While heading home after barhopping, we passed by this cute gelato spot and decided for a night cap. It's nice that they open until midnight as we were some of the last customers. They also let us sample some flavors. I decided on Pistachio and Milk for a Small Cup ($8.50). It even comes with a mini cone, which is adorable. The gelato is very creamy and authentic like you're in Italy. With that said, I found it rather pricey. Now that I think of it, somehow my total was $23 for two smalls when it should've only been $17+tip. read more

It was raining and somehow it made me crave gelatos. The best thing about that means there was no line. I got the mandarin & mixed berries. My wife got a dark chocolate with pomegranates and vanilla cream with lemon zest. It was delicious. I just wished the water cones weren't cones so I could place them down on a table. Also I wished we got to try more than 2 flavors max. read more

New York does gelatos well, and one place helping give this image is Gelateria Gentile. This cute corner shop, nicely lit in a largely residential neighborhood of Williamsburg at night, is open late and people flock here even late in the evening for after-dinner pleasure. But this place can be easily enjoyed during the day with their espresso-based drinks and pastry offerings. I also liked that they have waffle-cone "cups" as an option to the standard cups - but the standard cups do come with the cone put upside down on top of the ice cream so you won't be missing much. The chocolate ice cream was dark and rich - one of the best chocolate gelato I've had in a long time. I would order this again. For the unique flavors, I liked their "crema antica" which is their vanilla cream with lemon zest - I could eat this all the time since it's a simple yet not blasé flavor - perfect for anytime in the day, any day of the week. They had a multitude of flavors on the wall, and based on their flavors, and their pastries, I can definitely vouch that they're sticking with their Italian roots. I'll be back for sure. read more

Who isn't a gelato fan? We popped in for a mid-afternoon treat with our daughter and our timing was just right. No line and no long wait. In fact, there was seating too! We hadn't done any prior research before going there, so it was a nice surprise to see that the owners are Pugliese, as my husbands family is as well. We enjoyed stracciatella gelato and mixed berry sorbetto for my three year old. They also had a small selection of Italian pastries that caught my eye. I might even order their panettone this holiday season to see if my Pugliese in-laws approve. read more

I somewhat expected more from this place since the line was out the door and the reviews are so high. I ordered the black cherry and the hazelnut. The hazelnut was the STAR-- it was so smooth and creamy, and if I were to go again I'd just get a jug of it. The black cherry was good enough, but I wish that flavor were more rich. The cream gelato was slightly icy. I also just wish there were more variety in flavors. The spread is pretty standard, so you'll find a classic, but would love some more options. The line moves pretty quickly, though! And it's open late which is always a plus. read more

My group and I had a really disappointing experience here, and feel like it needs to be said. The gelato itself might be fine, but the service completely ruined it for us. The woman who helped us was extremely rude, visibly annoyed, and honestly made us feel unwelcome from the moment we walked up. When I asked about the flavors, I had to repeat myself multiple times because she either ignored us or walked away mid-conversation. When she did respond, she rolled her eyes and gave me attitude like I was inconveniencing her just by being there. I understand everyone has off days, but this went beyond that, it felt unprofessional and disrespectful. Customer service matters, especially in a place where people come to enjoy themselves. Unfortunately, this experience left a really bad impression, and we won't be coming back. read more

Amazing ice cream. I'm a fan of gelato and this is the real deal! The flavors are traditionally Italian gelato and delicious. I tend to order the cream based gelatos but this time I opted for the frutto de bosco (sorbet) to go with stracciatella and pistachio. The Williamsburg location is very quaint. This review is regarding their TWO SAMPLES ONLY policy. I can't review how the gelato tasted because I couldn't get one. I sampled one flavor which wasn't to my liking and then asked if I could sample the milk chocolate & the dark chocolate to which I was told "No. we allow only two samples." Honestly, I find this ridiculous and have never come across a gelato/icecream shop that puts limits on tasting those minuscule samples. It is the hottest day in Brooklyn (90F), I walked all the way here and now I'm sitting in a corner crying instead of eating a gelato because I was refused a sample of what I want to get :( read more

