Grilled Jerked Chicken with rice and beans, and Plantains
    Talesha C.

I was able to enjoy this restaurant over lunch around noon. I got the jerk chicken with rice and beans and plantains. It was really good. The plantains were cooked to perfection and really tasty. The jerk chicken and rice and beans was a perfect blend with the jerk sauce. The meat pie was flat and cold but I'm guessing that it would've been better if I was able to heat it up. The service was quick and hospitable. Overall great experience. I'll have to try the curry next time.

Pause.... Stop everything you are doing!!! Now! My brother told me about this place... It may not be fancy from the inside With decor details Or outside... But one thing is for certain... You are going to get authentic Jamaican flavor!!! This review I'm putting out is about the rice and peas And jerk chicken I've had jerk chicken in BROOKLYN NY ( hometown ) Jerk in Jamaica from different parts of the island Jerk chicken in Nebraska Jersey Washington DC But this isn't about the many places my tongue has been No, this is about a restaurant in atlanta One that has become a familiar takeout spot for entertainers... (If you know who you know who) So in this place you will find a feisty, but cool lady at the front... She is good peoples... And her customer service is straight up.. No cutting corners... I got jerk chicken with rice and peas on the side.. The rice and peas had oxtail gravy The rice was different.... I mean, it was adventurous.... Not a single grain undercooked or overcooked Perfect texture The oxtail gravy added a somewhat savory, buttery flavor over rice that was jazzed up with flavor.. This wasn't your regular rice and peas that would have Someone reaching for salt and condiments Everything was already there. I found myself eating it with a spoon And didn't even notice when I hit the bottom of the Container being empty "Mama said there would be days like this" The jerk chicken.... Wow!!!! Probably some of the best jerk chicken I have had in my life!!!! This chicken was so flavorful You could eat the bones and taste smoky, fiery jerk vibes.even in chicken breast It's very hard for people to have jerk chicken taste colorful Where there is breast involved They have achieved it!! The chicken needs no gravy... No need for jerk sauce You want to really sample "da ting" Eat it as it comes to you Don't be fooled by the color if you are new to jerk chicken That's just the spices that color it It's totally legit... Jerk chicken can be... spicy, lip numbing, or just enjoyable I found this restaurant to be enjoyable with enough spice to get your nose running So the question remains Would I go back? I'm in California, and I would fly back for the jerk chicken Matter of fact.. when I book my flight.. I'm going to make sure I land during hours of this wonderful restaurant being open

I pass this place often on my way home from and decided to try it for lunch. The place is very very clean I will give them that. However, the food is just ok. I got the brown stew chicken lunch special. Again, everything was just.... Ok. Nothing special. Decent portion for lunch time. For the first time ever I had a BAD BEEF PATTY. It was hard, cold, and had literally no meat. Every bite was just flakey bread. Then I tore it in half to try to get to the meat and it looked like it had mold or worms or something. They also had no cocoa bread at 12 when they just opened at 11. Probably won't try this place again. Service was good.

Don't look for anything fancy when you enter, however the establishment seems very clean. I was greeted upon arrival by a very vibrant woman, she was so sweet & energetic! I like that they accept tap to pay. I was going to order through Uber eats but the fees for the meal I wanted alone was confusing, and overly expensive. For the best value, I recommend you just order at the restaurant. It's more reasonable. I ordered the oxtail peas & rice and cabbage. I also wanted to order a chicken patty, but at the time there weren't any available. At this establishment you aren't able to substitute the cabbage or rice. Addition of any other side is extra. If I were you I wouldn't anyway. Both were VERY FLAVORFUL. Rice nice, and fluffy. As for the oxtail, I do wish I was served larger pieces. I do wish that the flavor packed a bit more of a punch. However, the more I ate them the better the flavor got. Don't get me wrong they were not nasty at all! Also, the texture was great. Super tender. I recommend this place, and will return.

We were greeted with open arms as if we were family. Food was delicious, Service was warm, friendly and fun. Ambiance was laidback with the rhythm of island music in the air.... First off, let me apologize for not getting pics of the food. It was a rough day. I will do better Yelp, please forgive me. Second, the restaurant is pretty easy to find and parking is easy, but I can see it being a struggle during lunch time. When I entered, there was no one present. It took me a minute to realize you have a bell to ring for service. I rung the bell and was promptly greeted and assisted. The woman that took my order was very sweet and quite comical. For myself, I ordered the Vegan Salmon, Curried, with Rice & Peas, Plantains and Cabbage. I ordered my friend a Vegan Chicken (she wanted jerk but the cashier informed me that was a no-good combination), Brown Stewed, with Rice & Peas, Plantains and Cabbage. During the long wait, the cashier returned from the back (I assume she also helps prepare the food, because she spent a lot of time back there), and informed me that they were out of vegan chicken. She recommended the beef, so I ordered that. I guess the cashier knew that the wait was long so she gave me a Homemade Ginger Beer on the house. Now for the food: Homemade Ginger Beer: very strong ginger taste. A+ Vegan Salmon: very nice texture and taste. I love that it's wrapped in nori. A+ Curry Sauce: very flavorful. A Rice & Peas: dry and bland. C Cabbage: bland. B- Plantains: cooked just right, dark and caramelized. A Vegan Beef: typical vegan beef strips. B+ Brown stew: very flavorful, just right. A Overall, I was pleased. The sauce was able to dress up the rice and peas and the serving size was enough for two meals. A solid place to get a meal.

