it had been cooked. After 40 hours of heat, you can actually eat/suck out the juices from the pulp. It tastes like happiness and rainbows! Seeing, tasting, and smelling this distillation process overwhelmed my senses with a state of well being. I was very happy knowing this local product is produced in an ethical and sustainable method. And of course, I enjoyed tasting it! I will continue to return to try their new product releases...so much fun...and educational!

From soil to sip Waikulu is where the magic happens--crafting exceptional agave spirits right here at our very own farm and distillery. Must visit place when visiting Up Country Maui. I didn't know they had an agave spirit distillery on Maui... when I found out we had to stop by. When you visit you'll be greeted by a beautiful view of the Agave Plants... just park anywhere in front and walk into the tasting room ... we were welcomed by the friendly knowledgeable staff which gave us a some great information and history of the farm and agave spirit making. I highly suggest just stopping by for a quick tasting of Hawaii's only agave spirit distillery on Maui. Tour & Tasting Options: Tours Mon and Wed @11am $65- Tour + Tasting $43- Just the Tour Highly Recommend Tasting: Mon-Sat $15 for 3 samples $22 for 5 samples Kamaʻāina Special: 10% off (excludes tours).

I've been to Maui many times and never heard about Waikulu Distillery. My cousin and I decided to stop in for a tequila tasting. We both opted for the 5 spirits tasting. The tasting included Batch 1, Silver; Ohana Reserve Silver; 2025 Opio; Ohana Reserve 12+ Months; and Smoke Pepa. I wouldn't say I'm a tequila connoisseur, but I do love tequila. Our server was Viv, and she was delightful. She poured us a special tequila, but I can't remember what it was. I ended up purchasing a bottle of Smoke Pepa, and I'm looking forward to sharing it with my next door neighbor who also loves tequila. We had an amazing experience here, thanks to Viv!

Amazing spot this is truly a hidden gem I'm surprised it's not more popular!! It 100% is going to blow up soon and be a main staple of Maui. I'm a tequila lover and this place blew my mind. On par with Fortaleza, Don Fulano , Cazcanas for those of you who know :) The staff was amazing, the views were awesome. Will come back every trip to Maui!!

This is a must visit while in Maui. We went on the tour and had a tasting! The tour was short, sweet, and very informative. As we know, most tequilas are produced in Mexico , but this tequila is blossoming in a small town called Makawao. Highly recommended!!

    Hannah P.

Amazing tequila tasting experience with Viv! She was super knowledgeable, hospitable, and genuine. Love supporting small local businesses- my husband and I were in a small intimate tour, met the owner & creator, saw the whole property, and received a clear cohesive lesson on the distilling process. We samples 5-7 agave spirits. Waikulu is paving the way for agave spirits on the Islands- everything is controlled on the farm, keeping it as local and in-house as possible, environmentally friendly, and seeking to help the local economy.

I took my parents for their 44th Anniversary and we all love outdoorsy activities so I knew we'd all enjoy this! We were asked to arrive at 10:30 am for the tour and it lasted until 1-1:30 pm. Arrive with good walking shoes, SPF, light sweater and hat (it can get either a little chilly or hot from the direct sunlight), and well hydrated if possible. We were greeted by our friendly and knowledgeable tourguide, Kate from Maryland! She shared with us so many facts about the locally grown produce from herbs, vegetables, fruits, to the friendly worms, to compost and facts about the Farm and the hardworking staff! It was interactive because we got to sniff the herbs, taste the locally grown lettuce, carry a chicken (as seen in the photo with my mom), and even pick the Cherry coffee! After the 2 hour tour, the last hour takes you back to this beautiful seating area in a garden like setting for your 4 course lunch! Each course, the chef comes out and shares details of each course. First course was a Medley of Greens grown on the farm with Tangerine vinaigrette. It was a generous portion for our party of 3 and tried to eat it throughout. There was spiraled carrots and radish with julienned snap peas. Second course was Pan Seared Ono (their proteins are all locally sourced) with Mamaki Tea and Lemongrass Rice with Bok Choy, Collared Greens and Cabbage. Third course was my favorite! I'm usually a big fan of fish but the chicken was so savory and that rub was delish! It was an Organic, Cage Free Chicken with Coffee Cherry Citrus rub with Caramelized Coffee Honey Hash of Carrots, Parsnips, Rutabaga and Celery Root. The spread was a Turmeric and Parsnip puree. Last course of dessert was the O'o Freshly Brewed Coffee with Milk and Simple Syrup with a Dessert Platter of Fresh sliced Pineapple, Tangerine and Apple with Homemade Chocolate Truffles. The meal left us full and nourished! What a wonderful anniversary gift to give my parents. We truly enjoyed it and even made some new friends, both local and visiting.

My son enjoyed the mahi mahi tremendously, which for a kiddo who only eats chicken normally, is a huge compliment! I thought the tour was very informative and interactive as well. Our guide Molly let us pick, smell, and explore a lot of the plants they have growing on the grounds. She also very nicely picked a tangerine for my son because he really wanted one. Overall, worthwhile experience, despite the long drive from Lahaina. I would do this again, whether it is the brunch + coffee tour or the lunch tour!
