But that is not why I am willing to drive long distances to play the wonderful game of Golf. It's because I enjoy playing on a golf course that are difficult to get on unless you're a member. And if a family or friend invites to you to play, I never say no. The Vineyards Golf Course is a beautifully designed course that easily blends in with its surroundings. The course has three set of tee boxes which we chose to play the back tees of course. Why??, well because the young men I was playing with can drive ball 300 yards plus and sometimes on the fairway. It sure did not help my game when I attempted to drive the ball the distances they seem capable. I found the Vineyards golf course challenging with its rolling fairways, protected by large meandering sand bunkers, false fronts and hazards. We had a windy day that played in our favor on some holes and others which easily challenged us. The par-3 holes were a variety in length, direction and difficulty. The secondary roughs had fescue grasses and in some cases we were lined up along a corn field farm. Vineyards was much more challenging than I anticipated, but I very much enjoyed the course and would love to play there again before the season ends.

The course has gorgeous views and is naturally beautiful, and I really liked that it is not irrigated - such environmental consciousness is rare among golf courses. Leigh, the head golf pro, and the other golf pros who gave us lessons were all great: very informative, skilled and enthusiastic yet down to earth. I would absolutely take another lesson with them. Finally, I also thought the women's locker room was well appointed, which is sometimes not the case among other clubs I have visited that cater to a primarily male clientele despite advertising themselves as open to men and women. All in all, the views, the friendly members and pros, nice facilities and environmentally conscious attitude of this club makes it one I would definitely join if I were in the country club membership market.

Wonderful was the staff and there were plenty of volunteers. Well managed of crowd control in and out of this golf club. Sight of security in place. There are very few trees for shade at Shinnecock, so on this very hot day, I am under an umbrella when following the action from one hole to another. Well kept is this more than 100 years old course. Memorable Sunday with Fleetwood's -7 and back-to-back win for Koepka. Looking forward for US Open's scheduled return to this course in 2026! CHEERS!

The Golf Club is located near Riverhead in Baiting Hollow on the bluffs of Long Island. I was quite impressed with the club house along with the surrounding grounds. The bar was wood accented and set well inside the club members dining area. As far as the golf course, I found the fairways friendly which in most cases allow one to recover from a bad drive. Also the greens were in fabulous shape and quire fast. Overall I very much enjoyed my first visit and golf round at this Golf Club. I am truly am looking forward to my next visit.

At the turn of the 20th century, when golf had just arrived in America..there were no modern golf course maintenance practices or machinery..goats were used to eat the grass and keep the grounds in playable shape..at its birth, golf was the game played simply on the fells and fields where sheep and cattle grazed. Pasture golf celebrates the undercurrent, the backwash maybe, that returns to these grassroots.. you don't play to par..you play just for recreation or against your playing partners..you don't play pasture courses and expect groomed fairways..blind approach shots were common back in the day..pasture courses require finesse and creativity..so just enjoy playing golf like they did in 1899
