Last time I visited was a lot better than the first time. My very first time visiting, the guy pulled a fast one on me; he wouldn't fill the ice cream scoop all the way. It was like hollowed shells instead of full scoops. He had figured out how to half scoop the ice cream scoop and he considered that a full scoop. The cup was so light, there was hardly any ice cream in the cup, the ice cream was hard and I guess he didn't feel like digging, and he charged me $10. The time was the opposite. What I appreciate about Island Pops beyond the amazing flavors (I mean, Ovaltine? How chocolate malt ice cream isn't more readily available is insane to me) is that it's not excessively sweet. It tastes exactly like what you'd expect homemade, small batch ice cream to taste like. Stopped in this Brooklyn gem tonight for some summer treats and my taste buds were extremely satisfied! I loved my rum raisin sorbet & vegan raspberry cookies (note: the cookies are out sourced from another company but still very delicious) . My sister and I sat outside and enjoyed our treats and even got to chat with the owner Caleb for a bit. Island Pops has four ice popsicles, my favorite is the Sorrel and Passion Fruit. Guess what? They are not extremely sweet, they are just right. The ice cream is fabulous and my favorite is GrapeNut. They have this other ice cream called Passion Fruit and it has cake pieces in the ice cream. It looks good but I haven't had the time to try it yet. Will keep you posted. This was such a great find and the staff was so kind and patient! The Caribbean folks really know how to do ice cream! I was passing by and noticed their sign advertising a limited edition sea moss flavor and was instantly intrigued. As I was explained to, sea moss itself is bland but nutritious so Island Pops mixed it into a nutmeggy-vanilla base that tasted delightfully mellow and had a gorgeous velvety texture. I was so tempted to bring a pint home but unfortunately my freezer space is pretty limited so I opted for a cone instead. We were only allowed two flavors (which was fine) but then we're rushed to make a decision because "customers" were coming through the door. I finally made it out to Island Pops! Nothing I love more than supporting a black owned business but on top of that a Caribbean business. Their flavors are reminiscent of childhood memories growing up on the island of Grenada. Coconut, rum and raisin , nutmeg just to name a few. Tonight I picked up their ponche de creme , rum and raisin and banana baileys coconut. Their ponche de creme is a Christmas time flavor and lasts until the end of December- it is decadent and reminds me of Christmas back home - of sorrel and ham , black cake and Christmas parang. Island pops is a much needed piece of light in the darkness that is 2020. If you're a Caribbean national like me and looking for a piece of home this Christmas and throughout the year I strongly recommend Island Pops. VERY POOR CUSTOMER SERVICE! I'm writing my review now because this is the second bad experience I am having. I love support my people; Caribbean people. But this time took me over the edge. I I place a large order over the phone and was given a time to pick up when the order would be ready. Drove 45 mins to the location and when I got there I was told they sold part of my order to someone else and ask if they can replace it. UNACCEPTABLE! I want what I ordered... I had to wait over 30 minutes for them to get my order together again. If they are not rushing u to order in store they are messing up when you order ahead of time. I love their products and would hope things can be better in the future please. Ps. If management sees this: PLEASE FIX YOUR SERVICE AND MAKE YOUR CUSTOMERS' SHOPPING EXPERIENCES BETTER. After a nice stroll through Crown Heights, a necessary stop was made to taste the exotic ice cream that's flooding my social media timeline. Upon entering, I couldn't help but notice the palm sitting in the corner that quickly brought me into a Caribbean vibe. The galvanize against the countertop gave that trendy storefront look an element of 'Shanty Shop' - a quaint family owned establishment usually built by family or neighbors in the community to sell goods. The menu selection was simple yet confusing due to their check mark and x system showing the flavor that was available. As customers came in the impression was that the flavors with an "x" were not available which made it seem as if the shop had limited stock. That was quickly corrected when the owner gave a bit of humor with reverse psychology regarding the checks and balance system. As more customers poured into the ice pop shop, the owner told tales of "back home" when Caribbean parents dropped off the children to grandma's house. He engaged the customers in stories about drinking Ovaltine- A chocolate malt drink served hot or cold. The Ovaltine tin presumably had chocolate powder in it, but the kids would either eat it all or pour mound in the milk as a bedtime treat or morning tea without telling grandma it was close to the finish. That sweet story clearly conveyed the owners' rationale for serving up that particular flavor. The Ovaltine ice cream had a hint of chocolate malt flavor like pouring milk into the Ovaltine tin to absorb what was left. I'd expect the flavor to be more chocolatey but it was delicious. The Guinness ice cream also had a hint of stout as grandma's recipe for mixing stout and milk for the children to "build up their system". lol The rum raisin is the boozy best! Each piece of raising nice and thick with rich rum flavors. They've got this one right! The nutmeg was pronounced!! BIG UP to the GRENADIAN SPICE! That's a winner! And the mango chow ice pop...Halleluja AMEN! All authentic mango chow flavors- sweet, salty, tangy, tantalizing. The ice cream shop is a jewel in the community. Customers sat and savored the flavors while reminiscing and chatting about life. I shall return! read more

The customer service here was extremely disappointing. We were excited to try the ice cream, as it came well reviewed. Upon entering the store we were immediately rushed to choose a flavor and pay. This was our first visit, so we wanted to check it out and see what they had to offer. We were allowed to sample two flavors only before again being rushed to order. There was one other couple in the store who was leaving; no long line or reason to rush us. Also note, they have a full coffee menu, but when we wanted to order a coffee they said no they wouldn't make any. The ice cream itself was quite good, I would give it 4/5 stars. I saw this place on Instagram, and was immediately excited to try the ice cream. As the child of caribbean parents, ice cream flavors such as Grapenut, Rum Raisin, and Coconut are nostalgic and so tasty, When I walked in with my partner, we were greeted by one of the employees. She immediately started pressing us for our order. I shared that it's our first time, so we wanted to sample some flavors. Within two minutes she started pressing us again to order. There was no one behind us, so I was confused as to what the rush was about. When her friend entered after us, her attitude completely changed, it was all smiles. The ice cream was wonderful. However, the service was really disappointing, especially since we'd been looking forward to trying this place out. Maybe it was just my husband, sister,mom and I but we went with high expectations and was disappointed. The soursop did not taste like soursop, most of the ice creams did not have the explosive flavor caribbean ice creams come with. I do like that everything was clean. The ice pops, sorrel and guava were watered down and portions tasted like frozen ice more than frozen flavored ice. Not worthy of pictures. We didn't take anything to go. I grew up eating fraco VI, raspow Panama and Lindy from the Caribbean. We were all disappointed. We vowed never to go back. read more

Interestingly, I heard about this spot from a woman in town from Toronto, so I had to check it out. After trying out several different flavors (and loving all of them), I ordered one scoop of Guiness caramel, one scoop of sorrel, and one scoop of nutmeg. The Guiness caramel (as well as a couple others (contain alcohol, but I don't think there's much. I've also tried the soursop, and I wanna try the banana Bailey coconut, but my memories of Ovaltine weren't that fond, so I'mma pass on that one. Maybe. I also like the reusable orange spoons that come with each order; I've already collected a few of those. The last time I was there, they were testing out some new desserts, but I'm not sure if they've decided to sell them. Either way, I'll be back frequently. read more
