The wide hard gravel carriage roads that crisscross this seaside park run up and down in elevation and provide a stable platform. The Electric Bike Company Class 1 cruiser bikes did well on the gravel roads taking us through forests of birch, cedar, oak, pine and fir. We heard an eagle screech! The bikes are equipped with insulated bags front and rear, a computer display that tracks your miles, speed, battery life. The bikes are "class 1," which means you must pedal about one crank before the electric motor kicks in, giving you five levels of power to shoot up the hill. We rode 25 miles during our six-hour rental, and still had 50 percent charge in the battery at the end of the day. The seats are wide and cushy with an under-seat shock absorber that really help smooth the gravel roads. Tom and Robin made the experience enjoyable and easy; we got emails a few days before our date with meet-up details, a list of personal items to bring, and how to get a national park pass. We met just inside the park gate, got custom-fitted to the bikes, briefed on the bike operation, and provided with maps and route recommendations. We sought a bike experience in Acadia, and Acadia EBike Adventures delivered on time for a great price to give us a day to remember. Thank you Robin and Tom! Highly recommend!!

We chose the premium tour which is between 3 1/2 to 4 hours and has 4 stops vs. the classic tour which is 2 1/2 hours long and has 3 stops. The narration is very good and the tour guide knew his stuff. I just felt that the tour was geared for people with limited mobility. During the stops, we didn't really have enough time to explore.....especially on the last stop (Jordan Pond House). They have a restaurant there with a beautiful outdoor area on the water. It is famous for its popovers. I thought for sure, we would be able to sit down a little and have some, but the tour guide talks about the popovers and then says, we won't have time to try them. My friend and I ordered them anyway and brought them to the bus to eat. So all in all, the tour was good, but if you want a more active visit to the park, you should check other options. If you take this company's tours, the shorter version would be sufficient, and then maybe you could do some exploring on your own.

After a few minutes our entire group felt very comfortable zipping around on these bikes. If you want to get a bit of a workout that is still an option, just keep it in first gear. However, if you just want to cruise you can do that too. I must admit, we loved having the option of using electric power on some of the hills we encountered. The kids are ages 7 and 9 and he…read moreadjusted the content of the tour based on the likes and dislikes of my kids that I described to him over the phone prior to arriving. We started the morning on 1+ hour hike through a spruce forest to arrive at the edge of a cove. Seals were in the water and birds in the distance. We literally didn't see a single other person on the hike which is incredible given that it was high season (August). It was a testament to Rich's knowledge of the island. We did visit Sieur de Monts Spring and did a flat loop walk on the long boardwalk trail which was also fairly deserted given its proximity to the tour buses pouring tourists out in front of the nature museum there. Lastly, we made a visit to a tidal pool where we spent a solid 2 hours in the water looking under every rock for starfish, crabs, sea anemones, sea urchins and snails galore. Rich knew each species and explained the good and the bad (green crabs -- invasive, not good; Jonah crabs - native, good) Rich did all of the driving and it made for a relaxing exposure to Bar Harbor/Acadia that we would've never been able to do as quickly on our own. Well worth the money.

A mechanic cheerfully popped on the SPD pedals we brought with us, and we were off, departing from BHBS for the park. We felt like we lived on those bikes for three days. We popped by the shop on the third morning for fresh shifter batteries and a tire top-off. Return was effortless and gave us a chance to browse the well-merchandised shop. We also had an enjoyable chat with owner Peter who definitely knows what he's talking about when it comes to cycling.

The owners, anticipating this, left ear plugs and a noise machine. The internet got a little wonky a few times, but being here was a good reason to get off the grid entirely so it was not an issue. They have a lending building with all sorts of books and left over items from others' stays. Overall, this was a venue which exceeded our expectations. For stays longer than a week I'd leave a couple more towels as they take a little longer to dry overnight, but otherwise, SUPER AWESOME stay. A full five stars!!

The light blue pole building is as unassuming as most Crossfit boxes are. What makes this place special are the people who enter its doors. Owners Nick and Ursula both welcomed me, a travelling stranger, as warmly as all their local athletes. Both have a heart for Crossfit - both in the mechanics of doing tough workouts well and in building the sense of community that can really set this style of fitness apart from almost all others. Crossfit is tough. Sometimes very tough. To quote Crossfit Manayunk's video (search it on youtube): "sometimes you will give 110% and it just won't be enough". I have no doubt that at this box the trainers would be right there with you. Nobody is left to flounder here. I've never had a bad visit to a box but I can honestly say that my exploration of Crossfit Acadia was one of the best. The physical establishment is appealing (how do they fit so many Concept 2 rowers in that small space?), the coaches skilled and the customer/athletes friendly and welcoming. Humans of any fitness level can benefit from Crossfit and if you are fortunate enough to live within driving distance of this affiliate - I highly recommend you consider stopping by. Our e-bike tour along Acadia's carriage roads was the highlight of our trip to ME. Our tour guide, Thomas, was welcoming, encouraging, and informative. He was knowledgeable about the natural history of the park, the many species of animals, and historical aspect of the construction of the carriage roads. The biking part was a bit concerning to us beforehand because I hadn't ridden much in recent years, but the ride was very nice and not overly strenuous. No doubt, Thomas along with Acadia itself, made for a great day. read more

Our time in Bar Harbor was incredible, and the e-bike tour with Thomas was the absolute highlight. What an incredible way to see Acadia National Forest! Thomas is an amazing guide. I was having trouble getting up the first hill and I got myself all anxious and he fixed up my bike settings and calmed me down so off I went for the rest of the day with no issue... just a blast from that point forward. We booked our carriage ride a couple months in advance, knowing that they are frequently booked in…read morelate September through October. Each carriage holds about 8 or 10 adults, so seating is limited. They don't rush tours to accommodate more people, so once they are sold out, you can only hope for a cancellation or no show. The weather can be rainy in October. However, we were lucky to have missed the rain by a day. The Mountain carriage tour allows you to get above the trees and overlook the surrounding areas. During the peak foliage season, the views are spectacular. This year, the peak will likely hit the area after Discovers Day weekend. The tour is narrated by the driver, who provides some history on the park and carriage roads. It is well worth the money spent for the hour, as you get to experience it from the back of a carriage powered by a team of two large horses. The views are breathtaking and provide numerous photo opportunities. Keep in mind that the area has poor Internet connectivity., so use a printed map to guide you to Wildwood Stables.

I didn't really feel like I could take my time to get my camera out as I needed to keep up or didn't want to miss what she was saying. As a result, no one in our group really took any pics. The kayaks were in good condition. We wore splash suits to minimize getting wet. If you are tall, the kayaks will likely be a bit uncomfortable for you (hard to adjust the foot rests). Nice morning on the water.

All too often, you'll get a kayak whose foot-pedals no longer work or vests that are faded or showing signs of wear and tear, but everything looked great. We had a wonderful time exploring the coves and inlets of coastal Maine knowing that our equipment was, well, ship-shape. It's also good to know that we're supporting a family-owned local business.We will definitely keep Acadia Paddle top of our list for our next visit!