Cute spot for creamy gelati, but be prepared to walk and eat, as there isn't much seating. Thankfully, this is New York, not Tokyo, so walking and eating is socially acceptable. I love my ultra-white, ultra-creamy Fior di Latte, and this rendition was far better than Eataly's. My other half got the Spagnola, which came with delightfully tart sour cherry. Delicious desserts! I was looking for Italian pastries at 9pm last night and found Gentile Gelatieri Williamsburg on seamless.com. Their menu offers a selection Italian sodas, hot chocolate, coffee, expresso, cappuccino (and more), gelato, pastries, desserts and crepes. The selection reminded me of Italy. Everything I love. I'm always looking for gelato, especially since Grom gelato (a great fresh fruit gelato shop that was located over by Central Park Columbus Circle) closed its doors. I couldn't believe it when I found this place. Where have you been hiding? Lol. Plus they deliver. I tried : 1) The Pistacchio Crepe - pistachio spread and powdered sugar on top. It was one of the best crepes I've had in the city! The texture was so satisfying, the pistachio melts in your mouth; the flavors tasted homemade & very fresh. So good! 2) The Torta Nera - Dark Chocolate Sponged Cake. Delicious, moist and not too sweet. The photo online shows it topped with powdered sugar- mine arrived bare, no sugar. Luckily I had some powdered sugar and topped it myself. It was a simple dessert but sometimes you want something sweet and uncomplicated. The torta was the perfect contrast to the crepe. The crepe was the more impressive dessert though. Very different but both enjoyable. Gentile Gelatieri's website has an interesting section on the company's history. They've been a Gelatieri since 1880. Recipes have been "handed down for generations" Originally from Southern Italy they now have shops in New York, including this one in Williamsburg BK. I've come here a few times already and every time I come, I always get a really good combination of flavors. You get up to 4 samples before making your order which is really nice on the staff because their menu is seasonal as well as some fixtures. For this particular night I got the hazelnut and the lemon and those flavors complemented each other very well - sour and sweet, slushy and gelato, light and thick. And it came with a small cone which I like the crunch. read more

I miss the gelaterias of my home country. Gentile is the closest alternative to hopping a plane for a taste of that creamy goodness. The Crema Antica is a must try - like cake batter with little pops of lemon zest - but quite honestly every flavor is a crowd pleaser. The lines are long especially on the weekends, but well worth the wait. read more

Stopped by after a birthday dinner to celebrate with a sweet treat. I think they limit a few samples per person but they are pretty generous with the scoops. I enjoyed the one w the chocolate chips and the dark chocolate. I could not tell you the names of these flavors off the top of my head but follow your heart. I had lovely company and enjoyed my gelato and especially the tiny cones that they served it with. Amazing time and perfectly romantic. read more

I usually love this place. the gelato is incredible. but the last 2 times i've been there my cup was barely filled. granted the place was packed (on a Tuesday at 9 pm, weird) but this is the second time the portion size has been so so little. for the total of 2 cups being 18-19 dollars, it's unacceptable. not sure i'll be back. read more

Closest to authentic gelato you can find in Brooklyn. They have the trademark flavors in all Italian lingo - tutti frutti, nocciola, etc. They also top your gelato off with a mini cone as well! I always opt for almond, coconut, and yogurt as they are my classic favorites. Not too sweet, not too heavy, and always a favorite treat after dinner. Been a solid regular here and come here when I crave more authentic Italian gelato. read more

It's so nice to discover new dessert places in Williamsburg. After dinner last Friday, my friends and I were in the mood for something sweet. It's always a good sign when you see a big line in front of a dessert place and this place had one wrapped around the storefront. We decided to join the line and asked the people waiting in line for suggestions and it paid off. This place serves up good gelato. They have a variety of flavors. You get 2 tastings before picking your final choice. I figured go big or go home and so opted for the Cono cialdo with 3 scoops of gelato: spagnola (vanilla and amarena cherry) , fondente (dark chocolate) , and croccantino al Rhum (vanilla swirled and topped with caramel and sprinkled with chopped nuts and there's rum in it). All of the gelato flavors I picked were delicious. My husband got the affogato with chocolate and vanilla gelato topped with whipped cream. Coincidentally, my friend ended up getting the same flavors I did and loved them. I will definitely bookmark this place to go back on occasion to try their other flavors. read more

