This is for a brief visit on 10/18/14 around 12 noon, but very memorable specifically for the warm, customer service and absolutely delicious Lechon Kawali. I accompanied my mom and her cousin to Perry Avenue Mall. Talk about memory lane since I grew up in Bremerton in the early 1970s -1980s before I left for Seattle to attend college. Of course, there are a whole host of different businesses now, but Island Flavors is a worthy destination for Filipino cuisine. My mom picked up three portions of Lechon Kawali (under $50) which was perfectly chopped and arranged for a family gathering to celebrate two birthdays and an anniversary. The owner, Belen, kindly added a bottle of Mang Tomas lechon sauce and two packages of her signature, homemade, brightly individually wrapped macaroons. The store has the usual goods, fresh produce, movie rentals, regional tschotskes/knick knacks, and the weeklies to keep up on the local Filipino community news. But the best part for me was oogling the glass case of the steam table with several entree choices. If we weren't having a mega family feast, I would have gladly ordered a plate lunch and ate there. The food looked amazing and judging from the people seated already and eating - convinced me to note this for a future visit next time I'm in Bremerton. Belen said she just finished a special catering order of over a thousand lumpia and have had folks drive in from Tacoma and Gig Harbor to dine at Island Flavors. This is definitely on my hole-in-the-wall culinary radar screen. BTW - the Lechon Kawali was one of the best I've ever had. I snagged a piece holding the tray in the back seat on the way back. Ate my quota during the celebration meal - tender, perfectly seasoned, and that crispy top portion. Didn't need any dipping sauce, sorry Mang Tomas. read more

The grocery store section is a bonanza of Filipino grocery products, the go-to place in a fifty mile radius for such items. Their ice cream station includes several flavors rarely encountered, and only encountered where Filipino tastes are catered to. The purple yam ice cream, and the mango ice cream, are super-super good. Over time we'll try more flavors though it'll be hard not to always choose mango. As a restaurant it is spacious, so if you have a large party, you can all sit at the same enormous table. Food is put together off a hot table where you can point at what you want. People were devouring this stuff with oos and ahs. They don't provide enough that's vegetarian for our family to have a meal here though. Will still come and use the grocery store side of their huge space. Oh, and as a footnote, gosh oh gee they were friendly folks running the place! I don't need or expect such personal attentiveness, and they were quite busy to pull it off so well, but it was lovely they were so sincere and seemed to love running their business. I come here solely for their lechon kawali! I ask for it whole, and cut it up myself at home. I find that portions seem smaller if you have them cut up a slab for you. So ask for it whole and chop it up at home! Super tasty and crispy! I don't get lechon kawali often b/c I have to watch my cholesterol. But when I'm craving for some lechon kawali, this is the place to get it! read more

Very unwelcoming employees. There were only two of them and me. Place was EMPTY. So how do you not have food? Ran out of pancit. Now, when you go to a Filipino restaurant, you know it's either all pancit, all rice, or half and half. Seemed to me like I wasn't welcomed there. We met up with my mom on a rainy day. We walked in kind of cold and pretty wet. My husband wanted to go because it's close to us and since he is half Japanese, he grew up on a lot of the stuff on the shelves. We were stocking up on nori, Mochi, pocky and other treats to satisfy his need, when my mom walks in. Sweet lady, not sure when to hush. A few days go by, we come back, the woman says "Hello neighbor, welcome back." Once again we stock up on goodies. I was very happy the woman had remembered us but not got upset with my moms prying questions. We go here Also to introduce our son and nephews to the snacks. They love them, and we will be back every week to get our lovely treats and delicious breads for my husband and the kids. read more

The best Filipino food in Bremerton by far. Belen and Jess put together a nice cafeteria style selection of Filipino food, call ahead and they'll have lumpia hot and ready for you. Always hot and fresh. They are great friendly people, I love going here for lunch, but a great place for a casual dinner too. A grocery store and restaurant, lots of fresh groceries, quite the selection too! I had them make lumpia for a family reunion, it was a hit! Give them a try! read more

I've been going here with my family since 2012. Island Flavors have always come through for our lunches, dinners, and occasional parties. We usually get the delicious Lumpia and Pancit combo and other times the Pork and Rice with different sides. Customer service is top-notch and if they are busy, they will make sure to help you ASAP. read more

There was nothing wrong with this place, food was fine not bad at all; restroom smell super chemically bleach strong smell, place was ok. They have a no working fridge that storages their cleaning supplies, so seems like they use a lot of chemicals to clean the place. Lol read more

I will never return to Island Flavor! From the moment I entered the store, I was given a killer mean look from the unwelcoming bird-eyed lady behind the counter. She did not even say hello when we were ready to order. She just stood there and looked with those small piercing eyes. This was totally the most unwelcoming experience I ever seen or witness! It is no excuse for a restaurant to treat potential customers this way. Never again will I return to this run-down, dirty, crappy looking store! Visited this restaurant today and wasn't happy. Food was priced too high. I had ordered a single combo plate for $6.99, on the combo plate I ordered shrimp with jack fruit and was given only ONE piece of shrimp and rest jack fruit. My husband ordered a 2 combo plate that consist of sweet and sour ribs and sinigang. Well to find out the sweet and sour was a side order. Too over priced for the portions you get on your plate. I don't recommend this restaurant at all. It's best to eat at a Chinese buffet for 20.00 dollars . And enjoy the shrimp verses 20.00 at a place that is saving leftovers for the next day sale.
