This is the most nastiest Jamaican Food I have ever eaten. I just ordered a Med jerk chicken and rice and peas. The chicken taste like left over with barbecue sauce thrown on it to cover the leftover taste and spice it up with whatever!!!!' The leftover taste peas half cooked tasteless. Arrived right before closing so choices were slim. Tried the oxtail and jerk chicken platters. The oxtail was delicious and meaty. The portion was decent to other places. The jerk chicken was too spicy for me!! My partner loved it. Both came with rice and peas. We were able to get one portion of cabbage - very good! First time trying authentic Jamaican food and very happy I came here for it. The owner, was so sweet, and offered me samples of their meats before buying which I thought was very kind of him. I chose the curry chicken, which has a little kick (heat) to it but not overwhelming. The rice and peas were perfectly cooked and the steamed cabbage was also very delicious. The Tropical Rhythm Mango Carrot juice drink was refreshing and not too sweet. The Ginger Beer was actually really good also.. I've been going to get oxtail platters at this place for years. The large platter is only $17 with which you get a healthy portion!! The ox tails here are cooked to perfection. You'll be hard-pressed to find somewhere better. Make sure you ask for some gravy over your rice! Delicious! read more

Last month, (August) I was invited by a pastor friend, who lives in Jersey, to meet at Island Jerky, and when I initially saw the restaurant I thought it was closed down because it looked dilapidated. But when I got close enough, I saw it was open, and there were only two tables, one table, the owner John and his daughter, Ouida, were sitting; so my pastor friend, along with 2 other pastor friends sat at the other table. At first, I was suspicious that the food was not going to meet my high standard for good authentic Jamaican food. My wife and I travel all over the country looking for good Jamaican food and we know what's good and what's a "knock off". I chose a safe order and ordered the Jerk Chicken while my pastor friends ordered the oxtails and rice. Unfortunately, you can only get rice and cabbage with your meat on the weekdays, but you can get Mac and cheese on the weekends. Man oh man, I was pleasantly surprised by the well marinated jerk taste in the chicken. You could tell the meat was seasoned through and through, and then I tasted my friends oxtails and rice and I was smitten. I fell in love with Island Jerk so much that I told my wife that she had to come and taste the food. So, we drove all the way from Blue Bell, Pa to Willingboro, NJ for Jerk Chicken and oxtails, and it seemed like it was better than the first time! My wife was in awe of how meaty and savory the oxtails were. In fact, the platters are so meaty you can get two meals out of them. The large oxtail platter was $23 dollars and the large jerk chicken platter was $19 dollars. Compared to a lot of Jamaican restaurants that was a good price. I highly recommend you try Island Jerk, even though it might look run down on the outside, I can truthfully say, John and Ouida, make the main thing the main thing! The food is good! The outside/inside is a bit off putting so it's understandable that you might be reluctant to try this place. I do think if they tried a bit, it would make a good difference in presentation. Anyway-- the jerk chicken was so good. The service was excellent. The food was divine and a whole lot packed in the containers. Enough for 2 meals. Not a fan of the raw cabbage. Thought was going to cooked cabbage. But otherwise very good. Definitely go again when in area. They have been there for 17yrs. read more

Very good food. Hospitality was fabulous! My mother and I stopped by and made sure we ordered and took food home. John has been there for 15yrs and his pleasant personality was just what I was looking for. Love my Jamaican ppl and he was so kind and friendly, as were his customers. His front man was extremely helpful and we thoroughly enjoyed every bit of being here today. Food was Delish. My Mom enjoyed her oxtail, my daughter enjoyed her jerk. This place use to be good once upon a time but since covid-19 the prices have went up twice within a matter of two weeks and portions have went down specially with the jerk chicken they went from giving you 5-6 nice pieces of jerk chicken to now its 4 pieces of chicken and most of that is bone, they never have macaroni and cheese and when they do have it they are being stingy with it. The cabbage is a hit or miss if it flavourful or not at this point I'm going to have fall back from going their this last experience wasn't a good one so be aware of what your getting when you go their. read more

The food was very good, I am very particular with my oxtails because I am from NY and there is nothing like my mother's oxtails, but they nailed it. I will be coming back. The oxtails was tender and the right amount of spice. The portion was good for the price as well, We got a medium. The rice and beans was very good no hard rice as well. Cabbage was soft not crispy. I enjoyed it. I also ordered curry chicken for my kids and husband, who enjoyed it as well. The owner was friendly and the customer service was very good as well even though they were about to close when I came in. I would definitely call in my order or just in advance, if I can, next time because although the website says they close at 8p, they were getting ready to close earlier. found this place on yelp and decided to give it a try as i was in the mood for Caribbean food that evening. the restaurant is located in a mini strip mall next to a deli and a seafood market. when i first walked in i was kinda taken aback. the ceiling was falling but there was someone who came in after me who seemed as though he was there to repair it so i didn't think about it any further. there was a menu located in the window before you walked in so i decided to order brown stew chicken. it comes with rice and peas and cabbage. first i'll say the portion size was large even for what they considered a "large". i would have preferred better containers because the gravy from the chicken spilled out into my bag but again that doesn't have anything to do with the food itself. the chicken was good however it was a tad bit spicy. i wasn't expecting the spice. it actually made it hard to eat because it was overwhelming at times. those who like or want spice would have been satisfied but that just wasn't what i was looking for. the cabbage and the rice was good. for $10 overall i was satisfied. i would probably go back and try something different. read more