This was a pleasant surprise, I've been walking past all the crowds anytime I'm in the area and want to know what the hype was. They have a great selection of gelato in many flavors. They also sell coffee, pastries, cakes and they have a chart to help you through any allergies. I had an ice cream sugar cone and you have a choice of 2 flavors. They also have free samples if you are unsure. Everyone was friendly, helpful and the store is very clean. I highly recommend them. Just be prepared that you may have to wait a few minutes to get in. Upper Westside Amsterdam and 84th Melted ice cream if you staff is even available or willing to helo. Stopped in on a Sunday with my family and waited in line for an hour while one employee served one cup of At a time and worked the cash register as well. Finally, as we moved only a few paces in line, she closed the store to rush to her second job and told frustrated customers that four employees failed to make it to work. I stp in Monday evening, they were out of their famous Fondanot, and Fondant with orange. I ordered the milk chocolate and Antica Crema, but they forgot the Antica Crema and only gave me the milk chocolate. When I asked for the Antica, they took the chocolate and brought melted Antica. Really hope management takes this review to consideration. I came with my boyfriend and we asked to try a couple of flavors before making my selection. I ordered a small cup of the fondante after trying it. We are 2 people. We both tried the flavors and made an order after tasting. Then I wanted to try something else and the rude server said it was 2 flavors per customer. So I said okay we're 2 so can my boyfriend try it? And he made a spoon and I went to take it and he literally held it in his hand so tight so that I wouldn't take it for a few seconds before releasing the spoon. Weird. As if we didn't share the spoon to try the previous flavors before. Both his reaction and the flavor left a bad taste in my mouth so I wanted to just pay and get out of there. The guy charged us a dollar more for the small than he should've. My boyfriend was confused and wanted to say something but I honestly didn't want to argue with him any longer and just paid it and left. At least the first cup was tasty but not worth 10$ for a small cup and definitely not worth the disrespect of the server. Hopefully they make some changes because it was a good quality and I would love to try other things (if I'm allowed) read more

I've worked in restaurants and bars long enough to understand that staff drinking happens, but this was on another level entirely. I came in with a group of friends and one of the bartenders, Will, was so visibly drunk that it made the entire experience uncomfortable. Slurred speech, wobbling behind the bar, taking orders while chewing food with his mouth open -- it was honestly embarrassing to watch. He looked like he absolutely did not want to be there. At one point, my group had been trying to get his attention for another round for quite a while while he stood around talking with coworkers. We then watched staff take a shot together, and when he finally came over he burped mid-conversation and literally had whatever he had just been drinking dribbling down his neckbeard. That was the moment where the whole thing went from unprofessional to just gross. What made it worse was that it didn't seem isolated to one employee. Throughout the night we watched staff openly taking shots and drinking behind the bar like it was a house party instead of a business. There's a difference between bar culture and complete lack of professionalism, and this crossed that line hard. One of the friends I was with actually frequents the DUMBO location and said that the last time she was there, the same bartender also seemed intoxicated, which makes this feel less like a bad night and more like an ongoing issue. The DUMBO location itself is in an amazing spot, which makes it even more disappointing. But ownership seriously needs to get control of what's going on there before someone gets hurt or the place develops a reputation for having drunk staff on the clock. Unfortunately, the experience was uncomfortable enough that my girlfriends and I won't be coming back. I genuinely hope the employee mentioned gets help if this is a regular thing, because nobody should be working service in that condition.

Such a cute shop! They have so many different flavors and it tastes great! I went with my family and friends and they all loved it. It felt like I was in Italy again. We were supposed to go to another ice cream shop but it was a bit of a far walk from the restaurant we were previously at so we ran into this gelato shop gem and we are so glad we did!
