I came in right before the COVID shutdown--they had a huge jug of hand sanitizer at the front. I had a taste for some curry chicken and salara--the reviews looked good so I decided to try them out. First, I noticed that the restaurant is spacious and well lit--this made it very inviting. Second, the service was good--that's always what you look for. There wasn't much of a line--I ordered the curry chicken with rice and salara. They only had the ends left but that was okay with my--I'm not too picky. My meal was delicious--I have no complaints. I've been here probably ten times - I'd say that it's consistently really good, but not amazing. While everything is cooked very well. For the curries, I'd say it could use a bit of an increase in the spice department. It's a few notes away from being incredible. For the desserts, they're often a bit flat -- I get a lot of generic pastry taste. It's a few steps away from being sweet, or savory. It's just kind of ::pastry:: (The patties, on the other hand, are a bit too heavy on the onion powder!) The bread - again, good - but nothing to go out of your way for. Also, while I know prices go up - a small side of rice was $5.50. Cringe! Should have sent that one back. Love the fast service, and it's very clean. And idea: labeling the food can go a long way. I don't know what salt fish is. Is this the beef, or the goat? Help me give you money. I just moved in area, so exploring numerous restaurants, Saw this was affiliated with Sybil's so knew it was for me! Wrong! I've had the privilege of experiencing the Linden/Liberty/Lefferts trinity in Queens for amazing Caribbean food, so my standards are high. Reviews posted for IE received a great response from restaurant manager. I ordered a goat curry today and the same issue of fatty goat with little flavor remains. When I asked why no boned chicken I was told boneless chicken is easier for kitchen staff. I guess leaving the fat on the goat is easier. First off I must say customer service is amazing and there fast to. The food is great I come here all the time I used to live near by. But I don't mind traveling to come here it's worth the wait. The baked good are soooo fresh and honey the sorrel omg. I love getting it when in the summer because they give it to you a little frozen that way it stay cold. This review is based only on the pastries. I tried them all and they were just tgecway I like it. The cheese straw had a hint of spice exactly the way I enjoy it. Overall its a fast casual spot that is modern, clean and serves you fairly quickly. Also have a small bakery inside with a bunch of assorted patties, breads and sweets. Food: Plenty of classic Caribbean food options - jerk chicken, curries, plantains, etc etc. Ended up trying the Jerk chicken which was decent but nothing memorable and I think could have used more spices overall (3.5/5). I came across this place while on my way to see the YeahYeahYeahs in Brooklyn at Kings Theatre. This restaurant is a few blocks away from the theatre which worked out great for my friends and I. I ordered the curry chicken dish (I got the kids size) because I wasn't starving but I had to eat before the show. I will say the regular portions are huge (which is a good thing for the price). It was yummy I just wish there was cabbage available to go with it. I expected the spice level to be a bit hotter but the food didn't have a spice to it. Next time I'm here I'll try the stew chicken. This is our first time here and after reading the positive reviews, we had to try. First off, the place itself is very clean with an open view to the kitchen. Glad to see during the pandemic, that a restaurant cares for the safety of the customers. The staff service was very courteous and the person took the time to explain the menu. I got a jerk chicken with okra as my side and rice and peas. Jerk chicken was decent but didn't knock my socks off. I bit into two very small pieces of bones during the meal so just be careful. My son got the bbq chicken with maduro and white rice. He loved it and finished the whole meal. I took a bite of the bbq chicken and it was pretty tender. I also got some Jamaican beef patties for $2.50 each. It was just okay. For dessert, we got guava pastry and a cheese roll. My son wasn't enthused with the guava pastry. But all in all, I would give it a strong 3 stars and would certainly recommend anyone who's looking to try Caribbean food. The staff gave me some mustard sauce to try. Sooooo good, what a gem in this part of town. I'm not too aware of Caribbean/Jamaican food - and the cashier was more than happy to make recommendations. I got a sample of all the baked goods - was commuting, so couldn't really get anything spillable - and man was everything beyond delicious! I got the cheese tart, guava tart, beef pattie, chicken pattie, and veggie pattie. I've only tried a couple, and nothing disappointed. Much better than anything you can get from Manhattan, and the price is killer! 1-3$ each for the pastries listed above, and they take card! Cashier also showed a sense of pride for what they offered. #I thought they said the Oxtail Stew was $17. But after I ate, I looked at my receipt and it said $7.50, but it was marked as BBQ Chicken. There's no price on the #menu board of how much Oxtail was. So I'm not sure if they had to just put BBQ Chicken in the system, because there was no Oxtail on the menu? Or just made a mistake. Anyway, it was #cold and not that good and I love oxtail. If it really was $17, I would say 2 stars. But if it was $7.50, I would say 5 stars. Because that's a pretty good deal, especially if you microwave it. I noticed there was a #guy in front of me in line that wanted the Jerk Chicken and the server asked him if he wanted the Jerk Chicken platter he just packaged up for another guy that didn't want it anymore. Gentleman who took my order couldn't tell me the difference between Jamaican beef patty and spicy beef cocktail. He said they just taste different. lol... so I brought 1 of each for me and Alexander. Spicy beef cocktail looks like a mini beef pot pie. Never would I had thought that little bitty thing would be so damn delicious. I've walked past this place probably over a dozen times and had never gone inside. Looking into the window, from the decor and "choose one of each" type menu style, I'd thought that this was some kind of West Indian version of Chipotle. I was right and wrong. After spending a few hours doing errands, my husband (a Crown Heights-raised Trini, in case you're wondering) and I decided to stop in. It was about 4:00pm and they were operating on a skeleton crew (there was literally a team of two on staff.) My husband wanted the roti, but because they were understaffed, we would have had to wait,. We were starving, so we ordered rice and peas. He chose stew beef, which they were also out of. I chose the curry chicken and he went with that too after finding out the last of the stew beef was gone. The food plates were $7.50 each, and gave us a generous portion of rice and chicken. My husband commented that the food tasted very "clean," which I'd agree with. The spices were a perfect marriage of savory and pungent, yet not overpowering. I'd have to say that the meal hit the spot, especially on a very windy, cold-ish afternoon when many shops were closed. The only reason I gave the place a 4 was not having some items, though they deserve a 4.5. If you were unsure, apparently the restaurant is owned by the same family who owns Sybil's, the small Guyanese chain. Her likeliness and story decorates the walls. For the Brooklyn heads, may recall her outpost on Church Avenue just off Flatbush Avenue, which closed several years ago. You're getting a good value for your dollar and if you know Sybil's, a good product. The place also had West Indian favorites like currant and coconut rolls, pastries, jerk chicken, plantains, and other staples. I'd definitely go again. read more

It's pleasant to walk in to a restaurant and be greeted with a smile from everyone standing behind the counter. The menu is clean cut & easy to follow. The jerk chicken and vegetable lo mein I had was great. The chicken was well seasoned (not overpowering), moist and very flavorful, the vegetable lo mein was also great to have along with my jerk chicken...the noodles weren't over cooked or soggy which I was happy about and the mixture of vegetables added a great texture. So check this out: I've been a fan of island patties since I first discovered them upon moving here 10 years ago. We've been faithful friends during the Great Recession, and I've had them all over: from Golden Krust to pizza shops to the dirt cheap ones you buy frozen at Jacks 99 cents store. But the cocktail variety here is made discernibly with such care and precision by the family-like staff that I'll endure hour+ long field trips from Jersey City to get them in my mouth.