My review is based off of a program called Fooda. Different restaurants vendors visit my place of employment to sell their food. Island Takeaway is located on Old National however they did business with us at our facility in Gwinett County. I ordered Jerk Chicken, Cabbage, Rice and Peas. The Jerk Chicken was a quartered leg cut into two pieces. Thigh and leg. Nice big size piece of chicken. The flavor was spicy just like I like it but not where my mouth was stinging for hours. That was a plus. The cabbage was good and a tad crunchy but you don't want it to be soggy. Everything was nice. They gave me their business card and let me know they were located across from Grown Folks on Old National. I hope they return again.

    a piece of chicken

the food was OK chiileee. They would've got a 10/10 but telll me whyyyyy I was eating the rice & I found this unknown piece of something located at the bottom of the rice? omg. It had seeds & everything im so confused it grossed me out for like 1 minute lol. overall the jerk chicken was seasoned well & the Mac was decent too. It was giving great value cheese with a lot of seasoning lol

After three years I gave this place another chance. But my opinion still stands. Let's start with the worker, when I walked in she just literally looked at me. No greeting, I know I'm pretty but geez. So I said "Hey, can I get a small rice and peas with heavy oxtail gravy" she said it'll be out in a few minutes. So I'm thinking oh yes, this is going to be good (iykyk) my excitement became sadness as soon as I opened the plate. Still tasteless and literally one half teaspoon of gravy.

As someone who is known for seeking out and truly testing vegetarian options at Caribbean…read morerestaurants, I have to say--Miss Conduck is easily the best Caribbean flavor restaurant in Atlanta. And coming from a Jamaican background, let me be clear: the usual Trinidad vs. Jamaica debate does not apply here. This place stands on its own. From the moment the food hit the table, one thing was consistent across everything we ordered: it was hot, fresh, and made with real intention and flavor. We started with the fried cauliflower bites. The batter was light, crispy, and well done--definitely a solid starter. I wasn't a big fan of the tartar sauce it came with, but it didn't take away from the quality of the cauliflower itself. My friend ordered the jerk chicken rolls, and I have to give credit where it's due--the sauce that came with those rolls was incredible. Easily one of the standout sauces of the night. Next, I had the doubles, and because I like my food with a kick, I asked for pepper sauce. Now, I'll admit--I made my first one obnoxiously hot. But what I discovered was the real winning combination: adding the callaloo on top of the doubles. That was the perfect match. The callaloo itself is blended with so many elements into a rich, flavorful purée, and when paired with the doubles, it created this burst of layered, authentic Caribbean flavor that was just on point. I also ordered a veggie plate with rice and peas, cabbage, and chickpeas, and they did not disappoint. The portion size was generous, and every single item was clearly made with flavor in mind--not just thrown together as an afterthought for vegetarians. I also tried the macaroni pie--it's a smaller portion, but it's true Caribbean mac and cheese, rich and satisfying. The fried plantains were done perfectly--hot, fresh, and with that ideal balance of sweetness and texture. Then came the rasta pasta. My first couple of bites, I thought it needed a little more kick--but by the third bite, everything came together perfectly. You can taste the layers of vegetables building flavor, and there's a subtle heat that isn't overpowering but adds depth. The noodles were cooked exactly how they should be--perfect texture, not overdone, not undercooked. One thing I always pay attention to is this: Is a vegetarian-friendly restaurant also approved by meat eaters? And in this case, the answer is absolutely yes. My friend had the jerk chicken, and she said it was spectacular. She actually lives nearby and already plans to come back regularly. Honestly, I was surprised the place wasn't packed wall to wall. The atmosphere is incredible--it has its own unique style that really makes you feel like you've stepped into the Caribbean. The music, the vibe, everything is intentional. The staff was extremely attentive and friendly, making sure we had everything we needed throughout our visit. We even watched them handle a large party, and they went above and beyond to make sure that group was fully taken care of. All in all, this place exceeded expectations on every level. Five stars without hesitation. If you're in Atlanta and want real Caribbean flavor--whether you eat meat or not--Miss Conduck is a must-visit. I highly recommend making a reservation and experiencing it for yourself.

We tried calling ahead, but no one answered; fortunately, it wasn't too busy when we arrived, so our tardiness wasn't an issue. There was a DJ playing a nice mix of hip hop and R&B, which set a great vibe. We weren't immediately greeted since no one was at the hostess stand, but someone from the kitchen noticed us right away and seated us. They offered a $28 "Girl Brunch" with a choice of cornbread or deviled eggs, plus either jerk chicken fried rice or croissant French toast with blueberry compote, along with a lemon drop. I chose the deviled eggs and croissant French toast and gave the lemon drop to my friend, opting for a mocktail instead. My friend ordered the cornbread and steak and eggs. We both enjoyed everything. I was pleasantly surprised by the croissant French toast, and the mocktail was just as good as any cocktail.
