Craving Ramen, I was excited to find Iso Iso has a Vegetarian option! I baught the Vegetarian Ramen bowl and added an egg. The bowl came with the broth at the bottom of the bowl and everything else at the top in a strainer. At first I thought there was no way this would be enough food for the price. Last time we had the wrong noodles, so we made sure we specified which noodles we wanted. We ordered our normal beer, Asahi beer but they were out. The waiter, very nice guy suggested a different kind, it was okay. We started with the Karrage chicken, it was good. We also ordered the edamame, which was the best edamame we have had. I had the tonkatsu ramen and they only give you half an egg, I've never heard of that, so I ordered an extra egg. My friend ordered the shoyu ramen and changed the meat to the ground pork, she also ordered an extra egg because we are not accustomed to just a half of egg. My friends and I planned to grab dinner and try iso iso before a comedy show at 8:45pm, thinking 7pm dinner would be sufficient amount of time to leave and grab our tickets by 8:15pm. I fail to understand how it took until 8pm for the food to still not be ready. This is ramen and the restaurant was not busy. We didn't take an unusually long amount of time to order and appetizers were cold by the time we had to ask for the actual ramen to go. There was a mistake on one of the orders for an addition that none of us asked for and that added to the delay of just getting the food to go. After we finally could sit down to just eat the food after getting our food, there were no utensils, none, in our to go bags. The food was good. Came here with two friends on a Saturday for an early dinner around 4 PM. The place wasn't crowded or noisy, which made for great conversation. The service was excellent. Our waiter, dressed like a character from Jujutsu Kaisen, checked in on us multiple times without being intrusive. I ordered the Iso Iso Ramen with braised beef instead of ground beef. I appreciated the option to customize the protein with any ramen choice. The ramen was spicy and delicious. I ordered the Brown Sugar Pearl Milk Tea. It was just okay for me; it felt more like a dessert than a drink to accompany my meal, so I saved it for later. Note: They no longer offer sushi, even though it's still listed on the menu. I love the interior - very bright and open. I met one of my daughters here for a quick meal before a play at NCSU Theatre on a random Thursday evening in February. She had picked this place because they have sushi (to accommodate my carnivorous habit!) and ramen because she loves it and there are great veggie options. Imagine my surprise when I ordered the two rolls I had picked out from their online menu and am told the sushi chef is not working tonight. I told the hostess she should have led with that, when I walked in and asked for a table. ("Hello. We have a full ramen menu but the other side of our menu- sushi, sashimi, and poke - is not available.") I wanted to leave and go elsewhere, but didn't want to embarrass my dining partner. I ordered a beef ramen and pushed down my disappointment that I'd not be having a rainbow roll and a Philly roll. The ramen was fine (I've never had it before, other than the instant ramen I lived on in college), but I really wanted sushi. There's a lot of stuff in the bowl beside the noodles, but no rice or raw fish. (Sigh) We shared a bowl of edamame, which we couldn't finish. It had a nice coating of salt and chili seasoning (a la Tajin). We'll probably visit again, and maybe they will actually have the full menu available, but I'll be sure to call first. Ramen is a poor substitute for sushi. A few other things that gave me pause: it's 2024, but there is no public wifi, despite two routers with the company name available. The staff suggested I connect to the coffee shop next door. Translation: "We don't care enough to serve you wifi like every other modern restaurant, but you can steal it from our neighbors who do offer this expected service to their guests." When we arrived, there was a setup at each place with a single, thin paper napkin. The server was quick to bring more when asked, but really? You're serving soup. This was my first experience having Ramen so admittedly I don't have much to compare it to, but this place is pretty good! It's a very cute and quaint little spot in Cameron Village in Raleigh. I went with a group of friends on a Monday evening and they easily accommodated the 5 of us. My friend ordered their version of an espresso martini and she loved it. I ordered a Japanese style beer and it was good. I'd love to check out some of their other cocktails. We all ordered a version of Ramen, I got the Iso Iso Ramen with shredded beef (a welcomed recommendation of our lovely waitress to cut some of the spice, I was so grateful!) it was super spicy but really good. The broth was extremely flavorful and the noodles were great. All in all this was a good first experience having ramen and I'd definitely try it again. We arrived well before the listed closing time--only to be told that the kitchen closes and they stop seating 30 minutes before what's listed online. What made it more frustrating is that this important detail wasn't mentioned anywhere on their website. It felt like a huge inconvenience, especially after making the drive and planning our evening around it. I understand kitchens need time to close down, but not sharing that info online or on Google is just poor communication. Really disappointing. I've been wanting to try this place when they announced their opening. I finally found the time to do so. First thing first, parking close to this establishment is a little tricky. You'll have to park at the Chase Bank lot or at the village itself. If you park at the village it will be a short hike. Recommend parking by Chase when the bank is closed. Less of a walk. Now let's talk about the restaurant itself. The decor is pleasant and the dining area is wide open. The bar is situated at the back wall facing the entrance. The hostess seated us promptly and we were given a nice booth to dine in. Good thing the place was not packed. It was lively but not jam-packed. I guess the lunch crowd has dwindled by the time we visited (around 1:30 pm). We ordered appetizers karaage and Takoyaki. These were really good! Better than the ones I had at Maruya in Little Tokyo in downtown LA. The tea with lychee was refreshing and not cloyingly sweet. I'm giving the appetizers and drinks an A-. My wife wasn't too peckish so she just ordered the California roll and I ordered their tonkotsu ramen. The California was a B. The ramen was also a B. The ramen was good but it wasn't as good as Daikokuya, also in Little Tokyo. Given that I live here now, I'm okay with settling. Overall the restaurant rates a solid 4 stars. Parking is not the best so you have to find it where you can. Upon arriving the restaurant is beautifully decorated and open concept dining. I like a medium spice, and this was actually a little less than that. The broth was so good I wanted to sip on it all day, and the straight noodles held up well, never becoming soft. The service was friendly, and it was obvious everyone was proud of this new, modern restaurant on the edge of The Village District. The place settings were beautiful, and I was embarrassed to tell them that I can't use chopsticks. Our server smiled, told me I wasn't the only one, and graciously brought me a fork for the noodles. Prices were average for ramen in the Triangle. The only downside is the lack of parking. The space is beautiful with a minimal but trending look. Everything was available on the menu other than the rice bowls tempura appetizers. I went with the recommended "Iso Iso Ramen". If you enjoy a light broth, you're going to like this one. The spice was perfect, broth was tasty, and noodles were really good! Super quality noodles in my opinion. Once we got our ramen I was a little disappointed with how it turned out. The toppings were so few in count that I can't really say much about them. We both got 1 singular strand of bok-choy and a pinch of bamboo. I will say that the meat in the tonkatsu was good, but everything else was subpar. The broth for the tonkatsu was solid, but the iso iso ramen broth was way too spicy and too strong to the point where you couldn't taste anything else in the broth. The noodles were also mushy and didn't have any bounce to them. Didn't order any of the appetizers or drinks but by the time we were sat down they were out of many of the options already, so if you want to order them you might need to be their earlier than 7pm. read more

Iso iso is a beautiful restaurant -- the decor is phenomenal and the location is great as well. Parking can be tricky, but we found more than enough spots in Cameron village and just walked up to the restaurant. It felt like the restaurant was a little understaffed and, unfortunately, that affected our experience. After sitting down, we waited 30 minutes just to receive water and get our order taken. The food came out about 15-20 minutes after ordering, so that part wasn't too bad. My first impression of my ramen was that the broth looked great, but I was underwhelmed by the amount of toppings. The noodles were not chewy at all; they tasted over cooked and very soft. The broth was also just ok -- the tonkotsu was underwhelming compared to other ramen we have had in the area. The flavor felt washed out and not as savory as we've had in the past. The iso iso was tastier, but was honestly too spicy to even taste the broth. The spice level it was supposed to be (two peppers) was not well reflected in the broth. The egg and meat, however, were both delicious and probably my favorite part of the ramen. They are a locally owned business and would love to continue supporting them, so will come back another day to try a rice bowl and hopefully have a better experience. read more
